    Love your no nonsense tell it like it is review Paul. One reason why I follow you. Too many people over analyze certain things which results in a less desired cooking experience. It’s not rocket science but some can’t help it. Glad your liking and keep on smokin’🥩🥩🥩🥩🥩🥩🍺

    Thank-you for such a honest review. I am looking to buy one of these smokers. The part that hit me is when you said you used about 2000 lbs of pellets in 2 years of use. Here in Canada the bags go for 43$ tx in for 40 lbs which 2000 lbs comes to 50 bags at 43$= 2,150$ ! Wow much more expensive to use than I thought! Thanks again your great review!

    • @paulsq_
      @paulsq_  3 года назад

      Thank you Jean! You can buy pellets cheaper then that depending on where you buy the pellets. I’m in Ontario and I buy mostly at Walmart. The Pit Boss competition blend is what I normally buy is $33 and change tax in for a 40lbs bag. I’ve recently bought a 30lbs bag of Traeger pellets at Costco for $29 and change taxes in just to give you an idea. You probably won’t burn through as many pellets as I do unless you’re planning on using the grill almost everyday.

    • @paulsq_
      @paulsq_  4 года назад

      Hey Joshua, you are 100% correct about that. This grill is the ultimate replacement for a low end propane grill. The cost of pellets might be the same or cheaper then propane depending on one’s location

      Paul’s Q ya haven’t done a 10-12hr smoke on it but pellet usage seems to be quite low. Still on the first hopper fill with about half a hopper left

    • @paulsq_
      @paulsq_  4 года назад +1

      You’ll be impressed when you do a long low and slow how great they are on file consumption. I believe I show the pellets throughout my one brisket video if not I do remember it only used about 3/4 of the hopper that was full. Here’s the link to that video. The brisket itself was not the best one I’ve ever cooked but it was also my first brisket ever on this grill

    I have a cuisinart vertical propane smoler that I like but this last Winter here in TN it was hard to find refill tanks and theyre $25US a pop. Since I use the tanks for my smoker, grill, patio heater and patio fire pit im thinking of going with a pellet smoker.
    In the long run not having to worry about runnin outta propane or changing the woodchips seems nice.. im getting lazier with smoking the older I get.
    I used to use a charcoal offset then went to the vertical propane and not looking at this pitboss 700. Seems to be a solid smoker and with it being Spring and Summer time coming up i may get it soon. Thanks for the video

    Love the videos! Been dabbling in BBQ sence I was 12 what 23 years ago now lol. Grew up on the classic 1980's kettle grill with my dad. Branched off sence, from gas to stick/kamado and barrel cookers and all the inbetweens. Now that I'm a father and have a family I think the pellet grills are a good in between. As the family doesn't like heavy smoke like I do. I'm sold! Thanks again

    I like the ease of my gas grill to just flip it on, and add a couple hot dogs, burgers, or bbq chicken breasts, but I also have an upright smoker for ribs, pork butts, etc. I'm looking to consolidate to 1 unit to save space on my deck. Can you do quick meals like hot dogs, and burgers on the pellet smokers? I guess I don't see why not, just don't see many people using them that way.

    • @paulsq_
      @paulsq_  4 года назад +1

      Hey Derek, I use my grill for this all the time. I just don’t make videos on it. You could totally replace both your gas grill and vertical smoker with a pellet grill if you were to decide to. Just keep in mind you probably won’t get the same smoke flavor off a pellet grill that you get from your vertical now. Other then that I recommend this grill as it’s fast and easy to use for burgers, hot dogs, chicken etc.

    I've been looking to get one of these, quick question. How often do you use the sear feature? And when you do, is there a way to sear with the aluminium foil? I'm trying to figure out how to use the sear feature and use aluminium foil for easy cleaning. But haven't come up with any ideas since I don't have one of these yet. Thanks for the video.

    • @SGB_72
      @SGB_72 4 года назад +1

      fredo19 it would be difficult to use the sear function with foil. You have to actually slide it open and the flames come through slits in the plate. I don’t use that function often. To be honest, to me it’s more of a hassle to use then anything. When I want steaks on the grill, I normally turn to my trusty Webber.

