Alfaman Garage - repairing with rear boot wiring on Alfa Romeo Spider ‘08 Part 01
Been thinking about getting my first Alfa. This one is out of the running.
Sorry for the hassle but a differential pressure test would show a cracked valve or head in a minute. Not to mention more advanced and modern diagnostics way ✌️
A la fin qu'elle était le problème ? Merci
Wow what an absolute nightmare for you. I started out with guys like you back in 78 im now 62 and do not enjoy modern stuff anymore due to crazy design and poor quality. Wishing you all the best from my little workshop here in France. Looking forward to the next update.
Washer bottle bracket is rusted here. Why oil it up? Its gone.
@@Romulan112 we have s hand in stock. we are in Rayners Lane in Harrow. we have sold 4 brackets so far and I have repaired quite a few. We wax oil whole cars…not just this bracket. We have changed over 25 front and rear sub frames on all types of 939 Alfa models. Make sure you put screen wash liquid in the washer bottle so it does not freeze , expand and crack the plastic bottle as well. Regards Eddy at Alfaman.
A nightmare indeed ! I despair with the design & poor engineering these days. The simplest engineering tends to be the most reliable. Best of luck anyway it's an interesting job for us viewers & on the positive side the owner is lucky to have you on the job. Regards Paul
It would also be interesting to hear your opinion about the whining noise these engines make (clearly audible when you rev the engine). I tried a few different cars at the dealership for comparison, and they all had this strange whining noise. I didn’t like that noise, so the dealer decided to replace parts under warranty for €5,000 (including the labor, balance shaft, oil pump, and more). However, the whining noise didn’t go away, the car still running without issues
What’s the mileage of that Stelvio?? Multiair engine is notorious for service. Like many italians say, KEEP OUT from the turbo, keep it simple. Long live FIRE 8v/16v🇮🇹🇮🇹
@@dusankocisevic6823 60000 miles on the clock Very disappointing engine. The engine might not be that bad but the total idiotic arseholes who write the service schedules have a lot to answer for. If you get a new engine and u don’t change the oil/filter for 20000 miles the engine life has been cut. If u purchase an expensive car for £40000 plus. WHY WOULD YOU NOT LOOK AFTER IT PROPERLY ….
True…. my carguy always insists to do a oil change in 10000km and belts and waterpump in 5 years, nomatterwhat. Like You said it, Once upon a time it was easy to do a engine service, compare with today’s engine tech and service manual philosophy🙄🙄 CHEERS🍺🍺
@@AlfamanGarageServices exactly. Mine Giulia have almost 200.000 miles (2.2 diesel) and l change oil every 6.000 miles. The oil is at the limit of lifespan. Already so carboned that it stay on fingers. There is no way that oil can last scheduled interval. That's why the car still working ok.
I own a mito two new cambelts I have the oil changes every six months with multi air engine … low mileage.. but excellent.
Naturaly aspirated engines would be much better. A 3 point something V6 and a 4 point something V8 petrols in these Giorgio platform cars would be the best. But unfortunatelly, due to politicians... Ops, I mean emmission regulations, they need to use small(er) turbo engines. I don't like them. Turbo means poor throttle response, more thermall stress on the oil and many other undesirable effects. I would rather stick to my 159 2.2 JTS 185 hp manual then get a Giulia 2.0 TB 200 hp automatic...
What an interesting video. Knock on wood nothing will happen to my 2.2 Diesel Giulia. Cheers from France.
Head gaskets are a known problem for MY 2016-2020. Stelvio/Giulia 2.0L
@@nexushexus4365 thank u for the post… found so far 1/ Multi air unit. no 4 o. ring in 3 bits 2/ turbo unit. play in both directions. up and down and in and out. and oil leak. 3/. oil in intake manifold 4/ pressure leak from exh. valves. 5/. can’t get the front crank pully nut off. done up to 200 newton meters. why so tight. answer. .. . Alfa no longer employ engine designer’s only engine bodger… heated pully up. still won’t come off. 3 hours waisted so far and still not off. regards and thanks. Eddy
@@AlfamanGarageServicesoil in intake is from that crankshaft ventilation system....nmy Giulia is also full of oil ... 0w-30 selenia is problem I think... Interval should be waaaaaaaay smaller than 15000 Kms.... Or they say 10000 miles... I think max 7500 Kms for replacement max
Me vabbè so capit
Dear Eddy, this is Andrea from Italy. I'm a reciprocating plunger pump designer for a famous Italian multinational company. From my experience as a designer of piston pumps, I offer an overhaul service of Multiair block, and, if necessary, parts replacement. Do you have a broken Multiair block? Would you be interested in sending it to me? Thank you and congratulation for your channel. ing. Andrea O.
super I also have an Alfa Romeo 156, only 2.5 busso and turbo
Excellent very interesting..
thats the old school mechanics find the problem not just swap parts and hope you can solve the problem.your a honest man god bless we need prople like you
Multiair is incredibly simple once you understand what it does, unfortunately your average parts changer doesn't understand the process of elimination to diagnose it. Injectors have become very reliable, to the point that it would be my absolute last guess. Scummy dealer shops are why people stop buying their cars because they assume $3000 was actually needed to fix it, when all it needed was a few hours of diag and $100 worth of seals. Personally on Chevy V8's I have seen dried pickup tube gaskets go bad and cause low oil pressure. People put in long blocks when all it needed was a $20 gasket and 1 hour of time.
