Donald is 75 now and won't be able to tour much longer. Bands like this need to continue to keep Steely Dan/Fagen stil alive. This and all your other selections from this concert are just superb.
Metronomic drumming? Roger Nicholls' Wendel II drum machine was used on The Nightfly, but I'm not exactly sure on which tracks. New Frontier also has a very regular, metronomic beat.
Again I bow my head in respect for your outstanding work. You are, without no doubt, the best Donald Fagen / Steely Dan tribute band I’ve ever heard. Thank you so much for you effort and excellent performances with this material. Bravo!👏🏼
True masters. I’ve been into the ‘Dan’ since the early 70s I can listen to them every day. I know every note in my blood. I could listen to you guys every day🤟🤟🤟✊✊✊🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏👍👍👍👍
That looks like Gary Lunn on bass, and yes, he’s an incredible player! Also Tom Hemby on guitar. Tim Akers on keyboards (black shirt), John Hammond on drums and Gene Miller on vocals. They also play together in Tim Akers’ Smoking Section, an amazing funk, soul and R/B band featuring horns (who are likely represented in this video, I just can’t make them out). Gary’s bass on their cover of Rock Steady is fantastic!
An utterly brilliant song, fell in love with its musical complexity on the Nightfly album in 1982. Studied it ever since, now this absolute treat of seeing it performed live. I need to rub down these goosebumps! Blown away!! What a creamy guitar tone.
@@shannonmorris8501oh yeah, it reminds me of a fine wine. When I got The Nightfly piano music I was amused to find some pieces like Greenflower Street didn’t bother with a key signature because there were so many accidental flats and sharps. I’m a guitarist and love to play some piano but I play like the dog in the Muppet Show.
The Nitefly has to be one of the greatest albums ever made. These are great live renditions played by a superb band! Then again, you don't need me to tell you this - just listen!
Was dancing to this by the Drifters at the age of 14 in 1956. Loved the Donald Fagen rendition when I heard it years ago. I love this song. You guys are killer.
Same age as my Mom. You've got you 80 on the way...Happy Birthday! She took me to concerts as a kid and instilled my love of live music. Saw James Brown, Stevie Wonder, Jackson 5 (before they had a record deal), Al Green, etc. in the early 60's and 70's.
I'm surprised there aren't more views for this group and their other songs. Got a lot of balls covering D Fagen. Not very easy to do. Impressed with the back up singers in particular. Hit all the right notes on time, Not surprised no DF sounding voice for vocals. Again, hard to imitate his voice..Really enjoyed this and the other songs from that album that you guys covered. Nice work, deserves more views!
I like watching this band even more than listening to the original tracks. In the early 80's I attended university with some of them, and did a lot of Nashville recording work with Tom, Gary, John. Nowadays, I am just an amateur Hammond B3 grinder for amusement.
I grew up in a musical family. Surrounded by Cannonball Adderley, Nat his brother, Nancy Wilson, Motown artists... not to name drop just thankful. You guys are truly some of the most gifted artists I have ever had the privilege of listening to. If you are ever touring in the US please post the dates here. I would love to see your performance.💝♾
FANTASTIC JOB EVERYONE!!! I never imagined I would hear any band play this song anywhere near as good as the The Nighfly recording, but all of you nailed it, 🤯 and the mix was perfect. Personally I Fagan himself would be impressed, well done everyone.
Great cover of a Great cover. Took me a while to see the keyboard player tucked away at the back. Then it all made sense. Outstanding musicianship throughout.
Superb in all ways. Thank you for all the effort it took for this result! Love The Nightfly. For me, it eased the pain of the Dan concluding their '70's run.
Incredible job! Just incredible. That right there is one of my favorite piano solos ever, and he totally nailed it. What else can I say? The drums, the bass, the vocalists ... it's all just outright amazing!
I was looking for a live version of this song and found this one. Had NO idea it wasn’t DF til the end. Kudos! I’ve listened to all the other videos. Great job!
This album is dedicated to my brother who always shined more than his family. You're were ahead of all of us. Please remember you're legacy is still strong!!! I love you Daryl DICHRISTINA

the recording is impeccable. you can hear all instruments without drowning others out. the drummer is like a metronome
Talking of mteronomes -within pop/rock drumming the guy in U2 comes to mind..I think he must rehearse his exact intention kinds thing.
And music sounds good
It does sound good but if I were running the house mix I would bring both high harmonies down a bit, as they seem a little hot for this room.
@@TracedaBassman I thought as much. But then I thought maybe I was being a bit critical

I concur.
Thank you. Glad you folks get it.

@@garrycomloquoy7141 me too. I also even know exactly where the scratches come in from my original vinyl 🤣.
I keep coming back to listen to this. Just fantastic!!
Absolutely beautifully done guys. There can't be a SD fan who doesn't recognize how good this is.
I’m a big Steely Dan/Donald Fagan bass playing fan, props to the bassist..... damn note for note.
And to the arranger for a note for note transcription. 😉
@@TNKeys And the sound mixing engineer for the same mix!

There aren't enough superlatives to describe the quality of this.

Yes! When the singers hit that chord, "mine", all the crazy notes are there, so accurate and satisfying.

John Hammond is rock solid and grooves! That snare...that snare!
Really good cover, folks. Groove, tone, layers, vocals, intent... it's all there.
