The cat really tied the whole thing together
Every garage needs an adorable shop cat.
Tom needs to pay that cat in treats.
As long as Tom Tom has the cat's approval, that cart should be just fine.
Good luck with going out on your own Tom Tom! I’ll be watching you along the way. MORR won’t be the same without you.
I’m pretty sure he still works for morr
@@iridium8341 Everyone who thinks they might want to work for themselves instead of for someone else should try to make that happen. It's one of the hardest, but also one of the best, things I've ever done.
@@RockwellsWildLife just seen that now
Thanks, I appreciate your support!!! I'm sure MORR will continue to do great.
Tom Tom, are you working on branding? cant wait to see what you come up with. You will have to have your own mechanic style shirt too. Cant wait. Try to bring Lizzy in for one project, would be so fun to see a welding project.
You were the voice of reason there. They are going to miss you.
Be nice to see the other reasonable people team up. Can certainly see a pattern with MORR. Plus, it's gone way off the rails with all the events and celebrity status stuff, plus crazy amounts of sponsorship pushes for entire episodes from places giving them free stuff... That always rubbed me the wrong way, when all anyone ever wanted was to watch recovery rides and builds.
Icky.
Put a drawer under your cart top. I did that for a similar rolling workbench and I keep measuring and marking things in there. I store pencils, pens, rulers, tape measure, a note pad, etc. in the drawer. Before I did that, I never had a pencil handy when I needed it. Now, it's right where I'm working.
Yeah, and a lower heavy metal shelf for parts that you're removing from the vehicle you're working on, or heavier tools.
A pencil drawer on a desk. Great idea.
@@fridaynightgamefilm The lower part will need to be braced from end to end so there's not so much leverage to loosen the legs, so that shelf will do both.
@@delandbrooks3291definitely would help make it more ridged. Maybe even some cross from bottom right to top left or the other way... or both, will just limit access a little bit on that side.
@@jaynecobb3701 Yes, I'm a great innovator.
I appreciate the snarkiness but it is a work bench in a garage, not a desk in an office. And it doesn't have one.
Tom Tom , is such a brilliant presenter, really looking forward to see the growth of His RUclips channel.
I like how Tom thinks. Has his engineering background and uses common sense with it.
@@ken85225if you know many engineers, you realize how rare that is !!!!
The quick pace is just right, your actions are very well explained and you get a lot accomplished. Your craftsmanship is excellent. I sure look forward to upcoming episodes. Thanks for terrific viewing.
I love how you kidnapped the neighbor's cat at the end. We will need more appearances of Maverick in the future.
Nerd Cave.... that's a title I would be proud of! Fine work Sir!
I think Matt should have given you Sally as a leaving gift.
Congratulations Tom. You are a great craftsman and will do well.
I think the drill at Matt’s should have been your going away present , good luck Tom. I’ll be watching
It really made it final today when Matt came to your shop and promoted your channel. Happy for you Tom! Will be here watching and rooting for you!!
Yes excited to see what you bring to the table and what all you do with your channel hope to keep seeing you on Matt's off-road
We will miss you on MORR but will be watching you here!
I agree with those saying "use the car lift!" Shop looks great.
I will miss you on MORR, but wish you every success as you branch out on your own.
Agree. Tom Tom and Jefe are my fav's
YOU HAVE A LIFT RIGHT THERE!
i kept telling him that through the screen but he wasn't listening...
I wanted to but there was just no good way to do it. The lift only goes 6 feet that and that wasn't enough.
Haha Tom knowing full well that the shot of him trying to figure out how to lift, standing in front of the lift will generate comments and engagement to help the algorithm is the most youtubey thing. It’s like Matt saying “what’s the lower 48?” To generate engagement on the channel. Smart move Tom.
Gliders for your moving your things around is a godsend because my ears are in pain.
You need to build yourself a rolling gantry crane at some point. A bridge crane would be nice too, but that’s a bit much… or is it…
FYI...Your best video! Keep them rolling. Your family is great! Cheers
Embrace it. Get a neon sign that say “Nerd Cave”
Nice to see you running your own channel Can't wait to see your builds
You have challenger lift right behind you Tom Tom
I wanted to use it but there was just no good way to do it. The lift only goes 6 feet that and that wasn't enough.
