I personally love houses with a no-shoe policy. I think it’s an sign of respect for both parties, and it takes the edge off a creates an atmosphere of relaxation and settling in. With it being summer and sandal season, I’ve been going in bare feet at others’ houses and shoes have to come off at the door, but being barefoot is the best thing on earth!

I'm originally from Hawaii, everyone removes their shoes no matter your culture, ethnicity, age and so forth. Not removing your shoes is a sign of not having consideration and respect. Not to mention it's incredibly unsanitary. My thinking is, I would not want to dirty up a home that I was so graciously invited to visit.

As I was viewing your video, it brought back memories of our basket of slippers at the door. Back home it is a given to remove one’s shoes. Where I live now, not so much.

Having a blended culture family, it is always expected that you take your shoes off right inside the door. You can always notice the pile of shoes there, and assume that’s what’s expected. Having a little bench is perfect!

Since the pandemic more and more of my friends have asked that shoes be removed when visiting. I too have initiated this practice. When I arrive I look for clues as to their wishes. If they are shoeless or in slippers I automatically take off my shoes. If I am in doubt I will ask. Now that it is summer I carry a pair of footie socks in my purse so I am not barefoot.

Last night we had some very close friends over for dinner and my friend took her shoes off at the door and hand brought little Footes little socks she put on. I’m actually fine if she wanted to wear her shoes but she said no she was more comfortable in her little socks. I love what you said, read the room and always ask!

When I go into someone's home. I don't take my shoes unless they ask me to do so. If they do that works for me because I hate wearing shoes! That's a great idea about asking! It will then give me an excuse to take them off if they say yes.
In my house I never wear shoes or socks and I'm always maintaining my feet. If they are not perfect that's ok I'm not embarrassed. Besides cleanliness I don't understand how somebody could be comfortable with wearing shoes in their own home.

Many people, and many cultures feel exactly the same way as you! I am typing this from Japan, I am on a visit to understand the culture more thoroughly. I will tell you I bought all new socks before I came here, LOL because, of course, shoes are taken off before you enter places. You must have on socks. No one wants to see your bare feet here, it’s disrespectful.

Never ask a guest to take any part of their wardrobe off aside from asking to hang their coat, if they choose to. My rule never go to a house where they ask you to remove your shoes as well. Extremely rude to ask someone to remove their shoes and walk around with socks. The older generation knows this. These people worship their homes and are very materialistic.

Koreans put a lot of effort into cleaning their homes, so they always pick up food that falls on the floor and keep it clean enough to eat.
It would be very unpleasant for an outsider to enter such a clean place with their shoes off.
Differences in ethnic characteristics and culture!

  • @blueapple4044

A better solution, don't invite people over to your house. I wonder if I can ask my customers to take off their shoes when they enter my business. You know because it's cleaner and it won't scratch my precious floors and dirty my precious carpet. Only the dumbest people on earth do this but they don't know they're dumb, this is the problem..
