Sorry I had to mute our mic during the song, it was picking up audio from the music being played out loud I’m glad Alex loved the video, it was time to throw some Tool on the channel! What Tool songs should we check out? I haven’t heard too much Tool either! I’m really wanting to explore them more!
First time on this one for me. gotta admit, the LYRIC went with the music. it was dark, deep and heavy. loved the slide on the guitar. Bass was great drums pretty simple. And please dont mention Rush and Tool in the same breath. its like 3 Gods vs some street punks.lol
I always enjoy your reactions. There is a British band that is not well.known but are one of my favourites and you should do a reaction to them. The band is called 'Amplifier' and I would recommend either 'Airborne' , 'UFO's' , 'Planet of insects' or ' The Wave'.
I watched a vocal coach react to this. She said while his posture is unconventional it's not necessarily terrible. She explained how it could be helpful standing like that. Tho most frown upon it, if it's comfortable to you,it is not terrible. As a former singer, I agree with that. I loved putting a foot up on a speaker and leaning out over the crowd.
i was a little young for some of these songs to register in a way that made the most sense to a mature adult, so the first time i heard bands like Tool, Alice in Chains, Nirvana, i almost shit my pants lol it was a little scary to be honest. I mean this song, and nirvana's "rape me" and Alice in chains "man in the box" , its a bit intimidating when your like 10, 11, 12. They hold up well though, i think they have aged fine.
Maynard is not unsettling or disturbing. Maynard is very layered and deep. Yet allowes us as fans who appreciate his art ...expression and personality to take a journey and yet dig deep to find ourselves and spiral out......
The funny thing about this is he has eye problems with rapid blinking, and they got so bad he had to start going back stage to sing. If there are really crazy flashing lights, he cant take it, and he could pass out.
How do you feel? Unsettled. That, my man, is fair. Maynard James Keenan can do that to ya. How that little weirdo makes those great big noises I'll never know, but I sure do love him. You know you've reached the pinnacle of coolness when you can do a show in a pink onesy and nobody bats an eye.
It’s about addiction, love, love this song. It’s hard to explain what so many people struggle with, Maynard pulls you into a world where you can feel that subduction without actually doing drugs. Bravo tool!
Their 4 track demo is out in digital world somewhere. I still have it on cassette. It has the best recorded version of Sober on it. When Undertow came out with Sober on it I called it the Vegas version. It was just too produced, but this comes from someone who saw Tool numerous times in small clubs before anyone knew them.
I first heard "Sober" in 1993 when I was a sophomore in high school. My friend let me borrow it and Tool was my favorite band forever more. The first songs that really got me were "Prison Sex" and "Sober" The whole Undertow album is incredible but in a much different way than Aenima or Lateralus. On "Undertow" you can tell that Maynard was definitely not at peace and was exercising some serious demons. If you think "Sober" is disturbing you should listen to the song "Bottom" (Track 4). Henry Rollins does spoken word on it and Maynard's scream is absolutely primal. The whole album is great. Not a bad song on it.
Andy & Alex lol I was wondering if you were going to come back to this video now that you’ve gone to their concert. The band is getting old, Maynard’s voice isn’t as good as it used to be, he can’t pull off any more “The grudge” screams
Greatest band in the history of.....history. I love when people who know nothing about Tool see or hear them for the first time. It makes me remember what it felt like to get that first Tool high.
This is by far my fav Tool song. When I flew to Vegas to see their show, they didn't play it. I was BUMMED, but it was still a great show. See them live if you haven't yet. Well worth it, even if you need to travel to see them.
The last Tool song I heard was when I use to play Guitar Hero. Really enjoyed this song your right Andy Tool are better live. Stay lucky stay safe Mike UK.
@@andyandalex yes Andy great vid again been listening to Hawkwind recently Silver Machine and the album Space Ritual Live. Also I heard that Alex is a rock singer I myself use to sing and tried to form a band called STALKER. Done an album but didn't get anywhere with it and couldn't keep the band going. Its my birthday tomorrow and off to York in Yorkshire for a couple of days. Stay lucky stay safe Mike UK.
this is my favourite Tool song and i've never heard it live and I FRICKEN LOVE THIS!!!! i am going to go and listen to the album right now :) if you haven't i'd be interested in hearing your opinion on the british band Judas Priest.. Rob Halford's voice is amazing! anything from the Killing Machine or British Steel albums :) cheers!
