"Funny thing is, this means you've always known how I was going to die. All the time we've been together, you knew I was coming here. The last time I saw you, the real you, the future you, I mean, you turned up on my doorstep, with a new haircut and a suit. You took me to Darillium to see the Singing Towers. What a night that was. The Towers sang, and you cried."
"You wouldn't tell me why, but I suppose you knew it was time. My time. Time to come to the library. You even gave me your screwdriver. That should have been a clue."
River Song - Forest Of The Dead
GPWrestling ruclips.net/video/t-wgLFj6bbI/видео.html
I think the most beautiful part of this episode is the end text; "And they both lived happily ever after." It's beautiful and emotional because firstly the "ever after" part disappears, because no, they didn't live happily ever after, only for 24 years. Next the "And they both lived" part disappeared, because we know that they didn't both live in the end, for River went to the Library. The only thing left is was word "happily", and I just teared up when I saw that, they didn't have forever, they didn't both make it in the end, but they were happy, while it lasted.
Excuse me while I go sob in the corner over my OTP.
I think I shipped River with Capaldi's doctor more than Smith's which was surprising. They were so beautiful together 💕
Me too.
Yeah, I was kind of like "wait, what?" when they announced this episode title, thinking that, except for the very last chapter of her story, River was basically part of Eleven's tale. Eleven was her Doctor, and I thought it was weird to bring Twelve into it.
And then this episode came out, and I cried. That long look at her as she disputes it.... Capaldi fucking knocked it out of the park.
@@Acorn_Anomaly truly one of the finest actors doctor who have ever casted
As soon as I heard her say the planet was Darillium my mouth dropped, I legit almost cried.
My heart broke
Yeah, I forgot about Darillium, so the screwdriver helped. Lol
I caught it when he talked about his haircut and his new suit
At this point, a rewatch of Silence in the Library/Forest of the dead is quite nice.
Don't forget too this was just before the library episode during David Tennant and Donna noble. She mentioned the last time she saw him he gave her a sonic screwdriver so this was just befire she dies and she never saw Peter capaldi before before when she was in that episode. Maybe go back and watch it? a lot of stuff makes more sense now :)
forest of the dead is the title of that episode. after those 24 years she goes to the library and meets tennant
Yes. Rivers story went full circle in this episode. Her Story was really well written!
The reason River used a sonic trowel is because her grandfather had a trowel.
River has shown up after the timeline of the library. She was in the Name of the Doctor as a kind of ghostly image, and hinted that she may have survived beyond the library at the end x
but not as real person as she dies in the library and no she not escaped that
O I am sorry I did not realise you were a Doctor Who writer and made up the rules. Sorry that was sharper than meant, her body died in the library not consciousness. I did say ghostly image, River hinted at the end that she may have survived beyond the library. There is a definite opening for further stories with River, tv or book or audio x
Well, she is a time lady, so if they wanted they could have done anything with her. Master was being revived from worse things.
Dean Nolan it was said, she stayed as a backup in the driver of the library computer, was the backup what we saw in the name of the doctor as a "ghost" but not the real river, just a mirror
It was said? When, by whom, I never saw that in the show. People are determined to kill of River once and for all. The point I got across was River has had an appearance beyond her timeline at the library, 100% true whether a ghostly image, 'backup River', or any other incarnations people want to invent. If they have done it once they can do it again.
That moment when the Doctor says "I haven't laughed in a long time" and you realize it's been 4.5 Billion years since he laughed.
Yes! I've been waiting so long for this reaction. :) I loved your faces when River said, "I've only seen the face".
What did you girls thought about The Doctor's final speech?
It was packed with symbolism.
River saying that the Doctor doesn't care about her makes me so damn sad 😢
Now rewatch River's death in Forest of the Dead. Everything she said right before she died, happened in this episode. Darillium, the Singing Towers, River's sonic screwdriver, the Doctor crying. There's even a video where someone edited clips of this episode to River's final moments. Steven Moffat is a genius!... And a monster!
River: "You're so doing those roots!"
Doctor: "The roots of the sunset? I'll have to speak with the stars themselves"
I hate this episode...emotionally speaking.
Liam Catterson "No you don't."