    • @paulsq_
      @paulsq_  4 года назад +2

      Thank you TYRANUS for answering this question. I don’t use the sear zone much. You’ll have a hard time trying to use it with foil on. If you’re gonna be searing something you’re best to just leave the whole deflector plate not foil covered.

    • @duanehenicke6602
      @duanehenicke6602 4 года назад +2

      I use the sear when doing one steak. Burn pot is small. Only big enough for one steak. Never used foil. It's easy to use a scrapper on the deflector. It has to be removed when you vacuum out the ash from the pot. So while i have it off i scrape it.

    It's funny my dad was like the opposite of Hank hill, he has always used a kettle grill. When I started working I bought a budget gas grill he hated it when I first got it. But then started using it during winter and rainy days. When I moved out 12 years ago his house warming gift was an industrial gas grill $$$$ hahaha one for me one for him. Wonder how he will take me getting a pellet grill hahhahaha

  • @TheSloansFour

    Thanks for making the video. I've been debating for about a year if my next grill should be a pellet grill or not just because when I need the grill I need it cooking right away. I also have an electric red bullet smoker that just doesn't cut it. Finally decided to get one and decided on the Austin XL. I'm thinking I'll use the open flame and I don't have Traeger kind of money. This was actually on clearance so I went with it.
    Pretty humid here in the summers so I'll probably empty the pellets unless I plan to use it again in a day or two.
    So the smoke stack, is that a pit boss stack or what?
    The front shelf, home made?

    I have a classic and I do love the product. But it seems that after a long smoke session the rod ignitor tends to give out. For no reason. I clean the grill on the regular. After about three or four uses. I called and emailed customer service and they have not replied. Their customer service is horrible. I have friends that have treagers and their customer service is on point. No questions asked. They get them what they need. Hopefully this helps someone make up their mind. You get what you pay for.

    • @paulsq_
      @paulsq_  4 года назад

      Glad to hear you love the product. I’ve heard a few people tell me the customer service isn’t up to par with Pit Boss. I can’t answer why that is, I’ve never had any issues that I’ve needed to deal with customer service. For the price I still feel it’s the best bang for the buck. I don’t know why your igniter rod goes out on you. After the initial startup of the grill the rod stops heating as it’s on a timer for lighting the grill only

    The barrel under the grill area on mine has rusted horribly to the point of separating layers. It's always covered with a pit boss cover and kept under roof. How about you.

    • @paulsq_
      @paulsq_  3 года назад +1

      I’ve just got a little surface rust on the outside of the cooking barrel in the front but nothing that’s causing structural damage to the grill. I keep mine covered with a generic bbq cover one would use for a gas grill in the summer months where it just sits on my deck not cover by a roof, and I move it into my garage for the winter months so I can still use it without have to shovel a ton of snow every time to get to it. I’ve used the heck out of this grill in the 3 years I’ve had it now.

  • @interstellarsynthesis5654
    @interstellarsynthesis5654 4 года назад

    I've had my Classic for about a month and a half and my piteous heat shield is starting to get surface rust on it. I've kept it covered and tried to take care of it. Should I be concerned? Or is it pretty normal? I don't mind it turning brown, I just want it to last more than two or three years. Great content by the way!

    • @paulsq_
      @paulsq_  4 года назад +1

      Don’t worry about the rust. I noticed mine rusting after a few cooks. It’s all good as it’s just the rust color and is getting damaged. Just brush the rust dust off every time you clean out the fire pot. This grill should last you for a few years. Thanks for your comment

      Paul’s Q thanks for the response. I appreciate that. Got a pit boss coming this week. I’m pretty pumped. Since I’m in Canada, the winter question is key. Would love to still be able to cook. I watched your video where you mentioned the one guy left it uncovered on the rain and the pellets got soggy and jammed the auger. Was curious at that point of snow would be an issue. But I suppose moisture is less of an issue while everting is hot and working

      You won’t have any issues with Ryan. I live in Ontario so my grill has been through a few Canadian winters now. If you’re gonna be keeping it outside all year long just have a good bbq cover for it while it’s not being used. Mine stays outside in the backyard all summer long covered when not using and in the garage during the winter
