I look forward to a city witchcraft video. I've gotten a whole book on city magic, and it still wasn't enough for me to find magic in urban settings. I grew up in the forests of central Alaska, and when I moved to a city in the lower 48, I felt like my connection with nature was cut off. I was used to simply looking out my window to see a sprawling taiga and mountain range. Wild animals, not just birds and bugs, were an everyday encounter. Going to a city park just isn't the same. Everything in parks is manicured and controlled, as manmade as the skyscrapers. Nothing is wild. If a plant tires to grow too large, or in the wrong spot, it's cut down. Out in the woods, your home feels like a tiny bubble of humanity amongst the wilds. In the city, you find tiny bubbles of nature amongst miles of cement and neon. I need nature to recharge my energy, but the dandelions fighting for life as they poke through cracks in the sidewalk feel like they're struggling to get enough energy to live on.

I totally get this feeling, and relate to everything you said. Of course I’ll be going more in-depth with my video, but a key part of being able to enjoy the city was finally accepting it is not the wilderness. It’s never going to replace the wild, so you have to stop searching for that. It’s just different. Instead of looking at what was missing, I searched for what was there. The unique qualities about a city that you can’t find in the wilderness! I’m not sure if you’re still in an city, but if you are- hopefully you can try looking through that lens and see where it leads you :)

Yes to botanical gardens! Anytime my partner and I are in a new city we always make a point to visit their botanical gardens. Pittsburgh and Denver are my favorites ☺️
