Multiair is incredibly simple once you understand what it does, unfortunately your average parts changer doesn't understand the process of elimination to diagnose it. Injectors have become very reliable, to the point that it would be my absolute last guess. Scummy dealer shops are why people stop buying their cars because they assume $3000 was actually needed to fix it, when all it needed was a few hours of diag and $100 worth of seals. Had a 2020 Stelvio as a company car. Had problems with cold start misfires and one too occations had to drive 100km before a restart woke the last cylinder. Dealer would not diagnose the car if I couldn’t bring it to them with the car missing while there since the claimed that it is impossible to retrieve history codes from an Alfa. Complained to the leasing company who owned the car they said, no problem to drive the car with the misfire and that if I took it to the dealer and they could not find the problem whitin 2 hours my employer would be billed for the failed diagnostic. After that I concluded that I would never on an Alfa of my own since the dealer in my area are so incompetent.
@@nilsutt As iv posted before,it’s the dealer who’s unreliable, not the Alfa.. All major car makers now own their own service centres . why ?
it’s to cut out all the rubbish dealerships and control Eddt
@@nilsutt The Alfa dealer network has always been rubbish.
So has every dealer network until the manufacturer started to run and own the dealer network them selfs.
Interesting that the multiair unit is repairable - here, in Australia, they just swap out the whole unit at any signs of a fault.
I want to know why they couldn't check the injectors on an oscilloscope? Saves removing them. Interesting video.
@@andrewlace They don’t have one, if the computer says it’s no.4 cly. misfire … let’s just jump to conclusions…. to change over two injectors takes 20 mins on this model… the agent charged 2 or 3 hours.
when I get an engine with GDI injectors… and it’s high mileage I know one will be faulty… not enough flow on one cly…or too much.
in the last month …had a 1750 cc engine with one injector over fuelling,
and 2 x. 2200cc engines with one injector under fuelling …
I think it’s down to rubbish petrol…. and bad fuel filtering .
Alfaman is my hero!
£2,000 and it still isn’t fixed. What was the reaction of the dealer? How could they let the car go out like that?
How did a car as reliable as an Alfa Romeo even break in the first place?! Shame to see the car developing a fault just due to the use of poor quality O-rings during manufacture. Not unusual for a dealer to throw the parts canon unfortunately, they make margin on the parts too after all.
Mechanical engineers are a rare breed these days. Part changers are plentiful.....
Contempt is the word your looking for ! Mind you, it's probably best not to mention those who actually design the cars nowadays 🤦
There is the problem with "good" mechanics at dealer not only in England, in Polen too. Only thinking person can be fit for that work. For exchangers thank you.
As a dealer you should know that the multiair could be the problem. the multiairs in the guilietta ... also had a lot of problems with the multiairs
thanks for comment, multiairs run on clean oil pressure…
did oil change on Brera 2200 to day. Always been dealer serviced.
Customer fed up with his dealers prices, Tough to open oil filter, and the gunge we found in the oil filter..which has never been changed,if this was a multiair ,the multiair unit would have been destroyed…. lucky it was a GM ENGINE. Eddy
Good man, no parts cannon for him
This is the problem today. The “mechanics” at dealerships cannot do not want to do diagnostics like this gentlemen. This is how most mechanics use to be, now we have people that can change plugs and oil which I can do myself
Which tool or parameter of the diagnostic tells you which cylinder is misfiring please?
@@lauriecooke4881 the computer screen tells us which cylinder is not working properly. It measures electrical activity and output and in some cases will cut fuel supply to the faulty cylinder. Regards Eddy
I meant to say the cars computer ( ECU ) will cut fuel to the faulty cylinder and our lap top can see what’s happening and what the cars ECU is doing ad what faults the cars ECU has recorded as faults. Eddy
👍
Multiair is incredibly simple once you understand what it does, unfortunately your average parts changer doesn't understand the process of elimination to diagnose it.
Injectors have become very reliable, to the point that it would be my absolute last guess.
Scummy dealer shops are why people stop buying their cars because they assume $3000 was actually needed to fix it, when all it needed was a few hours of diag and $100 worth of seals.
Personally on Chevy V8's I have seen dried pickup tube gaskets go bad and cause low oil pressure.
People put in long blocks when all it needed was a $20 gasket and 1 hour of time.
What would cause the o-ring to deteriorate like that?
@@stephencavanaugh8377 Thank you for your comments.
