I'm here to point out diplomacy is a looot better now than it was, you can trade settlements, vassals can't be declared war on directly and they have to declare on you which solves allies breaking treaties because they dislike your vassal, order and chaos factions don't team up as often as they did Auto resolve also show you if any of your units will die so you don't just randomly lose a unit to an easy battle Siege battles have been uh, changed in many ways, some good some bad but generally a recent change has made it pretty good Ofcourse all this is for wh3 and a lot of things are still fallen behind in wh2, but pretty much every complaint mandalore had have been fixed or tweaked to not be as painful By the way there is a running joke that mandalore and sseth are the same person with split personalities, hence why they appear in "eachothers" videos quite often
Yeah. The main way I beat a Drycha campaign is by allying with the Von Carsteins and trading the low tier settlements to help them expand. We basically can ally with anyone if we simp hard enough. Unless it is some absurd -100 relationship default like empire and chaos factions.
Yeah diplomacy isnt limited to lore in Total War. The game is designed to be played like a sandbox. Yes all of the races have predetermined biases towards other races, but that doesnt mean it's a rule.
Thankfully the diplomacy in 3 seemed to get a major overhaul. There's still lots of nonsense that happens, bretonia allied with mausillon.... but for the most part it is more lore weighted. Nd thank cbrist they made allies recognize vassals. ATM I'm playing as empire, allied with kislev and karaz a karak... and its replaying the storm of chaos. To give a small update to WH2: the greenskins and beastmen are both reworked and VERY fun. In warhammer 3 they added a lot of quality of life things that bothered people about wh2. Mostly the sieges and diplomacy are a lot better, the lighting and music is much improved but they also reworked the warriors of chaos. Now there's probably not a single faction that needs a rework in 3, only one or two are maybe a little barebones compared to the others(including the lizardmen) but they are still VERY fun in battle regardless and good beginner factions.
Yes! So glad you decided to check this out. Highly recommend basically all of Mandalore's videos, especially Cabella's Dangerous Hunts and the Marathon/Pathways into Darkness videos.
As a Vampire main, let me just tell you that the free skeleton tech no longer exists because you could spam out half a dozen armies of nothing but bone boys and drown your enemies in a skeletal tide. So they changed it from -100% upkeep to just -25% upkeep. It was a sad day when that change happened, but admittedly it was quite bullshit and one of the single most overpowered things in the game since you could get it by turn 19 if you rushed for it
Definitely recommend Mandalore for entertaining and chill game reviews. If you're gonna watch more of him in the future, might I suggest starting with his *Cabella's Dangerous Hunts* video? It's one of his newer ones, and some of the funniest his content's gotten in a while. Other than that, with the warhammer stuff I recommend following up with either the space marine review or the game chapter master.
Greatest line ever is when you do diplomacy with Balthasar Gelt as the Orks and he says "Yes yes Raaaarg! Raaaarg! Smash! Kill! You have until the sand runs from this glas to bark your nonsense"
Others have already mentioned it, but pretty much all of Mandalore's complains have been addressed and fixed for Warhammer 3. Warriors of Chaos. Greenskins, and Beastmen are among the most fun factions, Volkmar the Grim has gotten his own faction, diplomacy has been approved, etc. - there are so many improvements since this review - and a lot of it seems based on Mandalore's feedback (hmm..).
About the dlc, the units are in the game for enemy factions no matter if you buy it or not, you just can't use them yourself. Just get the dlc for the faction you want to play as if they have units or a leader you want to use.
Warhammer 2 Seige battles were a very painful thing to experience back in the day. Warhammer 3 definitely improved them a lot imo and can be really fun
Sieges now.... are unique. Every city has its own map now, different layouts, choke points etc. And they're huge. It's not just a walled city section anymore. That in itself is a huge upgrade. They're still not on the level of Rome 2, but they're alot better
@@seanrogers2482 My issue with the siege maps is that most of them have too many avenues for attack. I wish they would block off more avenues to make attacking harder and defending easier.
@@seanrogers2482 I wouldn't say unique. I've fought on the same siege map on different cities. A lot. Just have to be fighting against the same faction.