I will drop the mito and tonale in .
So was the moral of the tale , petrol engine like to have petrol.😮😮
It was not properly check from previous garage which this car is sitting there for months, we make it work in day 1.
@AlfamanGarageServices My comment was not meant as an insult . Your proper and methodical fault finding brought this car back to life
Part 2?
Iconic mint Alfa ..
Immaculate
Question hopefully you can help me I recently got P0299 code for under pressure turbo, have you ever felt with this? Or anyone else
Fabulous colour ❤
How do we buy these O rings?
good luxury cars even for the mto
It's not hip hop style, you idiots!
Top man, dealerships need more guys like this to properly diagnose and repair cars. Problem is they won't pay them the money there worth. 35 years in the motor trade from apprentice to technican to service advisor workshop controller to manager...experienced it all . Pay people what they are worth.
Hello Alfaman would this issue cause a sputter and misfire code for cylinder 3 if this part was faulty? I have new spark plugs, no smoke out the exhaust and fresh oil change and the car sputters at full throttle and causes misfire code and limp mode..
@@Ju-gq4qt I take it your car is a 2000 multiair on a Late Alfa… if so Yes it could be not plug or coil as they have been swopped around or replaced. ck the injectors. not because I think it’s an injector …but because I need to eliminate possible faults… do compression test. …. swop injector no 3 with no. 2 swop coils. no 1 with no. 3. Do a comp resin test. start up again and see which cly. is faulty. if still no 3. it could be the multi air fault… still have other tricks. your location… regards. Eddy at Alfaman
I love the way this man cares about the customer. But after 14 Alfa’s I am now very glad with my BEV. It has no injectors, no militair and no O ring 😉
It's not just dealerships! I cut my teeth at an Alfa dealer 40 years ago so the era of the Alfasud, first 33's, 116 Giuliettas etc. Thirty years ago(!), a guy brought an Alfasud 1.5 Ti to me for two front calipers. A well known Alfa specialist from that city in north Somerset/Avon had rebuilt both heads at an astronomical £1200 - twice what the job was worth in 1994 money. The owner was told the car needed new calipers as they would not adjust up. He wasn't convinced, so he brought it along. 30 minutes later, new pads were fitted and the calipers adjusted....on some cars the adjusters worked back to front. Our expert didn't know. The biggest problem was the lack of ooomph and the dreadful gearbox rattle at idle. I did a compression test and it was 160 psi one side and about 70 the other. Yep, the cam timing was wrong by one tooth on the NS bank. An hour later it was all corrected - the car had it's 105 bhp back and as it idled properly now, the gearbox rattle had gone. As ever, you just need to find someone half decent. Very well done of diagnosing this one. I wouldn't know where to start. 😂 I've subscribed!
I’ve bought for my car skf kit without water pump The belt is made in UK All bearings including tensioner made in France Water pump got it separate HEPU made in Germany, has even aluminium rotor I’m from Romania 🇷🇴 I hope it last The kit in the car was genuine Audi (contitech belt and ina bearings) After 9 years and 110.000 km was just perfect Only the arrow in the tensioner slightly under the mark Bought for my wife bmw 118d skf water pump and is made in china I hope it last I bought skf aux belt tensioner and is made in china with slightly play in the bearing Quality it’s going downhill everywhere
@@olindor220 Yes. manufactures don’t care any more ? Or is it pirate parts. Made in far east and boxes in same looking packaging….. Pirate batteries imported all over Europe a few years ago cost the public 1.5 Billion Pounds ….. 5 x 40 foot crates of car bearings were sized by Spanish Police 5 years ago filled with crap bearings in SKF boxes…They were not SKF bearings and not SKF Boxes… all came from far east. REGARDS EDDY
Alfaman is my hero!
Which tool or parameter of the diagnostic tells you which cylinder is misfiring please?