@@tomtomsshop well that sucks. Looks like it would have worked. You did a good job especially by your self!
Good luck buddy, working for yourself is the only way.
"Bau" is German for building or construction and "Buche" is German for beech. So BauBuche literally means construction beech.
It's made by the German manufacturer Pollmeier.
That makes perfect sense. Thanks for the explanation!
exactly…i build my kitchen counters with baubuche
and it's pronounced like (ship's) bow and boo-ch-eh (the ch is closest to the English sh, and the eh is like the final eh sound in Spanish 7 siete)
Used to polish the floors in my room in the barracks in the Army, with Johnson's paste wax.
Those are nice boxes! I'm looking forward to future projects. You're living the life that many of us can't!
Best of luck with the new endeavour. Love that your family joined you in the video. They aren’t 100% used to the camera yet and that is genuine and lovely. Real people who care for you and are happy to help ❤
Looks great. On the first coat with the Danish oil . Pour onto wood and spread around every fifteen minutes as it soaks in. After 30 minutes wipe so no puddles are left. Use a small rag to apply and store the rag in a Ziplock with no air in between coats. When done with rag, dry it out flat so there is no spontaneous combustion. Former painter who used a lot of Watco.
Glad you're starting your own channel. Now between you, Matt, Robby, and Paul, i have even more content!
And Rory. Almost too much😅
Rudy , Trevor MisAdventer lab and Ben (fab rats) all have channels.
You are going to be busy.
Matt is gonna miss your expertise in the MORR shop! I'm gonna really enjoy your channel! Can't wait to watch you tackle projects.
Hello Tom!! I'm in Switzerland and I've been watching the adventures of Matt, Rory, Paul, and all the family and friends for years. And now, Tom's adventures and new life.
I wish you lots of success and above all, continue to make me dream!!
Tom we are here for you man.
Thanks, it always blows me away how awesome and supportive people are!
Those big Red tool chests are awesome.. the more Shelving/Loft
Space the better..
you can put the top section on big ice cube, remove the strap and wait for the ice to melt.
I suffer from Flat Surface Syndrome so badly. Exciting to see the things you'll get up to and your aporoach to projects on this channel.
Congratulations! Your personality is great, humorous and entertaining for your own show! I know it's going to be awesome!
I loved what you said about “ I could buy a cart but I would rather be surrounded by things made by my hands… etc” well said. I have had to explain that exact thing many times.
Angela is a big help with the labels! Nice touch
Gotta love Harbor Freight. I'm a mechanic, and my wife is a store manager for them.
Not when you re-engine a lawnmower with a Predator piece of crap that when spring comes and it starts clanging like a bell (Yes there is oil) ten minutes into the first use. This is almost 30 days out of warranty. Cheap Chinese crap.
@sittinandthinkin sorry to hear. I never had that experience. In fact, quite the opposite.
@@sittinandthinkin Just like my Briggs engine. lol
Nuclear Scientist goes Mechanical ! Cool, Wishing you every success in the new endeavor.
You were great on Matt’s videos and an essential part of the team. I look forward to watching DigDug get back out into the mountains with your new mods on it. I also can’t wait for you to get to work on the
jeep. Good luck to you and the family.
Tom it's good to see your Growth.
Congratulations on the Channel!
Could try a satin finish marathon on the cart. Will seal it well without getting shiny
Kind of expected you to get the torque wrench out for those bench bolts 😁
loving the new tool stack, black and red looks nice, but that table / cart you just built, now thats something else, i honestly love that, thanks for sharing Tom
Congrats on your channel Tom, looking forward to watching the upcoming episodes. You are an excellent presenter!
Looks like you’re almost ready for a little steel rack too
That is the worlds best work bench Tom Tom,looking fwd to seeing more of your creativity.👍
its called cross laminated timber or CLT - its a really good building material - 2/3rds the strength of steel - you can build tower blocks from it
No this is not cross laminated timber (CLT), that's something entirely different. Unlike CLT, BauBuche is not made of softwood timber, but instead laminated hardwood (beech) veneer.
