      @thedungeondelver 4 года назад +2

      @@thomasreeve3492 People don't think PSUs can impact a computer like that, but they can. A bad power ripple can take down a CPU's efficiency and produce errors, kill RAM, etc. I did a rebuild on a friend's i7 four or so years back. His PSU had croaked, and power-cycled his system like...3 or 4 times before he caught it. Killed the motherboard, his SSD, his physical HD, 3 of 4 8gb RAM modules, and optical drive. All that survived was his AIO and his CPU (and 1 RAM module). All that damage from just 3 or 4 quick, sudden power cycles.

    Since so many people get these types of pre-builts as gifts or just as a convenience it would be great if you could do some videos of simple things that would help increase performance for very little money. Like cutting a hole for more air flow, checking bios settings or adding a second stick of memory (nah, that really doesn't help much). Help a brother out of a jam for cheap! Love the channel.

    It would be kind of interesting to see if putting a decent intake fan in the side mount position helped with the thermal issues. Upgrading the CPU cooler also seems like a reasonable thing to do in this type of build, if you can fit something in there.

  • @shannonrhoads7099
    @shannonrhoads7099 2 года назад

    i have a sleeper. I used an In-Win IW-508TX.FD20 beige mATX mini tower. For a case released in 2008, it has some surprising features. The top mounted PSU sits in its own 'attic' with the 5 1/2" bays, the side panels are tool-less using plastic clips, and there are vent slats for the 80mm intake fan in the front panel as well as room for a 100mm exhaust fan and a side panel duct for the CPU fan. It also has pre-molded 'standoffs' so you don't need any of those brass ones. On the downside, there is no cable management space at all save the drive bays...
    I first used an I7-11700K/B560 combo, with an RX 5600 XT, 32 gb ram, a 500 gb sata ssd and 2tb 2.5" hdd, a beige dvd drive and with the help of a usb adapter card, a working 3.5" floppy drive alongside a beige card reader. I had to use a low profile air cooler, so I chose the Scythe Big Shuriken 3. This in turn pulled air through the case's plastic side vent tube.
    However, the B560 mobo stopped detecting ram suddenly, and I couldn't get it to work with any ram I had. So, I swapped the platform with a Ryzen 3700X/B450 combo and reused all the other parts. That machine is still working today.

    Feel free too do that with a IBM Thinkcentre pc case if you got tools too do metalwork in the case you can add larger feet too the case, add a pair of bottom fans for the gpu which is where the bottom fans help quite nicely & a top fan or two probably as well with some fan filters on top of the case covering the holes for the fans. A small dremel with 2 - 3 cutting discs & wearing some face protection along with a drill too make holes for the screws beforehand for said fans ofc as well.

I built my first rig back in 90? 91? don't matter - a time of boot disks and howling modems *shudder* but I have done too little for a couple decades regarding keeping current with costs and performance. But I found this video helpful. Do I really want to buy new or is my system more than adequate with a few upgrades? Bear in mind we greybeards have some major releases in the next year or so thus it will need to compete with the main herd - and where is that now? how many gigs of ram? what gpu? and do you have a swiss-army knife with marital aids?

    i actually own this case and if you rip of the cases front off, the fan is just being covered with foam an if you get rid of the foam and replace the fan it makes the air flow a bit better

    A note on the thermals, in particular that front panel:
    As Tech Jesus teaches, not all mesh means airflow.
    That perforated front panel is more panel than perforation.

    Yes. Do a sleeper build with something like an ancient dos tower or something from first towers from the 90s.

    My friends case that he bought.You get 2 versions acrylic and non acrylic.Unfortunately he got the acrylic version.It has a blu ray player that i installed.Main thing that gives it away that it's a beast are the fact that it has acrylic you can see the cooler.It is the Biggest cooler i ever installed.It's a semi sleeper.

    have you tried the sabrent rocket nvme? go on amazon, find the 1tb, select the white label for a big discount. 1tb is 109$ no difference in the performance or model. just diff color label lol. unlike white label hard drives. its actually just the color. not many want white so its cheaper. it does 3200mbps and its super super reliable and fast!

    Not the worst 16x16 case you can get but it definitely has flaws. I have used it a few times. Cable management does suck. If your power supply is too big you have to route your power cables through the drive bay. Do not even attempt to remove the front, if you want to add a 2nd front fan just use 2 screws and 2 zipties. Would not even bother with any optical drives. The ribbon cable for the front panel is garbage that I only use the 2 wires for the power button from it. On the plus side the drive bay is not to tall keeping you from installing 2 graphics cards.
