Lost Keys + Rosetta Stoned will blow your mind !!
All of Tools lyrics are deep and meaningful. The Grudge is amazing with the most intense scream and ending. Holding grudges brings pain mostly to the one holding onto it! Parabol / Portola is beautiful..about seeing life as a holy experience. GO DEEP INTO TOOL..YOU WONT BE DISAPPOINTED!
So, quick explanation regarding the lyrics. Basicly the song is about a friend of the band who was an artist but felt the he could only truly express himself and be creative when under the heavy use of substances. However that comes with the with it's associated costs, as we all know. Regarding a next song I'd go for something of the same era of this one, like "4º" or "Swamp Song". I'm sure when the rest of the Tool army arrives they'll mostly try to steer you into their more recent stuff from albums like "Lateralus" and "10000 days", which are all incredible albums, but in my own personal opinion you will enjoy those more in the long run if you understand where the band is coming from and how their sound evolved over time. So, my advice is to first listen to a few more songs of this album, "Undertow", which is their first one and maybe even go back and do a couple of their first EP "Opiate" and from there on move to the next album "Aenima". Then yu can move on to "Lateralus", "10000 days" and finally "Fear Inoculum". Tool is however a very consistent band so I'm pretty sure you'll enjoy the deep rabbit hole it is in anyway you chose to do it, but as I said I personally feel like in the long run this will be more enjoyable and provide you some context along the way.

Yea very well said. And I’m glad someone knows what the song is about. I have to correct so many people on this issue because they post shit like Maynard was a drug addict but wanted to be sober or the band was on drugs and alcohol so they wrote this song. But the truth is as Pedro stated, it was about a friend and the demons he faced with addiction and the belief that being on drugs helps with his music.

Brother im glad you saw Maynard like this. I was blessed to see Third Eye Maynard. He is opened up his minds eye for us
Lead singer is Maynard James Keenan and you will recognise his voice as soon as you hear it. Very unique and he has a fantastic range with very clear vocals. He was singing about addiction and playing the part beautifully. Talk about throwing everything you have into a song.
All songs. You just got a cube off the iceberg. Good reaction now you need to take the kool aid and go down the Tool rabbit hole. Pneuma is a nice place to start with their 2019 song. But really everything needs to be analyzed now. You are meant for it, I can tell.

Not sure if anyone mentioned this but in all their newer concerts Maynard stays in the background in shadows because he doesnt want himself to be the focal point

I always suggest anyone who wants to start their TOOL journey begin with TOOLS Aenima album. It’s the perfect bridge between the older albums Opiate and Undertow and the more recent albums like Lateralus, 10,000 days, and Fear Inoculum. Sometimes starting from say Opiate can lead people to not understand the bands style and Lateralus will fuck with their untrained brains. Aenima has that perfect blend of the older aggressive TOOL and the thought provoking and complex TOOL we hear in Lateralus. Needless to say the journey will have you asking yourself why you never got into TOOL before this.

Tool has about 30 years of material for you to catch up on. Seeing them live is the closest I’ve been to a spiritual awakening lol There is no other band like them. 🖤
I agree with your opinion on listening to the song and lyrics and to avoid the videos but there are 2 very important songs that sound and feel better with the video. If you watch the video versions of Forty Six and Two and Parabol/Parabola the experience is hypnotic and euphoric. Those 2 songs have to be heard with the videos, especially if it’s a first listen because they also help explain the lyrics and what the song is about. Without the video those songs will have you thinking wtf is going on. There is also a unique video floating out there for the song Right in Two wheee stop animation depicts the story line for the song which I also found made the song experience batter.

Literally anything by Tool is good. Don't do live (besides this and the Danny Carey drum cam video), and don't watch the official videos, they will just confuse you more.