It's much closer to the different types of plywood in construction as they are all made of veneer unlike CLT which is made of timber. However, in BauBuche panels the veneer layers are perpendicular to the panel surface which is the opposite direction of both plywood and CLT.
Tom, you’ve always been the voice of reason at Matt’s Off Road! I will definitely miss you at Matt’s but look forward to your videos and watching your channel grow!
God bless You and your family Tom, want nothing but the best for you sir!
A cart without a lip? Let me sing you the CLANG of my people. Also, a tip I've always been in favor of on the double-decker tool cabinets... shove a 2x4 or 2x6 between the upper and lowers (or build a C-frame with only the front open). It's a minimal increase in height, but it gives you a place to set things down at waist-height whenever you just need to. Which, is almost all the time. I also use it to store lunch trays with smaller projects on them, 2 or 3 wide, when I toggle between projects and need to clear off the big shop table. Oh, and the sides of the cabinets are great places to hang long things. It's not about volume, it's about accessible surface area.
Congratulations Tom on your new channel. Look forward to future episodes.👌
Tom Tom you’re awesome, I look forward to seeing your future projects.
After the coats of Oil you might want to coat it with Johnson's Wax too!
Tom toms shop !!!! Love it! Love you tom! I came over from Matt's off road recovery. I've been watching and likening your brilliant engineering!!!! Keep it up tom tom!!!!
Congrats on going full time
If You would add lower shelf then it will just turn into catch all I think, but hangers for PPE would be great.
I love that you have Angela & Co. appearing with you and that you introduce them to us - many vlogs just have characters lurking aound and we never know who they are...
This is a lovely channel.
I would have used the challengeer lift to lift that box. But it looks like it might not have lifted it high enough? Ahh that Johnson wax! Better hold on to that! Its not available anymore. I have about 3 cans left. I keep in a safe place!
Add a shelf to stiffen the legs on the work cart
Congrats on going out on your own! Wishing you all the best! I'm hoping to see the FSJ you worked on; I saw it when Matt was in your new shop. SUBSCRIBERS/VIEWERS : Help Tom Tom out by watching the ads in addition to hitting the 👍 button. And Subscribe if you havent already.
I know that feeling of having a shop that is to small. I have a 40x50 with 14 foot tall walls when I built it I thought I would never need more space than that. Now it's a huge mess with no room for anything (if you watch any of my videos you'll see) but hopefully this year I can work on getting the walls insulation done and sheeted then shelfs
I’m building a shop / hanger, 40’ long by 33’ wide, I used two 40’ shipping containers and had a pole barn built between them with a 13’ height for my ultra-light aircraft, I bought a 20’ container for the rear so I have a tool shop. Let the fun began
Yep, making your own things is so rewarding. Any imperfections just puts your own signature on it. Looking forward to you moving forward!
Sorry to see you leave Matt's recovery....but understandable you have your own garage now .....looking forward to your projects
No he has not left Matt's !
@@charliee7142seen tons of people saying he was leaving did I miss something?I thought he was just setting up his home shop. hell Tom is the main reason I'm still watching morr
Yes Matt's video today said he was leaving to work in his garage ...even Tom Tom said it ... Tom Tom said he would still stop by time to time ...but he would be doing projects out of his garage ... WATCH THE VIDEO
These days nerd is a good thing. It’s cool to be a nerd. Thanks for the video.
Moving that drill press was hard to watch since it wasn't named "SALLY"! Love the vids TOM TOM!
Great to see you working on your own Channel. Love the way you explain your thought process and show it as you do the project. It gives you a sort of tutorial. Keep it up.
Love that table and the tool chest you be ready to rock😊
I didn’t notice anything on the table to stop the legs from folding in or out lengthwise. If you have something very heavy on the table and are rolling it, something under a wheel may cause a sudden stop. Under heavy load, that may cause issues. Maybe weld a 4” L on the 4 corners.