@@lauriecooke4881 the computer screen tells us which cylinder is not working properly. It measures electrical activity and output and in some cases will cut fuel supply to the faulty cylinder. Regards Eddy
I meant to say the cars computer ( ECU ) will cut fuel to the faulty cylinder and our lap top can see what’s happening and what the cars ECU is doing ad what faults the cars ECU has recorded as faults. Eddy
Great video, unfortunately it is typical how many dealers (not all) operate. Profit on number 1. True passionate mechanics like this gentleman actually find and fix the issue for a much better reward; a happy customer that can enjoy his Alfa as it should be. Keep it up sir! 👍

This gentleman is good and an Alfa Romeo man …👍🏻
Great man.
My Grande Punto Tjet has snapped in exactly the same place as I am changing my manifold as it is cracked. Only issue for me is my extractor bit has snapped off inside so I need to grind a hole out now :( In the end I did manage to weld a nut on the end and get it out that way.
Great video once again 👍. Thank you.
@@Paul-899cc Have repaired quite a few of these boxes without removing as the selector cross was not assembled properly with different spacer washers needed. And like this gearbox… no care or love went into this original job so the poor sucker who paid for the original job had to fork out an extra £360 ….
You can't get much simpler engineering either ! Common sense is quite a rare commodity these days 👍. Keep going anyway your doing a great job of things.
This is the problem today. The “mechanics” at dealerships cannot do not want to do diagnostics like this gentlemen. This is how most mechanics use to be, now we have people that can change plugs and oil which I can do myself
I have just found that guy that isn't just a "parts swapping mechanic" and solves problems methodically and efficiently, I m a new sub 😊 I am an electrician who has completely rebuilt a opel vivaro engine on my own, no experience prior. I got a "mechanic " to time the engine as I wasn't confident enough myself, big mistake, with drawings on a PC he timed it wrong and I've wasted €1500 in parts. Very few people out there that deserve to be called a mechanic except for guys like this channel 👍
This is exactly how it's done. Systematic testing of potential failure points. $1 part. Subscribing and liking. Kudos.
Dealership monkeys. They cannot and should not be able to call themselves " technicians " or even " mechanics " as sll they do is throw parts ar the cars hoping it eill fix the problem.
Can a client somehow protect him/herself against dealership's stupidity and carelessness? Is there a real law in EU for this, that says, that you don't have to pay for labor/parts, when dealership's best work is by guessing changing parts and not proper fault finding using logic and diagnostics (read: skills)? It seems that these days, dealerships are staffed by mechanics who are only part swappers.
Even the pictures are oldschool B/W from analogue 📸
Dear Sir As an Alfa collector,I salute and respect you and your professional atitude.
@@andyshaylovsky3566 Thank u for your kind post. you get out what u put in. we are busy most of the time… and I don’t spend money on advertising, and I get cars for repairs from all over the country and a few from Europe to fix as well. Drive safe, stay well. regards Eddy
Wonderful tech! This man knows his stuff!!! Multiair is actually very reliable. But needs some TLC. And this man figures it out. I have such a great mechanic in the Netherlands too. (Homan Bedum). Mechanics like this are worth their weight in gold. Dealerships only want to sell cars (the majority), and many brands dont back their customers up with service or good quality anymore either. So great mechanics become even more important.
@@pwsonline MULTI-AIR IS NOT RELIABLE… WHY… ITS BECAUSE YOU ARE RELYING ON AGENTS DOING THERE JOB PROPERLY…AND WE ALL UNDERSTAND THEY DONT…. MARK UP YOUR OIL FILTER TO SEE IF THE GARAGE CHANGES THE OIL FILTER. POOR QUALITY FUEL…. WRONG OIL USED…. AND WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WOULD PURCHASE A CAR THAT DOES NOT HAVE A DIP STICK ….. MULTI-AIR PRODUCES A FANTASTIC AMOUNT OF POWER, AND WITH DIRECT INJECTION PRODUCES EXTRA POWER BECAUSE IT ENABLES THE INJECTORS TO SPRAY EXTRA FUEL INTO THE BALL OF FLAME TO PROLONG FLAME ENDURANCE… BUT… BUT…. THERE IS A BIG DOWNSIDE. CARBON BUILD UP INSIDE THE VALVE CHAMBERS , ON THE VALVE STEMS STOPPING THE SMOOTH OPERATION OF METAL PARTS AND AIR FLOW. IF YOU WANT TO CLEAN OUT THE CARBON BUILD UP YOU HAVE TO STRIP THE ENGINE….. OR INJECT HYDROGEN INTO THE ENGINE AIR FLOW AND THAT LOOSENS THE CARBON BUILD UP. I RUN A WORKSHOP WHICH HAS A HYDROGEN GENERATOR …USED IT OVER 1400 TIMES AND HAD NO COMPLAINTS FROM ANY CUSTOMER. CALL ANY TIME EDDY AT ALFAMAN IN RAYNERS LANE. HARROW
Reminds me of my old man thanks