You should go back and watch her final speech in forest of the dead
Now river goes to the library
ChaosAssassin Well not just yet there's still the first two Diary Of River Song sets and Doom Coalition which take place from River's perspective in between Darillium and The Library
Zak Rosenfeld but that doesn’t make sense. She said in the library that the last time she saw him was at the towers
She said "The last time I saw you, the real you, the future you". All of those events are out of sync in terms of The Doctor and River's relationship, especially since Ten doesn't know who River is. So that would count as spoilers for the Doctor.
The WerewolfF They find ways around that
The WerewolfF in Doom Coalition and Diary Of River Song 1 and 2 she has her Sonic Screwdriver. Plus she asks Eight's companion Helen Sinclair which Doctor has come up, specifically she asks if he's come as "The Magician, The Spiv or The Geography Teacher" referring to 12, 10 and 11 respectively and since she knows who 12 is that places her appearance after Darillium, and then she has an "oh shit" moment when Helen points out that Eight is The Doctor she is with cause she knows The Doctor can't know her at that point. They find a way around it in the following story with River's nun disguise which disguises her to look like someone else allowing her to interact with Eight without disrupting the time lines
Love your reaction! :)
Peter Capaldi acted amazingly in this episode :D When he looked at River as she realized he was The Doctor, you could feel the love and care he felt for her in that moment, as if he was saying "Oh my love, how wrong you have been..."
And especially at the end, when he tells her they have 24 years to spend together, his eyes radiate love and tenderness, like his heart is pouring out to her.
p.s Amazon Prime offers a free trial, which you can cancel whenever you're done. Plus its only $99 a year. Which honestly is better than having to pay every month :) Also, if you went beyond the free trial time period, you could just split it and each pay like $49.50 each, and cancel whenever you dont feel like using Prime anymore. Just trying to help
Recommendation: Chill
I suggest duct tape. But people would yell at me for being "insensitive" for wishing that, which is usually every video that she is in.
How do we know River’s relationship with the Doctor is different? He settles down with her. He travels with other people, but he lives with River. This was the end (?) of the greatest arc in tv history, seven years from Silence in the library to Husbands... and I was so happy Alex got a proper send off (she didn’t really in Name of the Doctor). As for fanfic, well 24 years is a long time, what’s the betting River got pregnant?
I bet there are little doctors running around in the universe. It would be so cute!
Time Lords don't reproduce sexually.
Well, I don't think that's necessarily canon. Half time lord half child of the tardis. Not sure how the tardis would respond to become a grandmother though.
That was before the curse of sterility on time lords was broken. Now they can reproduce sexually. But I think looms are still most active for of their reproduction.
The Doctor can dance.
And Looms can officially do one cos that whole thing was... Nah. Just nah.
One of the top ten, if not the top, "Hello, Sweetie" moments in the series.
Ah, the old River Song has been saved sonic screwdriver. The Library awaits you sweetie.
Remember in he Library 2 parter with Tennant, when River's screwdriver had her brain pattern scanned in it? Here 12 scans her the minute he gives it to her so she can live on in the database.
"The Doctor loved Clara the way that he loved Rose" but... he didn't. That was like the whole point of their relationship lmao
The Doctor loved Clara the way he loved *Donna*. A best friend, someone who was willing to call him on his BS when he needed it, and who could remind him of what being The Doctor really means.
Donna at Pompeii, Clara at the Moment...
The doctor loved Clara much more than Rose
Rose was more of a.... post PTSD emotional attachment for the doctor.
Their relationship is open to interpretation, it's complex and has been debated in the fandom a lot and in reviews/ articles if they were just best friends or if something more was there but if they believe the Doctor loved Clara the way he loved Rose then, that's their opinion. Jenna confirmed Clara had feelings for the Doctor and Moffat confirmed the Doctor loved Clara in a romantic way but you can disagree and still interpret it whatever way you want.
7pitpat7 Nah
She had a sonic trowel!