Ok i just finished watching the video (yes i posted the other comments while watching the video lol, i just wanted to get my thoughts out as fast as possible) I want to say a few things to correct some stuff. Mandalore's review is great overall but was made while Warhammer 2 was still getting DLCs, updates and reworks, so a lot of the things he says dont hold up to present Warhammer 2. Greenskins, Beastmen and Wood elves all got reworks in Warhammer 2 and are vastly different from the state they were in during this video. Greenskins being easily one of the strongest races in the 2nd game now. While Wood elves and Beastmen now have very very very unique campaign mechanics compared to every other faction. Warriors of Chaos sadly were only reworked in Warhammer 3, so you wont get to experience their peak yet. But rest assured they are now amazing in the 3rd game. Also Diplomacy and Seige battles are improved in the 3rd game as well.
Warriors of Chaos got a dlc which gave them 4 more Legendary Lords and reworked them giving the in the video mentioned dark fortresses as strongholds and other mechanics for Total War Warhammer 3 aswell as Beastmen had a rework later on while Total War Warhammer 2 still got dlcs ^^ Also Gelt is the meme guy of Total War Warhammer if you wanna see great quality memes there is a youtube channel called Tarriff making fun of every faction, some more/less. He is the reason even tho Beastmen are now fun to play, there is a certain legendary lord of their race I can't take seriously and a certain song reminds me of how bad beastmen used to be xD
I have an odd relationship with Bretonnia. They are no where near being any of my favorite factions. I am not all that great at micromanaging the shock cavalry to make the most of their charge bonus, not bad, just not great. Despite this, it is in my top 3 most played factions for campaign. I might be in denial, I will not deny the high tier cavalry looks really cool. I think there’s something so satisfying about pulling off a great hammer and anvil and watching most of a units health demolished in a powerful charge.
Yeah, keep in mind. This review is pretty outdated. And so is his review of Total War Warhammer 3. But they are all still hilarious. I consider Mandy one of the Three Kings of video game reviewers. The other two are Sseth and Max0r.
Before the siege overhall in Warhammer 3, the Vampire Counts were unbeatable in Campaign siege battles. The AI focused too much on the walls and because how the walls worked, there can only be 1 or 2 infantry unit in a particular space at a given time while calvary and most monstrous units were not allowed on the walls at all. Flying Units were the only exception. A six entire units of bats and Vargheist (the giant bat thing with the mohawk) would just swarm 1 or 2 unit of archers and just decimate them in a matter of seconds. In the late game it gets a bit more balanced, dragon units and the Bretonnians unlock Hippogryph knights (the best unit in their entire roster), but some factions just couldn't do anything. The Skaven has no air units and the Dwarves gyrocopter units are not made for air to air battle, also they are expensive as hell. But the Vargheists you could unlock in the early to mid game easily and relatively cheaply. So you enjoyed total air supremacy for a long time.
I think the sieges are vastly improved in Warhammer 3. They still have issues but atleast they are more interesting and no longer a tiny section of wall. Now you have multiple points you need to hold can barricade streets and overall it feels a lot more like a fighting retreat trying to hold individual streets while giving ranged units time to weaken the enemy.
Question for everyone who plays, What faction/s do you not particularly like, but find yourself playing them often nonetheless? For me it is Bretonnia.
They have tried to change up the sieges for TW3 by adding capture points inside that generate a resource for the defenders that they can use to build barriers or towers during and before the siege starts and some points give the defenders a bonus to their morale. So the attacking army does have more to deal with and plan out. So while siege battles can still be a bit tedious, there is still more going on then there was in TW2. Same thing with diplomacy, having the ability to trade settlements with allies and the AI actually understanding the difference between you and an vassal and giving you the option to join a war that your vassal is involved with at the cost of losing them. Also alliances have been changed up so you can actually order allies to do certain goals like defending certain cities or armies, attacking others, or even occupying ruins. You can make a outpost in your allies settlements that allows you to heal in their territory and you can even recruit units from their roster into your army. Granted, you can only recruit units that have the respective building there, you can only have four of them in a army, and the higher cost units will cost you more upkeep and also need a another resource called Alliegence Points to recruit. You get Alliegence Points over time from your outposts and doing missions for them when at war with the same enemy. Also recruiting units from another faction doesn't seem to apply whatever bonus your lord has. IE: If you're playing the lizardmen and you have a lord that gains bonuses for monster units and you recruit a dragon, phoenix, lions, or whatever from your high elf allies then despite being monsters those units won't get the same bonus as your native one. But despite that it's fun to see some weird combos you can do or see the AI make because of this.
