Ten fingers two heels two toes all moving independently in perfect control. Surely there is no musical instrument as difficult as this to master. Astounding! Thank you.
OzzieOsgood Learning to play the pedals on a pipe organ is no easy task. Having the right organ shoes is a big plus. Learning to play the organ correctly with two hands and two feet does not come easily. This from a church organist playing a 4 manual organ in a large church.
@@davosales I 2nd this... on a piano you only have 1 keyboard, and 3 pedals to manage. on an organ, you have at least 2 manuals, 32 pedals, expression controls, pistons, toe studs, (if you choose) hand registrations and more.
For some, Christmas is a day; for others, Christmas is a way of life. Thank you, dear Jonathan for reminding some of us... of things eternal. Bravo angel. CVD
Yes I agree with the preceding comments about playing the pipe organ! I have played numerous pipe and electronic models and at one time owned several Estey 2man & pedal models. The most difficult pipe organs were at Central Congregational Church in Galesburg Illinois and at Augustana College Rock Island Illinois. Both locations housed fine Moeller 4 manual and 32 pedal 50 rank + organs. The church's was 1912 with additions and the college's was installed c.1960 in the new Centennial Hall on the campus. It replaced an old pipe organ in Old Main. I started my pipe organ on that organ under Professor McDermott and continued on the new Moeller in Centennial Hall for 4 years. That was also a challenge playing a new pipe organ with more mixtures and bigger pipes than the old model in Old Main. I played my graduation recital in 1963 with the 3rd Chorale by Caesar Franck and that was with my family in the audience! What a thrill that was!! David Nestander Galesburg Illinois 12/27/2020
You are absolutely right! This is a performance of the first order. I listened to it many times until I could comprehend the blessed mind of this remarkable young man, Jonathan Scott. Not only is he an unbelievable virtuoso of the organ, but his musicality is simply Wagnerian, Lisztian, Beethovenian! He is always hopping from one key to another in a way that could leave me grasping for air in the uncharted expansiveness of music...still anchored in tonality, but it is totally free from the bonds of any established tonic! Rarely I would write in such hyperbolic terms when it comes to performers, because there is always some one out there in the ubiquitous world of the Internet, but Jonathan Scott, along with pianist Vladimir Horowitz, or Marc Andre Hamelin, could make me feel so amateurish (dilettante) that I could just stop playing the organ or the piano for a few weeks!
I cant stop hearing it. What a briliant final. I woundnt be astonished when in a 100 years this performance will be remembered and compared with other great composers. Thanks for this wonderful music an sharing ist with us.
I started playing the organ at age of 13. Meanwhile I'm 29 and I think I can play well. But when I hear such great pieces of music, I'm just asking myself: 'what am I doing?' Really, I have to bow to this great performance - Very well done!!!
Whilst it's a little early for Christmas, it's always the right time to hear Jonathan Scott doing what he does best. Tom's expert filming perfectly illustrates just what goes into a performance like this . Ok, you've persuaded me; it's not too early for Christmas!
Jonathan Scott, this is about the 3rd piece I have heard you play. I have always loved the organ as my father was an organist and ive grown up with this magnificent instrument, but you sir are truly amazing and an aboslute master. Thank you for the music.
Hi, Jonathan - Greetings from Lancaster, Pennsylvania USA! I’ve been listening to your Christmas Fantasy the past couple of years and I am absolutely blown away by your tremendous talent and gift of playing the organ! I am an organist too, but I must tell you I just sit in awe of your ability to masterfully play! This just makes my Christmas to be able to listen to this You Tube…it’s absolutely awesome! Thank you for sharing this! Best wishes to you and yours for a blessed Christmas! 🎄
A masterpiece - pure energy, excitement and 'joie de vivre' with some poignant components, everything included a piece of music needs for Christmas. Jonathan must have been in a happy mood when he composed this and J.S. Bach would be thrilled (or envious)? Breathtakingly performed as always, I really love it so much. Not only during Christmas time, it works also great in June (but watch out for the speed cameras when you thoroughly happy drive on the Autobahn while listening to it...📸).
A few days ago, there was a founding seminar for church accompanists, and one person played this song during the special performance time. Fantastic! ^^ in Korea
Natal se aproximando...é sempre bom ouvir estas lindas canções e nos prepararmos para as comemorações do nascimento de Cristo. Jonathan Scott é excelente.
Wonderfully & eclectically festive, and all in the best possible taste, with customary spot-on technique in full service of the material. What a joy! I defy anyone (organist, musician or no) to be jaded about 'yet another Christmas season' after hearing & seeing this
Oh my. Fantastic young lady! Your technique brilliant. Interpretation wonderful. I will be listening to your playing many times. Thank you for posting.
Thank you for sharing this beautiful gift of music with the world! I’m enjoying after Christmas. 👋👍🏼. I can barely hit the correct notes on the pedals, let alone do a whole solo with them! lol
Never before have I seen such footwork-- You are a true Vertuoso -- not one mistake-- I want you to play the Toccata by Camil vanHulse- Ive got the music if you are intrested-? Email me so I can get it to you- NO recording of it as to date-
Ten fingers two heels two toes all moving independently in perfect control. Surely there is no musical instrument as difficult as this to master. Astounding! Thank you.
I think piano is harder. You have to play all the parts without your feet. :-> Having a pedalboard is handy.
Or um... footy....
Plus two heels...
@@TurtleFL He plays piano too, with his very talented brother:

What kind of sorcery was that in Silent Night?
Jesus Christ! Absolutely brilliant. Well done!
This man is a genius!! Keep the Organ performances coming!

An incredibly versatile performer. I have never heard a performance of his that I did not like. He is brilliant a superb artist.
Yes, superb. Never heard such playing and
Silent nicht - unbelievable - awesome.
I heard Jonathan play this live at the Bridgewater Hall. An awesome performance.

It’s against the law to be this brilliant! :). And the organ has a wonderful brilliance in sound itself. What a combination!

Don't be afraid. Only few people can play this. It is very, very difficult to play this arrangement.
