Its so funny when you mentioned the noises older people make getting in and out of a chair....I heard Sophia Loren years ago said after watching her mother and grandmother do that .. she decided she never would. Ever since then I have been mindful I would never do that either. So at 71 , even when I am alone, I never grunt when getting up or down!!! it really is a decision. Also I am like your MIL in that every morning I put on earrings and lipstick ... and I live alone ... so its for me. If I happen to see someone then I feel good that I made the effort . Also in my head I think I am 35..... I really don;t care what the numbers say!!!!

I so agree with you, I was in a Bible study probably 10 years ago and there was a beautiful woman she was in her early 80s always dressed to the hilt always so sweet always happy and I ask her her secret, she said never gray hair she always had her hair done, she get up in the morning she get dressed she put her lipstick on she put her makeup on and she put her jewelry on, just like she was going out and it made the day for her number one for tonight, and she always looked on the bright side of everything, and I really try to do that I have a little problem with my posture I’m working on that I went to modeling school years and years and years ago and they taught us that my mother taught me stand up straight I have a terrible time with that and I’m working on it.

I went for a dental cleaning earlier this week at 7am. When the dentist came in he said “my god you look smashing”! I laughed and said “gotta make an effort even this early in the morning”. It was such a lift for my mood. I was just wearing a necklace and earrings and simple all black clothes. Felt so nice to be noticed at 67.

I have become such a fan and this video made me aware that it wasn’t the gardening, which is lovely, it is the magnetism and positivity you exude. The smile draws one in and your sense of interest in everything around you makes one want to hear what you have to say. I also realized that the qualities I adored in my mother are those same ones you exemplify. My mother always took an interest in her appearance and abhorred people her age who gave up and dressed like their days were done. She wore makeup and colored her hair until her last breath at 86. She learned to use a computer in her late seventies to be able to communicate with her granddaughters when they went away to college. She was so proud of emailing and messaging them and they could never get enough of her. Such a legacy. I have found lately that I don’t have patience or time for the constant complainers and downers. I want my daughters and grandchildren to remember me as fun and with it. Just do not want to spend life frowning and moaning. Thank you for the great insights and for reading your fans comments. You seem to have the gift of making every person feel as if you are so glad they are interacting with you. Wish you continued success and joy.

A few things I focus on in my life at 63.........Mindset is everything. Whether you think you can or you think you can't, you're probably right. Make it a regular practice to find the positive, no matter how small, in every situation. (Don't throw out the donut just because there's a hole) Stop waiting for "some day", use the good lotion today. Surround yourself with people who aren't like you in age, perspective, interests, etc. It's always a great idea to stretch your capacity and learn to appreciate a new way of seeing life.

My grandmother once told me when I asked her about her arthritic fingers (she was a seamstress and an artist), "On honey, no one wants to hear about an old lady's aces and pains." It marked my life and has helped me live my life the same way. This was such a good topic. Your pants are everything.

This was such a rich, and dense with insights video and resonated on so many levels. I think it becomes more important as you age to focus on the positive. I recently read about someone asking an older neighbor who was in a wheelchair if they felt trapped. He replied that on the contrary, the wheelchair gave him freedom. It is so much about how you frame your reality. Thank you for such great tips; this one will keep me thinking all week.

Linda, I am inspired by your enthusiasm and energy. I am 74 and do not feel I look or act my age; that I appear younger. I too garden and enjoy the fruits of my labour. I was told some years ago not to hang onto the bars of the treadmill at the gym but rather stand tall and walk. In other words, do not position yourself to prepare for a walker! I have always remembered that and do try to stand tall.

I agree with the “old person expressions “. I hear it from my husband and myself too many times. It’s the very thing that used to bother me about my parents. They could always pick something critical or negative to say even while looking at something beautiful. I’ve found that we are quickly “turning into our parents” at a much younger age. It also brings others down when all we do is complain or whine. I’m going to share this with my husband and really try to quit doing this. Thanks for being bold enough to broach this subject.