Just going to say you don't need the other two games for three's big combined map granted. I'm pretty sure owning the previous two games give you all those factions. It's also very weird to see pre update warriors of chaos beastman and orcs wasn't even that long ago just use to the new version
Just to add something for the necromancer lords, they are great for a thematic approach. They reduce the upkeep of zombies and can simply recruit a full stack of them while following your main army around. Great to roleplay the unnending hordes.
Some of these issues are fixed some remain and some new ones exist. Ca sadly pissed away a ton of the profit from these games into making a looter shooter that they cancelled when it got 0 interest. Warriors of chaos and beastmen are both fixed up though and are some of the best and most fun to play in game 3.
You should definitely watch/react to the dlc reviews by Mandaloregaming. A lot of issues get addressed and fixed, some of them were heard thanks to Mandy. Unfortunately or fortunately, chaos still sucks in the second game, so you can jump to his review of the third game.
TW3 did "fix" a few of the issues with some of the factions - most notably is the Beastmen, who not only have recieved a new lord in Taurox the Brass Bull, but several new units that definetly improve thier factions staying power and in some scenarios they can be powerful.
Stellaris is a lot of fun but recently I tried to play it again and they changed a few important mechanics I had some issues with to get to work directly.
It's very sobering, isn't it, to see this after all those cinematic trailers designed to only build hype. I think it's likely still a good game, but there's a lot to keep in mind regarding what DLC you need to play certain factions and so on.
Sieges are jank, even now and there's a lot of contributors to why that is, and not all of them are on the battle maps. The campaign map is a huge contributor to as to why sieges are jank. Settlements are close to each other, which means that there's no real reason to be running around outside of a settlement with an army. So most of the battles are going to be sieges. Sieges without a battle (and without specific tech/lords to reduce it) take 10+ turns to even start to affect the city/army inside the city. Since settlements are so close, if a siege isn't completed on the turn it's initiated or the turn after, it's easy to blindside a sieging army. Raising an emergency army to break a siege and getting them from the recruiting province to where a siege is happening takes like 5-6 turns in all but the largest of empires. The amount of factions that can be at war with each other can be like 5-6 even in a more 'diplomatic' faction, so having an army tied up in a siege instead of dealing with another army rampaging along your border is.... not ideal. All of that contributes to sieges needing to be done quick. It's why we have pocket ladders, why so many lords have the siege attacker trait, and why so many things can smash down a gate. Then there's the jank on the battle map. TBH this aspect has been beaten to death by everyone, everywhere, but not a whole lot of people look at the campaign map as part of the reasoning why sieges suck. As to why ghosts can't go through walls, that's actually explained in universe. The builders of walls know about ghosts, and know that ghosts don't care about rocks. So they put in anti-ghost graffiti inside their walls so that there's a ghost wall inside the wall. Doesn't explain why they need ladders, but it explains why they can't just go through.
I know this is 10 months old, but despite starting total war with fantasy, I promise you this, if you are familiar with campaign and battle, that is all you need as Total warhammer does introduce other unit factors. However, game 3 does leave some stuff behind not for the better but for the laziness. Though, fortunately someone fixed it with a mod, and some folks wonder, why am I bothered? Well Mandalore once said, the end siege options with the images generally tell you a bit more about your faction since without them, I think the lizardman just set fire and break stuff when razing, not bringing a death beam from space. Or learn the Lizardman are a bit robotic and not realized that the skinks have time to goof.
actualy i realy like playing warriors of chaos because i just go around and burn everythink with my chosen stack also the vassal problem only exists if there are other norcan factions to kill so when you play warriors of chaos task 1 is clearing norca also the beastmen he describes are the old ones with the new dlcv them and chaos warriors become a real global crices
A lot and I mean a lot! Is changed and improved from the game 2 and 3, game 3 does have issues but they are ultimately improving! A lot of the major complaints he has are improved on
I will say another thing with the dlc that they're very focused in what subfactions they support mostly. The two empire dlcs for instance the first one is very religious with a priest lord and zealot infantry and the second is a robin hood archer lord with archers and colonial militia. As someone whose more interested in the knights and artillery of the empire I don't really feel that im missing out by not buying them
react to grim kleaper warhammer 3 making a one man army it will help you understand the power of lords and what happens if you try to declare war on EVERY factions at turn 1 and has the normal humor and jokes of his videos
I’m warhammer 3 Helmen ghorst is the most powerful campaign lord bc you get free zombies that won’t die. Like once he gets to level 16 or 18 you get all his unique traits and boom you will the game.
