I bought the inverted torx set of sockets at Harbor Freight, under 10 bucks. That's all I went in to buy but I left with a set magnetic screwdrivers and a new 1/4 ratchet wrench and the sockets. It never fails. I kept having to remove my carb every other mow and clean it. I took it off at the end of the season to do the last mow and I lost one of the jets. So I bought the new carb and let it sit. I am here because I couldn't remember how the linkage went. This getting old.. it has been six months since I took it off the last time is my only excuse. Thanx for the video, I see how the linkage all hooks up now. My intake manifold is plastic and has O rings instead of those gaskets. I thought maybe someone had taken it off and didn't put gaskets on when they put it back? I bought it used. I see this manifold has no trepanned face groove for the O rings. I was going to install the gaskets when I reassembled it but I guess it doesn't use them?

IMPORTANT CORRECTION - you do NOT need a reverse Torx socket - you just need a 4mm socket!!! six points is six points, just use a tiny socket on those reverse Torx heads.

This and the Coil guide, did the trick. I did get hung up with hooking that throttle up wrong.

Awesome video - very simple to follow and common sense approaches made this super helpful replacing my carburetor. Thank you!

Nice one! I have a similar engine. I bought a kit on AliExpress and was slightly nervous the carburetor was different, but your video helped me step by step. I serviced my lawn mower, when I have never done any mechanical work myself. Thumbs up!

How did it go?. Was wondering how well the carburetor worked considering they aren't very expensive. I am changing mine out in a couple days when it cools down.

Great video and dialogue. Followed along and took roughly the same time as this video, so this is not a long replacement and solved the problem of the engine not shutting off. Thanks for posting this video!

I have a 25hp 2002 model, the intake is plastic. I was trying to figure out why the complete gasket set I got and the set that came with the carb, have two each of the carb gaskets, plus two different ones and a very thin metal one.

Thanks for the effort in making this video! BTW, metric sockets will work for outside Torx.

Great video, nice work. Not sure I'll try and tackle it myself. I replaced the fuel filter and fuel pump. Gas is being pumped to the carb and it'll start and then shutdown immediately. If I hit it with starting fluid it'll do the same thing.

Same problem here with a 20hp. When I took the Nikki carb off, I noticed it was extremely loose in any number of places. Seemed like there were air leaks more than anything, but mulching leaves isn't the best thing for the engine, admittedly.

How does the magnet at the bottom of the carb bowl open with out voltage? I would think you'd get no gas.

If you dont have enverted torks you can use either a 4 mm or 5 mm wrench (boxed end)

I really needed to see what you did on the fuel side of the carb where the metal louver sits between the gaskets. Why did you omit that part?

On the choke piece... should the piece with the screw be up against the screw are away from the screw?

My aftermarket carb kit has a metal "gasket" with "restrictions" that the original does not have. I don't know if it needs it or the orientation it goes in. It also has the wrong intake gaskets and spark plugs. What is the difference with the manual choke and automatic choke carbs? Can they be interchanged?

Where's the link to the rat's nest video? I had that problem and I always take the shroud/cowl off and check for them every spring before I start it and toast a cylinder.

Really enjoying watching the videos on this particular engine, as I just acquired an old Troy Bilt that has this exact 18.5 V Twin Briggs. I too am doing a complete overhaul and wish to replace the carb rather than attempt to clean it. I notice the link you provided claims it's a replacement for the 20HP and up V twins. Can you confirm that the Amazon link you provided will indeed work on this 18.5 HP? Thanks again. Your video series on this engine is serving as my "Video Service Manual" Beyond helpful!

Does anyone know what the O-Ring/Intake manifold gasket part number is? I have the plastic intake and it used the rubber O type

So if i have a 17.5hp engine like this one and i was looking to pick up a little power could i just swap the intake and carb of say a 24hp? I have to mowers and one is older and has a 17.5hp intek vtwin and my newer one has a 24hp and it came with a 24hp parts engine i could use(expect for the internal broken bits)

Thing about it is you might give it to much fuel and that’s bad on engine, might try it and look for blk smoke out of exhaust, if so switch it back

This is a great video. I wish I had seen it about two weeks ago. I have that exact engine. I paid $600 for a used T2000 after 4 cuts it started surging then would shut down after 60 seconds. I was pissed! I went on Amazon ordered parts for overhaul replaced fuel and air filters, gas hoses, fuel pump, carb, and the little hoses. The hose that sat behind the carb you mentioned cost me skin off the top of my hand as I thought i needed to take off engine spindle to get to it then realized i just had to squeeze and pull it out. Im was so happy when I put everything back together and it fired up sounding strong no surging or cutting off. Only thing now is for some reason my idle is too high. Any thoughts?