Linda, I can relate to everything you've talked about. I am MANY years older than you, but I refuse to be "old". I'm so grateful every day that I have my health and am able to do most things I want to. I think being grateful is so important. I laughed about making grunting and groaning sounds because even though I don't do that around home, I find myself doing that when getting out of a car after a few hours of travel. Thank you for your videos as I am a fellow flower garden, and even though I'm no where close to your level,

Such great wisdom Linda on how to remain young. Youth isn’t an age, it’s a mindset. 😁 Another “Stay Young” item I’m working on is retaining the ability to sit on the floor and get up again without using something to pull myself up. Keeping tone is a must! Thanks for all your wisdom!

Linda, I recently discovered your channel based on gardening searches. I am pleasantly surprised to find lifestyle videos like these, your house decor videos are the best because it's not another white box with a white kitchen and white furniture everywhere. It is so refreshing to see a house with characters and with a lived-in vibe. I don't know if you have a script to read from but your delivery is very fluid and these videos are so well made/edited. Thanks for providing interesting and real content for us all to enjoy and learn from! I will subscribe and look forward to future videos.

OMG Linda your mother story made my day! I lost my mother last September at 95. She was always always concerned with her appearance until she passed!

Brilliant Linda, everything you mentioned was spot on. I loved the” old poopy curmudgeon “ expression. We all know someone like that! ☺️ The person I admired most was my grandmother who was 95 when she passed away. She was very interested in and knew about current affairs and would always ask us our opinions on what was going on at the time. She also was very big on first impressions and putting your best self out there. Great advice Linda, thank you!🇨🇦

All of your tips are actions my mother preached most of my life. There is one very special gesture I remember about my mom. My dad came home from work everyday at 4:00, and at 3:45 everyday my mom would go to a mirror in our front hall and brush her hair and put on lipstick. Wanted to look special when her man came home from a hard days work. Also, my mom was always looking up words in the dictionary.
This video offered a wealth of very good life tips!

I was so fortunate to have parents and grandparents who never ever complained. And when as a teenager, I thought of trying complaining because some friends did, and I heard plenty about it and I quit doing it. On the other hand at 70, once again I have friends who are monsters and growers and I really find myself checking out on their whole conversation. I really dislike hearing "you'll feel the same way when you get older" my response is really, because we are the same age. That ends the conversation. All of these things strike home with a group of people, and I never thought about why until you mentioned parents. I am absolutely certain that my boys will never behave in that way, so thank you. I'm giving myself a good mom pat in the back. One last tip is turn off your TV and read a book

Thank you so much for this video reminder. Everything you had to say was on point and helpful. Regarding the complaining, grunting, whining, that one really hit home with me. I am so grateful you brought this up. I have found myself talking about my age as if I'm "old", grunting & complaining because on most days I hurt when I move. My joints are achy & I'm out of shape. I need to see myself differently and quit talking about how "old" I feel. While I'm told often that I do look younger than my years, my attitude and how I talk about myself adds those years back on. I need to stop the negative talk! Thank you for encouraging and inspiring us to put our best selves forward. I hope you'll share more of this kind of wisdom with us.

I had to watch this twice because there were so many points you made that hit home for me and what had been swirling in my head for a long time. I've been articulating many of the same points to my husband who seems to be having a hard time accepting aging. I retired in 2018 and late last year I decided to find a part-time job (3days per week) to keep my mind sharp and get in more exercise. It's the best thing I'd ever done! I am learning to work with apps on phones, engaging with my peers and co-workers who could be my grand-children had I given birth at 20, walking an average of one mile per hour, light weight lifting....on and on. No stress for me whatsoever and I even received a "Rockstar" recognition last month at work. You are right about being involved with people of all ages; the interactions really do keep your mind open. Thank you for sharing some of your life philosophies in between gardening. I really enjoyed the vlog.

I love jewelry and accessorizing. I like to get my haircut every 5-6 weeks. I try to stay up on trends and styles without looking like a teenager. I believe attitude and gratitude are two of the best characteristics to staying young! My hubby and I rode on a party bus for our 16 yr old granddaughter. Absolutely the same as when I met David Niven, I was in my early 20 s he was strikingly put together and exceedingly polite and gracious and moved like a much younger man and his posture as he walked was as if he were in a film. He proffered his arm to me as I was walking on cobbles of a london road, he walked me all the way back to work, we had a good natter and he doffed his hat to me when we arrived 😊😊😊

This is one of your better shows! Especially the Curmudgeon story! I knew a woman who had a heart of gold, but she was known for saying "It's so hard" about Everything! As sweet as she was, she could be unbearable.
The opposite was a Garden Club friend. Even in her mid 90's she worked in her garden every day. I really think it kept her young. Another woman I knew loved ballroom dancing. She danced all the way to her death at 107! And she always looked elegant! What an inspiration for this 68 year young chick!