I honestly think that oil/filter changes were just not done and the agent who carried out the service kept the oil filter or the oil or an owner missed a service.
@@AlfamanGarageServices Multiair filter ??? Commonly not replaced
Hello Alfaman would this issue cause a sputter and misfire code for cylinder 3 if this part was faulty? I have new spark plugs, no smoke out the exhaust and fresh oil change and the car sputters at full throttle and causes misfire code and limp mode..
@@Ju-gq4qt I take it your car is a 2000 multiair on a Late Alfa…
if so Yes it could be
not plug or coil as they have been swopped around or replaced.
ck the injectors. not because I think it’s an injector …but because I need to eliminate possible faults… do compression test. …. swop injector no 3
with no. 2 swop coils. no 1 with no. 3. Do a comp resin test. start up again and see which cly. is faulty. if still no 3. it could be the multi air fault…
still have other tricks. your location…
regards. Eddy at Alfaman
mechanics are a dying breed, nowadays you can consider yourself lucky if you find a good glorified parts swapper
Why not explain the function of that multi-air dingy? I’ve never heard of such part before!
It's a variable valve lift and variable valve duration system that completely replaces the throttle body -- it's very clever! It's used on many Fiat-derived Fiat Chrysler engines.
@@william1389 You have a standard cam to operate the exhaust valves,
and you have solenoids to lift the inlet valves , this gives the engine a super performance ,less moving parts, the 1400 cc version is a flying machine, gives 2000 power….
But u have to change oil and filter 8000 miles as u don’t want the multi air unit to gunge up … and have seen the 1400 unit self distruct, through
bad servicing with wrong oil and low oil.
@@AlfamanGarageServices Koenigsegg experimented with all valves controlled by solenoids. Don’t know how the story goes on that. Freevalve I think it was called.
Hey how you doing Mr.alfaman I have a 2018 stelvio my vehicle continue to show auto start and stop and service electronic throttle I can take the battery cable off it clears it until I put it in drive and it returns back to limp mode can you help me
How do we buy these O rings?
I know that I am well off, but honestly not a single soul to ask and get a meaningful answer...
Are the 2.2 diesel engines any good? Since I was a child my father always loved and owned a diesel because he loved the ticking sound and fuel efficiency, so I continued down this road and since my first car I always had a diesel.
It is a shame to look at a diesel Alfa, I know, but somehow this petrol ones don't work for me somehow...
Sir you are my man till I'll drive.
We just discover a treasure.
Dealer made not only a robbery but he also "rape" the client.
Dealer is disgusting
Question hopefully you can help me I recently got P0299 code for under pressure turbo, have you ever felt with this? Or anyone else
Dealerships love spending customers money. Cretins!
Can you tell the mileage of that car?
54k at last mot
Is this a common issue? I have a 2022 Stelvio with 19k miles on it. Saving this in case a similar issue arises. Thanks very much
@@cbarber5366 Not common , make sure u ck. oil level, make sure you get oil and filter changed before the recommended time.
this engine demands you put quality oils and filters as it runs on oil pressure … And use quality fuels. Shell,Esso , BP and use E5
regards Eddy
@@AlfamanGarageServices thanks for the advice. I'm doing oil/filter changes every 5k
Not only alfa but absolutely every car manufacturer nowadays uses the cheapest of the cheapest cheap plastic in the engines. And every new generation of a golf or civic they charge you 5k more.
Can a client somehow protect him/herself against dealership's stupidity and carelessness? Is there a real law in EU for this, that says, that you don't have to pay for labor/parts, when dealership's best work is by guessing changing parts and not proper fault finding using logic and diagnostics (read: skills)?
It seems that these days, dealerships are staffed by mechanics who are only part swappers.
the Multiair. it happens with all the multiair engines.
Part 2?
Stealerships are there to make money, Independent car mechanics are there to fix cars.

Process of old fashioned deduction and proper mechanic…..not a TECHNICIAN! Nothing shows on the laptop Sir so you don’t have a fault. Over the last 10 years that’s happened to me with a Landrover and 2 AMG c63s. Sad,sad, sad.
@@24bellers20 There is a fault… the person who’s doing the job is at fault, has no brain to think out the fault and was beaten to find the fault.

It is Alfa Romeo so they look good but is very unreliable and it shows by low sales numbers.
Not true--my 2018 Giulia Ti is running amazing at 51,000 miles. Keep it maintained and you'll avoid most problems!