It's really great to see you guys reviewing TOOL tunes and videos. This one, Sober, was recorded at the Reading festival in 1993...over 25 years ago. Their music has really evolved since then for sure. BTW the 46&2 video isn't their official video, but a fan made vid using a video clip from the movie Pans Labyrinth. Another really great tune you should listen to and review is "Vicarious", it was one of their tunes that got some decent airplay when their latest album came out, close to 13 years ago or more.
Sir, I've had access to 100's of concerts (Houston summit connections), the one Tool concert I saw was different than all the others. Ole Maynard had his back to the crowd THE WHOLE CONCERT and the cigarette smoke was killing me! And not delicious weed smoke, but cig smoke!
different time, different maynard. he still has "stage presence" it's just way different than what he used to do. but yeah, maynard at that time was killer
A lot of my friends were into tool back when I was in my late teens, but i never really bothered with them, that was awesome though, maybe I should revisit! I know Maynard James Keenan from the Deftones song Passenger (Deftones are my most favourite band ever ever 😁), his voice is ridiculously good on that track. Definitely an amazing talent. Cheers guys!
The forty six and 2 video with the creature with eyes on its hands is a fan made video and is scene from Pan's labyrinth. The videos with the weird puppets and things are made by the guitarist Adam Jones though.
whenever i watch your guys videos, I end up continuously bobbing my head all over the place like you all do...i feel like we're 3 birds in a cage just mirroring each other...Tool is goat...and yes im high
fuck yeah. tool is so awesome. i remember the first time i heard them in 1992. yes, maynard's voice is incredible. he doesn't have the typical metal singer sound. i guess that's what makes them so good. check out aenima and eulogy on the aenima album. you should check out the original video to this and prison sex. super weird and creepy as shit. keep it up, youngbloods
I get a kick out of you guys discovering all this "old" music. Check out Maynard's other band during that time, A Perfect Circle. Find the official video of "Judith". It's absolutely my favorite video of all time and it's basically them shot in rehearsal. David Fincher who directed "Fight Club" directed the video. And yes, that's a hot chick on the bass. ;)
I’m really glad you guys did this video. Keep it up, tool is the GOAT. This song is not about addiction though. But it’s cool, you get what you get, when you get it. Do more tool.Try eulogy next.
AndyReacts well from 46 and two, we know the shadow is the things we hide from ourselves. So he seeing these things that he’s hiding, and he’s reacting emotionally. He doesn’t want to see what he seeing. So he’s having an emotional outburst, why can’t we not be sober, sober meaning aware. Tools use of metaphor is consistent. All the songs are in order, from opiate EP, to 10,000 days. It’s basically his life, changing, and growing. This album and the next album AENIMA are mainly psychological. I mean how he uses psychology and philosophy, to grow. Try 4° if you want to understand. He says locked up inside you is a cavern of treasures, dig it out and take you back in. I’ll kill the parts of me that I don’t like, then eat what’s left.
There is a British band that is not well.known but are one of my favourites and you should do a reaction to them. The band is called 'Amplifier' and I would recommend either 'Airborne' , 'UFO's' , 'Planet of insects' or ' The Wave'.
Would love to see you guys react to some Gary Moore. Parisienne Walkways Live in Montreux 2010 would be great start. One of the greatest guitarists to have graced this earth
Hey guys. This was my first Tool track. I've seen many other reviewers doing their material but have never checked any out. Agree with Alex in that it was a disturbing performance but didn't think it was anything special. Just sounded like many other metal bands to me. Each to their own I guess. I do trawl RUclips looking for bands that I haven't heard of before to 'give a go' and I found one yesterday that I found to be an interesting combination. The Claypool Lennon Delirium, featuring Les Claypool from Primus and Sean Lennon, son of John. Some of the songs, guitar work and lead vocals struck me as being very 'Syd Barrett', and throw in Claypool's awesome bass technique... Wow!! I play bass myself so am usually in awe of someone who can produce riffs like he can. I'm not a big Primus fan, but do appreciate his playing. The link to the concert I watched is ruclips.net/video/e6GPJhDeRYQ/видео.html. There was also a link in the description to them doing a cover of the Floyd track 'Astronomy Domine' which is also worth a watch bit.ly/2kOePb7.
@Sheik Yebouti Gotcha, no worries I’m glad you gave it a go, this isn’t my favorite Tool track, I just find the disturbing factor particularly interesting, try the songs “46 and 2” and “eulogy” by them, they’re far more enjoyable to newer Tool listeners I feel, let me know what you think! And thanks for the tip on that group!