Grandpa Brian Williams would be so proud!
i thought that since she didnt know any doctors after 11 at the start of this episode then they cant meet again. but i just remembered that river herself has met all of the other doctors, she just used a disguise or wiped his memory afterwards, so her past self could still meet the doctor after this he would just have to not let her know that she is the doctor
it MUST be the last time, we know that the next time they meet is in the library where she "dies".
so all apperances after it, can only be ghosty shadows not the real deal
Finally got to this episode, after binging your Doctor Who playlist.
Honestly, I would be fine if this was the final retirement of River's character. It's such a perfect ending I need to just let this be her farewell so I can stop stressing over giving her some sort of meaningful resolution.
I loved that "There's a song" line, at the end of the episode.
I wanted to see your reaction to his reaction to entering the TARDIS, and it did not disappoint.
You can catch plenty more adventures of River in the Big Finish audio series 'The Diary of River Song' in which she gets to meet four earlier Doctors.
You finally met me! Nardy
Dr Who is on Netflix, but im not sure there are christmas specials :)
( You're right btw, it's the same street they used for the episode " face the raven " )
MsSharondenadel Netflix still is missing a couple of episodes as well as the latest series.
and know it makes sense what she say in the library: and you showed up at my door, with a new suit and a new face, and you gave me your screwdriver and you cried, i tought it was the moment but you knew, that that was our last night, that it was my time to come to the library
Go back and watch "silence in the library" AFTER watching this one... completely changes the dynamic.
Side note, "Silence" in the Library? Think about it...
During Matt Smith's era, River really began to grind my gears. Whenever she was there, it was always shoved down our throats about how much she knows about the Doctor, and what timeline she's in.
This episode kept it simple, and her character seemed a lot more in line with the River in The Forest Of The Dead.
Actually, the Doctor always knew he had Brandi in there. His first incarnation and other 2 from classic who used it to serve people if they needed some encouragement.
So many payoffs in this episode! Out of all of them my favorite might be that it was Capaldi's doctor that said "Hello Sweetie" first! And then River kept using the line on 10 and 11!
Docwho 10th actually not. She’s already used it earlier in her timeline.
Canonically this is after all 11th adventures and just before the library so that's not the case unfortunately
My favorite 12th Doctor episode
One of my all time favorites. A perfect episode. Delightful reaction!
Best "Hello Sweetie" ever
River carries a trowel, just like her grandfather.
My thing is how did River not notice the added lighted roundels on the wall lol. They weren’t in smiths Tardis
Briana? And Torchy?
Our babies in the same room?
I NEED THIS NAOW!
24 years is more than John and Delenn got.
River said that The Doctor reminded her of her second wife. What if the second wife turns out to be the 13th Doctor?
Why would River of met the 13th doctor before 12th, time travel is weird lmao
Perhaps River reminds the Doctor of his proper, real wife from home, long, long ago?
Well, I saw her (Alex Kingston) at an Ikea in Burbank, so there's that...
If you want more River, Big Finish's audio play series starring Alex Kingston (The Diary of River Song) is currently headed into its fourth and fifth seasons. The first two were alright, but season three was amazing and tied heavily into River's story arc from the Matt Smith era.
Yeah we waited a year between this Christmas special and the next one
Aside from quite the kidish aspects of this episode (it is a Christmas special), I actually quite like it as a whole.
If you check out the Big Finish Dr. Who audio dramas, we get to have River react to all the other Doctors!
Easily my favorite Doctor Who Christmas special so far! I had my doubts about the casting of Matt Lucas but he worked out great.
There's several series of The Diary of River Song on Big Finish, plus she bumps into number 8 on the Doom Coalitions a fair bit.
Peter Capaldi and Alex Kingston are just awesome in this episode. My favourite Christmas special!
Love your reactions to this amazing episode! :)
At last! Now I'm happy.
No that's it for River, she can't show up again, this story was designed to be her last appearance. The next time she's the doctor is when she dies and an earlier River can't show up because at this point she hadn't seen any faces past 11. So this is it. It was even the plan for this to be it
but her consciousnesses survived in the silence in the library episode.
An emotional and fun wrap up to River’s story
one doctor who reactors i do like are blind wave they dont spew crocodile tears at the right moments or talk over important speeches they actually watch and are actually invested in the epsiode as true fans and at the end they go over the notes they made and discuss in a reactor table
Many good Big Finish River Song audio plays out now.... Well worth the download...
