I blanked out for the first few second of the video because this vehicle brings back so many memories. My dad got it for a family car when we first came to Canada, and we had it for 3 years, when we upgraded to a 2002 grand Cherokee.
I had a 97 grand Cherokee and it was a tank. Got it with 150,000 miles and sold it at 300,000. Only issue I ever had was a water pump and normal maintenance.
Gotta love those Jeeps our family had a 1988 Cherokee Chief bought it brand new in 88 drove it till 1999 at that time it had well over 350,000KM not sure what that is in miles as I am in Canada the only thing needing replacing on it was a few clutch's rad hose and the usual oil changes other then that it had no issues AMC made the transmission for Jeep at the time I believe . - Chad
My 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo just went over 125,000 miles. I inherited it from my mother when she passed away. She only had driven it for 9 months. I would like to find someone to refurbish bumpers, front grill, inside ceiling, and side door covers. Everything else is in great shape, engine, etc., being a straight six cylinder my husband says they dont make them like this anymore. I will cherish this SUV forever/.
the average MPG on the 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0 Litre Automatic 2WD is 14 City 20 Highway the average MPG on the 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0 Litre Automatic 4WD is 14 City 18 Highway
Glad to hear it. Sorry my response was not helpful (too late!) but at least you did. Can always rebuild that other 4.0 and have a nice shiny backup or sell it. They are hard to kill and plenty of Jeep owners would be happy to take it off your hands.
my grandpa had this exact one with leather and then replaced it with a 2003 liberty sport manual. I now have the liberty but I kinda wish I had the Grand Cherokee, theyre pretty nice
My family used to have one of these. It might have been the same color even. We had the Limited with the leather seats, and they were unbelievably comfortable!
@1ownjoo2 Wiki is not a reliable source for anything. The 1st gen Cayenne isn't a crossover, but it's neither a body on frame truck either. The Cayenne is the equavalient to the VW Toureg which isnt a crossover either.
@1ownjoo2 Well technically speaking the Cayenne isn't car based so it's not a crossover. and both the Grand cherokee (ZJ-WK2) Have been unibody so theres no arguement there, and the cayenne is also unibody
It's 2021 and I still have mine. I absolutely love it, love it, love it!!! It helps that I'm married to a master mechanic lol But, we've really never had to do anything, other than it eating water pumps...lol Mine's a v8.
If you look before he even started it the gauge was up at 210 degrees which means it was probably already running before he took the video or the water temperature sensor is screwed up. My guess is he already had it running before the video to make sure that it started and ran fine before making a sales video for it. I have a 1993 as well and I have gotten it hot before because my belt broke on me. It did not take long to overheat and if this Jeep was going to overheat, it would've in the video.
I love those jeeps too. I have a red 96 grand cherokee limited in mint condition. Its got 41k original miles and rust free. They are so fun to drive. Thats why i got an older one. I'll make a video of it for ya
Also, we had one of these, it was a '96, but pretty much the same thing. BTW, the pattern on the seats is called Dayton/Regina cloth, according to my '96 Jeep brochure.
i love this car.my grandma owns a red one and it kicks ASS! (although she has had to make a lot of repairs because of the age.she's already replaced three tires on it.)
93 - 95 model interior, especially the ster.weal and sits are much better esteticly and usefully.....oh what a memmories with all those chiks....my father bought New one back in 1994. And was a bomb indeed...what a luxury jeep for that period...
A muffler delete brings so much more character from the exhaust, mine sounds so badass. Almost like a gasoline Cummins i6, very unique sound and can be heard a mile away lol. Definitely not a common sound.
And I thought 89k on my 04' was low..haha. Great truck. The ZJs dont suffer from the same headlight oxidation that the WJs do. I have to replace the headlights on mine.
I have the exact same car great for towing cars on trailers also great in the snow, but the one I have had death shake and the power steering pump or lines are leaking has not driven in about 4 years I am looking to get it on the road in the spring of 2019, needes a lot of work.
The only two things that is wrong with the Jeep 93-97 Grand Cherokee's, after carefully reviewing, are the transmission and the gas tank is placed behind the rear wheel axle. Otherwise, Good Vehicle!
i think that it would be a good idea to record a short clip explaining that this is an older video and insert the clip before the actual video. i don't think a lot of people actually read the description lol
Pinging can be a number of things from bad gasoline (often due to water in the gasoline), bad valves, bad camshaft, weak rocker arm springs, could just be the valves need the lash adjusted too. Best bet would be to have a professional mechanic check it out.
Does anyone know if Chrysler has now or in the past recalled the bad paint? Mine is like a dark tan and the paint peels off the roof and hood like skin that's burnt from being at the beach too long lol. Its the dark tan color.......Also FYI for anyone, the Selectrac 4WD system is the best ever made!! Winters here in NJ are not getting better and I never had a problem with going thru the snow AWD. Yes it's better than a Benz LOL!
Except the transmission timing is a little off and just needs a few more adjustments but other than that it runs good!! Most likely sell the old one and let the junkyard guys rebuild it or let the new owner rebuild it
Damn That Car Is 100% Perfection I Would Buy If I Was In North Carolina They Fixed It Up Nicely. They Basically Made It That What Ever Lucky Person Bought Couldn't Look At Them If Something Was Faulty Every Single Piece On That Car Is Brand New. Even Though The Car Is Not
Need help ASAP. Front passenger side fuse box cover has gone missing and I'm needing a diagram if there is anyway you might be able to send a photo of it to me ?? Be very appriciated
Had one in green. Loved that vehicle, But it was a money pit. Things kept going bad; especially gaskets. The last straw was when someone tried to steal it. Traded it in on 2004 Malibu, thinking who would steal that.
My stepbrother's car: a 1996 Laredo is making a ping-ping-ponging noise in the motor, what could the issue be?? My stepfather starts it up to keep the battery active and then the noise immediately goes off. Itz been like this for at least almost a year!! Right now itz unregistered and he (stepfather) is looking into a good used 4.0 L inline-6 at the junkyard
That car has got an issue with its cooling system or a computer. Pause at 5:33 It has been idling for about 4 minutes and its all the way up to 210 degrees. You failed to mention that. We have the vary same jeep and it never gets that hot not even in town.
@saabkyle04 Hey saabkyle04, remember i asked a request to engage 4WD, this would've been the perfect vehicle, because it was a lever, not buttons or a switch, you must've forgot?
Safe? You think that its safe for a car to heat up to 210 after idling for a few minutes? The 1993 Jeep we have only goes near or slightly above 190 when we are going up over Highway 17 in the middle of summer when its 90 degrees out.
Hey Kyle, can you rev higher? Plus you say power everything, but manual seat. Could you also tell us, FWD, AWD, RWD, or 4WD, and more of the back, e.g. air conditioning if present, how it rides.
Don’t you just love when you see cars that are in excellent mint condition?
I've always loved this car, this is the best generation of them all!
Indeed it is. My dad had a green one and I loved that jeep
@Alex whats your point?
11 years ago*, my dad also
I blanked out for the first few second of the video because this vehicle brings back so many memories. My dad got it for a family car when we first came to Canada, and we had it for 3 years, when we upgraded to a 2002 grand Cherokee.
Gotta love your older Grand Cherokees! Great vid as always Kyle!
Am I the only one who likes the sound of the 1995-1998 Grand Cherokee exhaust note?
B. D. No I love it
i was just about to comment that...i fucking love it sounds so deep
SEAT TOLEDO
I like it
B. D. Is it diesel!؟
Very well kept. Engine sings. Bullet proof inline 6
My Dad had a '95 Grand Cherokee Laredo with close to 300k miles on it. Those 4.0L motors are bullet proof!
SO clean. My grandpa just got one as an extra car from a private seller for only around $2,600. I love it! Hope to inherit it one day
...
Ahhhhh a video without highway noise. These vids at your house are the BEST!
Might be buying a 1994 5.2 tomorrow. Blue AWD
Did you buy it?
Beautiful truck! My mom had one just like this. It was totaled after she hit a deer. I miss it so bad
Oh deer... deer lord
i have a '98 of these. love it! 185k miles and the engine still runs strong.
Wow, I didn't even know they had the chime we have today back then! KEEP IT UP, JEEP! I live. I ride. I am Jeep.
I had a 97 grand Cherokee and it was a tank. Got it with 150,000 miles and sold it at 300,000. Only issue I ever had was a water pump and normal maintenance.
I have one but it was my dads, I will miss you dad😞