Yep I agree, the claypool lennon delirium are awesome for anyone into psychedelic rock. Both claypool and lennon are big fans of floyd, king crimson etc. Dont give up on tool whilst they are over rated by many, they still have good albums and songs that really arent anywhere close to generic metal.
I could be wrong here because this is only my interpretation, but I think that this song is a follow up to their song "Opiate" which takes from the Karl Marx quote "Religion is the opiate of the masses". "Sober" in this case might refer to sobriety of religion, not substances. Hence the lyrics "Jesus won't you fucking whistle/Mother Mary won't you whisper?"...
Just in case you haven't heard the kids at O'Keefe doing their amazing cover of 46 & 2, here's the link: ruclips.net/video/mYKLvYGqaC0/видео.html . Unfortunately it looks like Kala Rose has retired from singing (at least for a while) so there's no recent stuff of hers on RUclips. In a better world, she'd already be a big star. (Not to disparage the others, but great singers are scarcer than great instrumentalists). The also do Sober. The lyrics are altered, but don't let that bother you. People complaining about this are wrong. (They must be. The alternative would be that Aaron O'Keefe is wrong, and I won't have any of that.)
When I saw the title I was really confused because I thought Sober was the band not the song and couldn't figure out how you came to know that song since it's from Spain and then I was oooh it's that song. Anyways I higly recommend you checking them out since it's a concept you may relly like it's an orchestra with a guitar and a lead singer and they play great.
Hmmm...I would have to say this is my first time hearing Tool. It was unsettling, disturbing, dark, and pink at the same time. I guess score 1 for Andy since it's my first Monday watching you guys. Now I might have to go listen to 'Don't Stop Me Now'.
@sheerqueencat Thanks for going out of your comfort zone to check it out, when I first heard Tool I didn’t like it too much, it is definitely an acquired taste, but once you kinda get into it, they are INCREDIBLE musicians, cheers!
You guys need to review Right in Two and Parabol Parabola. And if I had a vote I’d take Sober live over the 2 songs the other guy picked, however if it was the Sober studio version then yes then MOP by talica would be slightly better
Sorry I had to mute our mic during the song, it was picking up audio from the music being played out loud
I’m glad Alex loved the video, it was time to throw some Tool on the channel!

Please react to some INXS. I think they are massively under rated and the singer is next level. Please do some Guns n Roses as well. Thanks
Could you react to Heilung. You have to research a little before, TRIBAL. It's like death metal 800ad about runes and war. Live!
I always enjoy your reactions.
There is a British band that is not well.known but are one of my favourites and you should do a reaction to them.
The band is called 'Amplifier' and I would recommend either 'Airborne' , 'UFO's' , 'Planet of insects' or ' The Wave'.
you should listen to the pot, fortysix and two
I’m 65 yrs. I’ve seen Tool 4 times and if you haven’t don’t waste anymore time , Go! 💪🇺🇸😝🤘
THIS Song ages so well ♥️
@Tredicilune
Absolutely!!
Irony like a fine wine considering Maynard owns a wine vineyard in AZ.
I love seeing younger people discover TOOL. You have a long and awesome journey ahead!
This album blew my mind when it came out. Still blows my mind to this day, 25 years later.
It didn't leave my CD player for like 5 years. Until Aenima came out.
Absolutely!!!
His voice is phenomenal! Singing while in a distorted body position just proves his vocal talent.
He is mimicking the broken addict in their video for this song. It was huge back then
Play the video where Maynard chokes out the fan on stage and keeps singing! Push It is the song I think
Love it when he screams "THERE'S NO LOVE IN FEAR!!!" right into the dude's ear lmao
I love it when you can see the fan fist pump while Maynard has the mic cord wrapped around his neck.
And do you guys remember when he ate popcorn and sang perfectly on his backside? I forgot the song but that was awsome as well.
i was a little young for some of these songs to register in a way that made the most sense to a mature adult, so the first time i heard bands like Tool, Alice in Chains, Nirvana, i almost shit my pants lol it was a little scary to be honest. Maynard is not unsettling or disturbing. Maynard is very layered and deep. Yet allowes us as fans who appreciate his art ...expression and personality to take a journey and yet dig deep to find ourselves and spiral out......
I saw tool in 1997 Portland. One of the best concerts I have ever been to!!