I do enjoy your videos... it’s cold in Arkansas and windy today... we get similar weather to y’all.. I have a dear friend who lives in Oklahoma City.. I am 73 and proud of it... and I have found that having friends who are younger, helps keep me younger... also I loved what you said about not complaining... several years ago I took a bad fall.. I have been a professional guitar player for 50 years, actually I turned pro when I was 16... I talked guitar for 45 years. And I am retired from teaching now.. back to the fall... I messed up my shoulder and holding my instrument and standing with the strap over my sore shoulder became more and more problematic... so after realizing complaining wasn’t going to help, I decided to sit in a chair use a guitar stool for my left foot.. get proper classical positioning, yes posture is important. Anyway I now play in one of my favorite clubs every Tuesday night and I sit, problem solved! The important thing is if there’s a will there’s a way... doing what you love keeps you young.. and yes things have been difficult over the last couple years for musicians... where are play everyone must have a vaccination to walk through the door.. Face masks and social distancing are used.. but we must do the things we love to do it.. that will always keep us young... again I love your videos please keep it up... I am learning from you... yes at 73 years old I have decided that I should do new things all the time and one of those things for me is taking up gardening🍀☘️🌼🌸🌻🌹🌷🌿🌱💚

You should be a motivational speaker….this entire video reminded me of people I either know of or have known along the way….and I agree….nothing worse ever than a Debbie downer!!!! I steer clear at all costs!!! And so does everyone else!!! Haha….Linda, how you view the world and embrace it is so refreshing!!! Your life stories are simply the best….I laughed at the things you mentioned about the moaning and groaning while some of us are getting up and down….my mouth will be zipped tighter than a glued down drum from this day forward!!!! 😂 This was great….👏🏻

I totally agree with your comments about moaning and groaning. My husband is the worst, and since I retired and have been home and around him more, I am starting to do that too. I hate it! I do not remember my parents doing that at all. I am trying to work on not doing that, but it is a habit that has already set in pretty hard. Suffice it to say, it is going to be hard to overcome!

Being a "questioner," the trait of curiosity, is our greatest asset. 1:Stand up tall and your confidence will improve in addition to your health. Some of your book recommendations have changed my life, and that's a great tip: nurture the skill of reading. If you don't enjoy it, find a coach through your local library - at any age. Once you read well you can teach yourself anything. Learn to appreciate poetry. 2: Dress for your self respect. I've built a wardrobe of "public pajamas," elegant comfortable clothes. I usually live in jeans and a tee shirt - easily dressed up with a colorful scarf, or a blazer and a brooch. 3: And worry is also a debilitating habit - it negates prayer. Start your morning listing 8 things you're grateful for. KEEP CHANGING. Thank you, Linda; you are a treasure.

I think it is also in respect of those you meet or are at the same place as to look as good as you can for the occasion. At my eldest sons wedding one of our relative came in old shabby sneakers and Jeans. I felt so bad for my son and his newly wife to be treated that way. So of respect for both you and everyone around dress and behave the best you know and can. That’s my philosophy.

I can't see you ever being a complainer except maybe where the weather is concerned. With your tip #4, I had a neighbor when I was goring up, and, I still haven't grown up yet, and will be 65 next month, who always said if You don't learn something new everyday you are dead. And was he correct, I guess so, as he lived to be 104 years old. I remember one day he came over to our house and was telling my mom about this great thing he discovered, Hamburger Helper, my mom opened up the cabinet and we had about 5 boxes of Hamburger Helper in there. He was devastated, but he was still enthusiastic, nonetheless. I try not to make noises when I get up from a chair but my 3 year old puppy dog, Sandy does instead. Keep up the good work and I can't wait for spring and more inspiration from. you and Stewart.