it stills kicking asses!!!!
greaT video! i´ll make one my own.
I like seeing these Jeeps, very reliable, and so cheap. One of the few cars that are the best.
I have 240,000 miles on mine an its runs like a champ
273,000 on mine.
Wow that is one clean example. I only wish my '95 Laredo looked even half that good.
the engine on the 1992-1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee
Engine
4.0 L AMC 242 I6
4.0 L Power Tech I6
5.2 L Magnum V8

So sorry for your loss, Cindy. Awesome memory of her with you getting to keep the Jeep. That's very low miles!
the 1992-1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee was assembled in
Detroit, Michigan, United States
Graz, Austria
Córdoba, Argentina
I am buying one just like this in a couple of weeks. This presentation was very helpful!
the average MPG on the 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0 Litre Automatic 2WD is
14 City 20 Highway
the average MPG on the 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0 Litre Automatic 4WD is

Ah Kyle, the dreaded inline 6, that motor if well taken care of, will run for over 300k. nice find and hope that it goes to a good home.
my grandpa had this exact one with leather and then replaced it with a 2003 liberty sport manual. I now have the liberty but I kinda wish I had the Grand Cherokee, theyre pretty nice

I just got a 1997 Orvis with the 5.2 and it kicks my 1998 surburbans ass.

