That when you either improvise, or learn that theres three basic ranges (30ft for "good" stuff, 60ft for stuff with "extra effects", and 120ft for straight snipes. Spells with 90ft (or any other range) are more often than not effect spells)

Not having a "show owned books only" is worst. Also in character creation it would be nice to have a way to lvl down without losing the chosen abilities or stuff. Like a way to create lvl 20 characters but start the campaign at lvl 1 and when lvling up you just get the stuff you already choose.

DnDBeyond is great for a DM who wants to enable content sharing with one or more campaigns. DnD Beyond is great for character creation as well. But it is not user friendly in many respects. I have multople campaigns set up with diverse groups of noivice players (as part of an elective course on RPGs that I teach at the high school level) and I have to do training sessions on how to best utilize DnD Beyond. Simply put, DnD Beyond has not been streamlined so as to enable it to be used intuitively by the widest range of ptotential users.

I tend to just keep everyone's character sheets open in separate tabs and click on their spells to check them if needed. As they cast the spell too from their character sheet, Beyond20 automatically sends the spell text to the chat log in Foundry. I would enjoy a good DM screen in the campaign view to avoid dancing through tabs, but really it's already made everything so convenient and easy to run, I hate to complain.

There are so many things that could be improved in the search engine. Unfortunately they are swamped trying to get the new content into the site, as they have to program every single thing.
Just the search monsters alone could benefit from a search for multiattack, search for specific abilities, like surprise attack, from the bugbear, or nimble escape. To be fair, few other more questionably legal sites do this. However, it would come in handy.

Huh, if only there was an online suite of tools for 5th edition content that hosted all the content you needed and was also incredibly easy to use.

Let's not forget open source, publically available and mirrored about 100 times over. ;)

All they would have to do is lookup the most popular search terms with no result and start fixing this.

Google gives you what you are looking for every time from my experience. Hell, you could opt out of ever buying a single book and just google probably everything official from Wizards. 3rd party stuff is a bit of a different story though.

search result guesser algorithms are hard.
All seriousness though, for a paid platform (for the products at least) it should be better.

Is there a way to search by newest when looking through user made content? It always comes up as alphabetical for me.

Sigh, yeah--the lack of fuzzy search really irks me. I hope it's something that gets fixed, soon, as it make searching on the fly a huge pain!

They probably have more than enough money to hire someone to upgrade their search engine. So... why haven't they?

    • @Lycaon1765

They have many other things to do on their plate, such as keeping up with all the content WotC adds, fixing bugs, adding features the userbase wants (such as their most recent update, containers) etc.
"Just throw money at it" isn't exactly possible.

And don't get me started on how the first result for something that appears in the DMG and PHB is a Rick and Morty garbage supplement with the same rule so when you click on it you get told NOPE sorry you don't get to know the encumbrance rules by clicking THIS link, go back and click another.

I hate it when I'm searching for a monster and shows a million different things from content that I don't even have instead of the thing I searched for!

I changed the name in Foundry VTT to “firebolt” just so I’d avoid this issue.

It’s unironically easier to just google search a term and then click the relevant D&D Beyond link lol