This is very late but I too have a 1050ti and the game runs ok if you pump everything to the lowest. Of course your mileage may vary seeing as the game does have weird bugs that can make it suddenly run worse.
Thankfully I've been able to put the trusty 1050ti to rest now, but I can agree that the game runs fine with it, as long as you don't stream with a Vtuber model lol
You know how Mandalore just completely disregarded Ghorst? That only applies to Total Warhammer 1 and 2. In 3? Holy crap, Ghorst is the stuff of nightmares. He got reworked to turn your basic-ass zombies into an unstoppable, ever-pushing tide of regenerating, poisonous, basically-indestructible flesh. Actually, I might as well just lay it on the table: don’t let anything in this video sway your opinion on any of the factions, simply because by this point it’s completely out of date. The Greenskins and the Beastmen were both completely overhauled in 2, and the Warriors of Chaos got changed up in 3 to the degree that they’re not even a horde faction anymore.
Saw the changes mentioned in another comment as well. I recently checked out Mandalore's video on Mechanicus, but once I have the time to I'll definitely work my way up through the DLC's and see what he thinks of Warhammer 3.
Your video about Kroll actually got me to redownload WH3 and give it another try. Upon closer inspection, they have fixed quite a few issues particularly with diplomacy, and have added some good things to the game. However, I would still insist that WH2 has far better siege battles. Now granted, the siege battles are a little better than they were at launch, but they should have had a toggle to disable supplies and complex siege tactics. But yeah, sorry if I maybe was a bit too harsh in my comments earlier about the state of the game lol.
Terrain used to play big part in TW games, charging up hill was slow and tiring, downhill was fast and archers on elevated ground had more range for example. Not anymore. Either they do not have such dedicated simulationists as influential part of the company, or they just dumb stuff down for wider audience/easier simpler coding, I do not know.
@@TheLegitWeebs Terrain still plays a major role in vs battles, because there is ton of terrain that interfere with ranged units, to the point that gunpowder units might be worse that bow units (and perhaps even worth skipping entirely) depending on the map.
I'm here to point out diplomacy is a looot better now than it was, you can trade settlements, vassals can't be declared war on directly and they have to declare on you which solves allies breaking treaties because they dislike your vassal, order and chaos factions don't team up as often as they did

Siege battles have been uh, changed in many ways, some good some bad but generally a recent change has made it pretty good

Sseth is mandalore when he stops taking the meds
Yeah. The main way I beat a Drycha campaign is by allying with the Von Carsteins and trading the low tier settlements to help them expand. We basically can ally with anyone if we simp hard enough. Unless it is some absurd -100 relationship default like empire and chaos factions.
Oh yeah. Also Orcs are much better now as well than at the time of Mandalorian review.

We got the landship recently^^
That video should be coming very soon actually
You should react to the mystery of the druids from mandalore
I AM SUPREME
Your video about Kroll actually got me to redownload WH3 and give it another try. Upon closer inspection, they have fixed quite a few issues particularly with diplomacy, and have added some good things to the game. However, I would still insist that WH2 has far better siege battles. Now granted, the siege battles are a little better than they were at launch, but they should have had a toggle to disable supplies and complex siege tactics.
But yeah, sorry if I maybe was a bit too harsh in my comments earlier about the state of the game lol.
No need to apologize! Glad to know the games improved since launch.
@TheLegitWeebs lol yeah it has improved a lot since launch
Warhammer 3 has fixed most of this. Except the ladders.
They fixed most of these fyi
Ai forget how auful wer caos wariors in first end sekund game
Terrain used to play big part in TW games, charging up hill was slow and tiring, downhill was fast and archers on elevated ground had more range for example. Not anymore. Either they do not have such dedicated simulationists as influential part of the company, or they just dumb stuff down for wider audience/easier simpler coding, I do not know.
That's unfortunate. I feel like the terrain being a factor adds a lot to the strategies players could use.
@@TheLegitWeebs Terrain still plays a major role in vs battles, because there is ton of terrain that interfere with ranged units, to the point that gunpowder units might be worse that bow units (and perhaps even worth skipping entirely) depending on the map.
Shogan is the worst, so don't
RIP I'll avoid it then