You'll do just fine on your own, Tom Tom. I wish you the best of luck in your endeavors.
Here's a great trick for very tough timber workbench tops. Get an industrial-sized (8 or 12 oz) bottle of ACC (super glue), get the thinnest one, it usually comes in thin, thick and gel. Use a disposable body filler scraper to spread it over the bare sanded surface of the wood (aim for a thin, glossy coat when wet) and allow to soak in and cure. The surface can then be sanded to an incredibly tough satin finish that will also help protect the wood from cuts and dents.
If you use more ACC and leave a coating on the timber like a varnish or clear coat as opposed to a "in the timber" oiled type finish yuu want for a workbench you can fine sand and polish it to a rock hard deep gloss.
I’ve been thinking this shop was in need of some organization. Well done.
Need some more racks along that fabrication wall. Storage over the tools/machines. Use the Z axis.
Good ideas. I'd love to build a mezzanine to add storage space.
You could also use a copule of coats of the Johnson wax on the top of your wooden cart you put together. It would help protect it from oil and grease. It might add just a little shine but not too much also if you got glue or adhesive on it from some project it would help make it easier to remove the excess glue. Regular wood type glue would just pop off with a light scrapper and epoxy type glues would also be easier to remove from the top.
"BauBuche" is an engineered wood product by the German company Pollmeier. They build it only a good 100 miles from where I live! So cool to see it in your shop! The name roughly translates to "contruction beech", since that is exactly what they invented it for. Its got some pretty neat technical properties that make it great for anything that has to be elegant yet super strong.
I think building your own stuff is awesome. We have some cubbords and stools in our house that I built myself and it just feels great to have em here!
Sorry to see you go, but here to support you and the growth of the channel. Still love Matt's ORR, and will continue to support both. 2 channels, woohoo!!
Good Luck Tom, You should build a Loft in the back for more storage!!!
interested to see where this channel goes. will miss you on MORR. you, lindsay and trevor are great folks that i just wish were still there.
Tom, to achieve a more even finish on your wood, I recommend using Minwax Wood Conditioner before staining. Simply apply the conditioner, allow it to dry thoroughly, and then proceed with your stain application. This method should help prevent blotchiness. As someone who professionally stains Pella windows on a daily basis, I can attest to the effectiveness of this product.
Glad u gonna be taking more time for urself and channel i hope it grows like wild flowers
That table looks awesome Tom
Love it, you put labels on your tool chest drawers, like you labeled Matt's. Good luck with striking out on your own, glad you'll be around, hopefully more than Lizzie is able to come visit. And you'll be streaming here! 👍
Tom, my wife's name is Angela as well. In my garage, she went out one afternoon and labeled the drawers on my tool chest. Lol. I found that funny.
I am looking forward to this channel and seeing what you do.
Not sure if you have merch yet, but let us know when you do. Would love a hat and shirt.
Thanks, to you and your Angela! I'm working on merch and will definitely let you no.
Tom, I love seeing a clean and organized shop, not a chaotic messy shop.
Yes we all get busy, but we also need to put things away where they belong and throw out the trash!
I look forward to seeing your shop all cleaned up to your future videos.
You're a cool dude Tom have fun with your new channel I'm on board
We love our Harbor Freight tool chest so much we keep it right outside the kitchen
Love your skills and attention to details.
Best wishes going full time.
Excited to see what's coming!
Looking forward to what you do TomTom
I'm glad I found your channel Tom. I've always enjoyed your contributions on Matt's content. You've made his projects turn out far better than they would have without you. OH, I have three solid tool carts like that on wheels ... all stacked up with stuff and shoved into the corners. NEVER USEABLE. Don't be a me
In case you are interested:
The guards in Britain are called Beef Eaters.
You could have used the car lift and some straps to lift the top part of the tool chest.
If you have any epoxy that is having trouble setting, use heat to cure it. The two chemicals combined in epoxies are used to produce heat, and the heat is what cures the epoxy. An Infrared heat lamp is ideal, but other heat sources will work also.
Wish you well. Always fun to take on new challenges.
THANKS FOR THE VIDEO
