Those are two sides of the same coin as far as I’m concerned. You’re both right. Even Tesla has work to do in this front. But they are at a much better position from which to grow.
MG and BYD offer great cars at fantastic prices here in UK/Ireland. The issue is customer service is shocking on all the owner forums. Most cars it seems no issues and the owners rave about them, but if u r unlucky it's a nightmare. Got a 2nd hand ec4. Loved the MG4 trophy though.
Yes I was there thanks to Sam's free offer, I was wanting to see more from BYD and MG, I was disappointed on the level of new affordable to the average Joe Blow, and left after a few hours.
I was excited at visiting the Melbourne show but I decided not to go because their were not enough brands attending. Wasn't worth it. Hopefully the show gets bigger next year.
Agreed, the enthusiast aren't not so many and won't drive sales. Ask them phone companies that listened blindly to fans and enthusiasts, those went bankrupt due to lack of sales. The regular Janes and Joes drive sales.
Tesla never showed up for any shows either and they are doing fine worldwide. Glad to see some people in comments who understand what is really important: "Actually their biggest mistake is crap post sale support and warranty." Thats the real stuff. Especially regarding Chinese companies - all of them are new, people are not sure what to think of them, how serious are they, will they be still around in 5 years time for support, service etc or will disappear like most "startups".
I was in London on a popular shopping centre with Tesla and BYD showrooms. Tesla was full to the brim and no-one in BYD's... there is something Tesla have that others don't. Hype? Brand value? Innovation over price? Something is...
BYD Will take over UK with a tsunami of product offering. They are going after VW and Toyota. They only have one hybrid Seal U. They will offer many more
@@mjcapinto the baggage of being a china car ... Even though teslas are also a china car, they are still seen as an American car, just made in China like an iphone. Sam, fully agree, not just at car shows but on the lack of (wait for it) traditional media advertising. Yes 25% of us in Oz, get part of our news/info from traditional media ie print, TV (yes free to air, 14million people a week) and radio. BYD does no advertising in that space. MG are a little better in ads and as reflected in their sales. C'mon BYD!
Make cars desirable and after sales service good when needed and the stock will fly out of the lot. Accessibility and regular OTA updates as required is a part of that package. Car shows and traditional media advertising don't cut it for me. Owner referrals far higher power and owners will regret when their experience is positive.
BYD and MG can only do this with better prices, more features and excellent service! There cars are just average at best! Like vinegar not wine with age there ownership will be a bitter experience. Only good it you buy new and keep trading in before the warranty up and not be a bagholder!
Keeping prices down by not spending $$ on advertising and trade events has served Tesla well. BYD Ford and Kia were at Melbourne. New ev owners will surely want to test drive anyway, the days of going to a trade show to see minor cosmetic changes has limited value if you haven’t driven one. Nope, they should prioritise $$$ on test drives not trade shows.
Car shows have not been a thing in AUS for years now. But making a comeback with the Melbourne Motor show next year and hopefully continuing. As a car person, i want motor shows for all cars, not just EV's. Having said this, not sure how effective expensive to run car shows are, given the internet/ social media/ U tube channels predominant role these days. Was Tesla there?
Get more affordable evs in Australia from China. Not everyone wants a seven-seat suv or huge pickup truck. Small city hatchbacks are needed. This market segment has been abandoned in Australia.
So true. Its amazing how all these EV companies seem to not have a slightest clue what the market actually wants. Most of them start from big sedans. Sedans! Who wants a big sedan these days??? What most of the market wants is either small hatchback or a midsize SUV. I think midsize SUV is an absolute king. What is best selling Porsche? Macan. What is best selling Toyota? RAV4. You get the point. And look at Rivian. They started form big sedans, then big SUV. And successfully got themselves close to bankruptcy. And only now they are desperately rushing to release a midsize SUV to save the company from the brink. Why do this to yourself?
@@user-hz3eu5in Profit driven decisions, small cars have less profit margin sadly therefore the likes of BYD are less inclined to offer the BYD Seagull as an example. There is no reason can't be successful as small EVs make up a large chunk of the Chinese car market.
One of my followers sent me a photo of an MG Cyberster at last month’s Sofia Auto Show. The Cyberster that was showcased at the show was not brought in by MG Motor but rather an electric charging station company that operates in Bulgaria. MG is unfortunately still not coming to Bulgaria. That Cyberster might have been the first in the Balkans to be fair.
Not going to the car shows is not a critical mistake. There's always next year. And the cost of exhibiting is relatively cheap compared to media advertising. But nothing more valuable than word of mouth
I have bad experience for yearly car service from BYD in Australia, i don't think its BYD's fault but the car service companies fault. When i booked the car for service at 9am, why can't they service the car at 9am or half hour after, instead they leave the car in the parking area for 3 or 4 hours and said the car maybe ready at 2pm. This is Not acceptable considering you booked a certain time for the service.
That's normal for any brand. There are some service departments that offer a 'while you wait' option but most customers drop their cars in the morning and pick them up at the end of the day.
While Working for a Chinese company on an engineering level , and seen the working ethic for quality and reliability, I cant think of anything more horrific than Driving or relying on a Chinese vehicle. 😞
@Ray-tc5zc Sorry buddy, I work for the chinese , I have seen the quality of materials and spares they bring to the industries, they don't work for reliability, just replace . Disposable mentality .
If you thought people at shows made you money? Maybe in the 1970s but really a loss leader since then. Good online marketing will be greater than any show can hope to be. Would I bother today? Maybe but only if it gave online exposure - if not there are better spends in my opinion.
Alpha people 😂 lol, you are overdoing it with the hype. Rational people do not buyjust yet. Yes, it's the future. But high innovation rate means your car and battery is outdated in 3 years and massive value loss. Most people cannot buy cars like mobile phones. New every 3 and then to the bin. eg V2x coming soon? Also warranty, parts, service is completely untested. Some of these companies offer warranty longer than they even exist. Also, issues with insurance and write off risk if 40% of the car value is located in the battery just above the road.. Keep up the hard work. But keep it real and provide a balanced view on things. Thanks..
Just read, that BYD sold 1432 cars in Germany in 7 months this year. That is on a level off statistical mistake. Other Chinese ev producers are even worse. It seems that chinese ev-s will be reality only in China and small markets like Australia and South America (maybe). I'm from Western Eurooe, we just don't take chinese cars even in cosideration for a purchase. Don't see that's gonna change. Taxes or no taxes
Unless we can buy these Chinese EVs 10-15k as they do in China…once they go bad, we dispose them and buy new…..like household appliances…if you buy a 15k car and keep it for 10 years , that’s a 1.5k annual depreciation.
MG Brand is very popular in UK and Ireland..The European car makers need to wake up and start making and selling cars for the masses and not for the rich.
I can believe that bringing your car to some show is expensive. How many car they need yo sell to cover the expenses of the show? Internet is chesper snd more value for money than show. Just my opinion.
Actually their biggest mistake is crap post sale support and warranty....
Exactly, that is why I wouldn't buy MG, other then that great car.

Tesla had very little competition
What you said is correct, but price plays the biggest part, when MG lowered their prices, they became an instant success.
RUclips videos like this one will make sure Brands like Xpeng sell well.

If prices are sharp, they will not need advertising as word of mouth will be enough. BYD compared to MG are overpriced.
Everyone wants to sit in the cars, reach the controls and imagine themselves on the road. Not being there is a big mistake, as you say….

Do it!!!! Everybody here really wants to see it!!!!!
Because they compete on price only. In terms of features and design they fall behind. They will not stand out in shows, quiet the opposite.
Untill they establish themselves as a low price, high quality and great support,, they are done,,