This is the best condition I've ever seen a ZJ in.
My mom has this car, 1997. Good memories. She traded it in when she got a BMW X3
I am the proud owner of a 1994 Grand Cherokee Laredo. I've always wanted to own one, and am glad I own one! (:
@1ownjoo2 Well technically speaking the Cayenne isn't car based so it's not a crossover. and both the Grand cherokee (ZJ-WK2) Have been unibody so theres no arguement there, and the cayenne is also unibody

@flyerholland the v8's that came in this body style (zj) were 5.2 and 5.9 (which was only offered in 1998). THe 4.7 was introduced to the WJ in 1999
Also, we had one of these, it was a '96, but pretty much the same thing. BTW, the pattern on the seats is called Dayton/Regina cloth, according to my '96 Jeep brochure.
hey kyle i just turned 16 yesterday and iv'e been looking at one of these and a 1998 ford explorer sport which one would u prefer.......thanks
possibly getting a 98 zj 4.0 today
I have one too . It's not 4x4, but it's very clean. Does it matter?
Just bought a 1997 Laredo with the 5.2l and the upcountry suspension package, 99,500 miles
i love this car.my grandma owns a red one and it kicks ASS!
(although she has had to make a lot of repairs because of the age.she's already replaced three tires on it.)
278,000 miles and counting. Currently replacing everything that's broken or needing to be replacing becuase of all the mileage.
Best SUV Ever

Fan bearing sounds like shit. Just like mine!
Love that 4.0 rattle. Seems to have a slight exhaust leak.
Does anyone know the differences between the jgc and the Laredo model
Angel Antonson Laredo is a trim level
this jeep is sweet kyle! would you suggest buying a used one like this?
A muffler delete brings so much more character from the exhaust, mine sounds so badass. Almost like a gasoline Cummins i6, very unique sound and can be heard a mile away lol. Definitely not a common sound.
I've always loved this car, this is the best generation of them all!
The 5.9 version engine is the best sounding SUV!
And I thought 89k on my 04' was low..haha. Great truck. The ZJs dont suffer from the same headlight oxidation that the WJs do. I have to replace the headlights on mine.

This is a nice grand Cherokee I love these body style of the grand Cherokee
RyZe SWarM me too my favorite
Wow that engine sounds amazing...

Can u do an in depth tour of your home and personal vehicles
@saabkyle04 how is that possible? 720P on a camera is 720P on youtube, if you actually upload it in 720P,
regardless, keep up the good work :)
Can you do a full in-depth review of your mama's 2002 Toyota Sequoia
My 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee has 280,651 miles and still runs like new.
im hoping i will get one of these ik in my faimly who has 3 of them 2 runs and the other don't i really love these old jeeps
Does anyone know if Chrysler has now or in the past recalled the bad paint? I have a 96 grand cherokee with brown paint that is flaking off like yours
I have a 98 grand cherokee with white paint, and paint still looks like new
I have a 97 that's dark green and doing the same thing. Mine seems like the clear coat is just peeling though
this car reminds me of the old '96 cherokee you guys used to have.
Except the transmission timing is a little off and just needs a few more adjustments but other than that it runs good!! Most likely sell the old one and let the junkyard guys rebuild it or let the new owner rebuild it
I'm restoring mine completely
My dad has an 1998 Grand Cherokee 5.9 limited and it kicks ass
the transmission on the 1993-1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee
Transmission
4-speed Aisin AW-4 automatic
5-speed Aisin AX-15 manual
4-speed 42RE automatic
4-speed 44RH automatic
4-speed 44RE automatic
4-speed 46RH automatic
4-speed 46RE automatic
Happy birthday to your beautiful boy is going through the best for
Exhaust somewhat reminds of a Cummins TD revving up. Should sound similar since they're both straight 6s.
Even Though The Car Is Not
@BGKO1992 They don't overheat, but they could have transmission problems. But nevertheless, they are good trucks.
That is a safe operating temperature for the 4.0. Between 190 and 210 degrees.

@gastonbonnat I had a 96 that had 340,000 miles and still would spin 31" mud tires on pavement. The inline 6 is tough.
She stars in the movie 'breakdown'!
I noticed you turn the lights one BEFORE you start the Jeep. Any reason?
I’m not a fan of the gas tank that behind the rear axle on the Grand Cherokee until the Grand Cherokee’s 2005 redesign
Do you worry about the exploding gas-tank ?
nice lookin cherokee kyle. i have that same exact radio in my bedroom from my 99 caravan
i'm in love i want it lol.
ok

kyle u should do a video on an old toyota supra or even better ... a classic nissan skyline
what do u think ?
I love my 93 its simple and good looking has everthing i need i only wish it was rear wheel drive easier to do donuts in :D
i used to drive to work in one of those
your so lucky you got the 2wd transfer case. i got the 4wd all time all wheel drive transfer case that okay but sometimes i would just like 2wd.
Congrats great vid ; Awsome truckI would like to buy that GCherokee, just let me know
@saabkyle04 Hey saabkyle04, remember i asked a request to engage 4WD, this would've been the perfect vehicle, because it was a lever, not buttons or a switch, you must've forgot?
@techlover86 That's a little over 200,000 miles. That's at the upper limit for most cars.
If I had to chose my favorite suv this would be it