Maynard is a tidal wave of passion
I'm in England I was at this reading show tool were awesome but when Justin joined tool went on to another planet 👌
I am guessing it's Paul D'amours here, isn't it?
Absolutely mesmerizing performance. Andy wins hands down...
Maynard doesn't blink.
The funny thing about this is he has eye problems with rapid blinking, and they got so bad he had to start going back stage to sing. If there are really crazy flashing lights, he cant take it, and he could pass out.
Same lead man in A Perfect Circle. Maynard Keenan. Musical genius.
And in puscifer, kinda diffrent style though...
I saw them on 2nd stage at Lollapaloosa with Primus and Alice In Chains on mainstage in Nashville... Freakin' amazing live!!
Lmao if they thought this was unsettling they should react to him performing Jerk-off at JC Dobbs Philly 1992
It’s about addiction, love, love this song.
It’s hard to explain what so many people struggle with, Maynard pulls you into a world where you can feel that subduction without actually doing drugs.
Bravo tool!
Hopefully we can pass the TOOL torch to the young generation..
This song is so spot on about alcoholism. Well written, well played and brilliantly sung.
Just put in Tool from their first album to their last. Seriously it's an experience
JUST do that? Lol. If you have liek 30 hours in a row to spare with nothing else to do, yes.
Maynard actually wrote most of this song in the mid eighties with his previous group Keenan’s Children of the Anachronistic Dynasty
Tool, you must have extreme intelligence to understand and enjoy them!!!!
Their 4 track demo is out in digital world somewhere. I still have it on cassette. It has the best recorded version of Sober on it.

Such a great reaction boys! "PINK ONESIE!" Lol. Beautiful!
Tool is the Primus of L.A. It's a bass driven sound and Les is just as freaky as Maynard. Both bands are off the charts in every measure.
Slight edge to maynard on the vocals lol
To get the full experience, check out live footage from the Lateralus/10,000 Days eras
Great all around performance TOOL is the real deal.
"I'm not going to say it's a competition or anything, but if it were, I'm Definitely in the lead"
You my friend, just lost
@LemonWalrus
Thanks!! Tool is a slick card to pull but necessary! Was time he saw this live show! 😁😎
Andy & Alex lol I was wondering if you were going to come back to this video now that you’ve gone to their concert. The band is getting old, Maynard’s voice isn’t as good as it used to be, he can’t pull off any more “The grudge” screams
Iv been going down a youtube rabbit hole of watching people react to Sober......Finally someone mentions the onsie LoL
can't t hardly wait for their new album coming soon after 13yrs.🎸
It’s so real because like myself I have an alcohol addiction and when you listen to this song it brings out what your addiction is telling you

still one of my favorite loves songs...by Tool...
*love....OMG...and to see Paul...flashbacks
Unsettling energy, great description.
I spend my time enjoying watching younger people discover my favorite bands. It’s like I’m watching it for the first time too. Awesome video guys

Jesus blow your fucking whistle is what I remember song in the song.
So unsettling..?.. expressive, passionate no b.s.

Tool - Pushit (Salival - Live)
He has stage fright. Most concerts he's blacked out and the lights are on the rest of the band
I read somewhere that he is sensitive to the lights and that is why he is always in the background.
I could be wrong here because this is only my interpretation, but I think that this song is a follow up to their song "Opiate" which takes from the Karl Marx quote "Religion is the opiate of the masses".
Just in case you wanna check them out look for
Sôber - El hombre de hielo
Sôber Orquestra O.C.A.S. - Arrepentido

Hell yeah! We aren’t on twitter but we’ve got an instagram and a Facebook page, links in the description!
And if you like live musics... Painters domination is the best
Hmmm...I would have to say this is my first time hearing Tool. It was unsettling, disturbing, dark, and pink at the same time. I guess score 1 for Andy since it's my first Monday watching you guys. Now I might have to go listen to 'Don't Stop Me Now'.
Go down the rabbit hole and we'll see you on the other side.
OK??
@sheerqueencat
Thanks for going out of your comfort zone to check it out, when I first heard Tool I didn’t like it too much, it is definitely an acquired taste, but once you kinda get into it, they are INCREDIBLE musicians, cheers!
@@andyandalex Thanks, Andy. I'll have to give them another listen!
You guys need to review Right in Two and Parabol Parabola. And if I had a vote I’d take Sober live over the 2 songs the other guy picked, however if it was the Sober studio version then yes then MOP by talica would be slightly better