I love this episode because of the ending, but I do love the next one even more. Just rewatched it again today!
I have no idea what your ability is to stay spoiler-free. So I have no idea how to convey that Alex Kingston is inspired to figure out how to come back another time. Or that I've thought a bit about how it could work. The Library River is almost TOO obvious, but I think she counts.
This is probably my favorite Moffat Christmas special.
24 years sure. And they have a Tardis.
One night and next the library.
I love how she had such great chemistry with 11 and 12
I have been WAITING, :), for you 2 to get to this episode. It is the long time SAD fulfillment of a promise made way back in a library where a MUCh younger doctor met a strange woman who knew his name!
I hope that you both have wonderful holidays!
BTW here in London it's still hot... there's so much to see in London so I hope that you can make the most of it.
Oh just to add there's a demonstration in central London on the 13th of July against the visit of trump, if you still happen to be around then
The show is on netflix I think. I love this episode
I waited like that for game of thrones lol didn't watch until last year which was nice because didn't have to wait between each season. But now I'm with everyone else waiting for the next haha
5:22. Lmao! Go for it, Peter!!!
I love you guys.
Of course, I also say that to Sesskasays and Chiquegeeks
My ex girlfriend was a huge Dr Who fan, when we watch this episode i was trully happily. :)
Greg Davies is so cool (the baddie) in Cuckoo and Man down series’s.
I knew you two would love this episode. You'll like the next one, but I think this one was the better of the two Christmas specials. The next one is good, though. And yes, it did suck that we had to go through 2016 without any Doctor Who until that Christmas. Thanks for letting us know that te next reactions won't be for a few weeks. Its best to know in advance.
"24 Years to make this not the last night" time to revisit the series 4 Library episodes ;)
her consciousness is still alive. so she could probably appear in future episodes
Justinhulk yes but I'm more pointing out that they might have forgotten about that
Your Doctor Who reactions are always well worth the wait. Hope you enjoy your visit to my home city of London and hope you'll upload a video of your time here. It'll be great to see what you think of the place. At the moment we're having a heatwave. All the very best to the both of you 👏👍.
The best hello sweetie of them all.
"...the Fun Way..."
Like we're going to say anything. ;)
Ah, this episode. My heart. MY HEART!!!!!
10:13
Doctor... I don't feel so good...
"The Doctor loves Clara the way that he loved Rose" YES, and even more than that! I can't believe some people still don't get Twelve and Clara's romantic bond, so THANK YOU for noticing and pointing it out 👏
i never shipped 11th and river, but 12th and river looks great together
Agreed I didn't ship 11 and river he just seemed to immature for her but 12 and river have great chemistry
Is that my heart that's flying through that open window? :'(((((
There, there, sweeties. It will be okay ......
Sadly this probably is the last we'll see of River...this is right before she dies, and she didn't know about any of his future faces, so she'll never meet 13 or anyone after. Never say never as this is Doctor Who, but I have a feeling this is a wrap on her
she could of met the 13th doctor but she never revealed it to her.
Torrenting should be not a crime
Terrarium TV you can watch everything for free
We had to wait 16 years for a season 27 ( season1)

Such a great reaction 🥹
So technically the doctor lived with river till she died?
lived with her until the night ended which was 24 years on that planet, then she went the library to die.
It's episodes like this that I really enjoy seeing you all's reactions. I personally can't stand River Song and don't really enjoy any episodes involving her ( this one being a rare exception) so it's cool to see how people who actually got enjoyment out of her character react to the episode. Nice to know the episode does work if the audience is receptive to it
You should find some most recent and longest video on RUclips that covers all River moments, and react to it.
WHAT. OREGON. GURL HIT UP GROUND KONTROL.
Lmao she won't she went to the library with David tenant
finally :D
There's not enough booze or pills to let me chill while watching this episode.
I think River Song is dead. Every time the Doctor meets her, she knows more about him, but he knows less about her. Just like Matt Smith's Doctor. Same showrunner. Same point. I just really hope to see both females together, but I doubt it. Female Doctor meets River Song.
0:12 Season 12?!
4:43 HA
