  • Did the Master Chief, the Arbiter, the Rookie, Noble 6, Locke, the Spirit of Fire's crew or Atriox's Banished actually canonically acquire the various collectibles throughout each Halo game? I believe so, here's why.

11:29 another possible answer is that there’s a heretic elite (I think it was revealed in the book Hunters in the Dark) who was recording the conversations between spark and the heretic leader, and was sending this info to his brother, who was still in the covenant at that time. The forerunner design of the terminal could be because that’s just what was available at the gas mine, since the heretics were cut off from the convent. And the reason why these messages ended up in delta halo could be what you suggested, a Sesa sympathizer or maybe the brother of the heretic elite himself, I’m not sure.

Interesting. I read Hunters in the Dark a few years ago but I don’t recall any mention of Sesa. Wasn’t my favorite book though so maybe I just missed it.

10:21 “Master Chief” is literally THE HIGHEST combat rank available in the UNSC Naval Forces. If he were promoted any more, he would be given command of a regiment, which isn’t Chief’s style. If any soldier on the ground has access to a specific piece of intelligence, it’d be Chief.
Solid video! Very interesting and convincing.

I wish Halo Infinite did something more interesting with its audio logs.
My favorite example of this in gaming was the opening of Metroid Prime 2, where Samus is sent to investigate the disappearance of marine platoon on an uncharted alien world.
As you explore the opening area, you find the bodies of the dead marines, almost all of which have their own personal logs. You find the logs out of chronological order, and just as you are starting to piece together the full picture, the same thing that killed the marines starts to come after you.

I agree. The terminals/collectibles in CE, 2, 3, 4, Reach and ODST are far more compelling. Save for the forerunner logs, I liked those a lot. I just wish they would’ve made better use of the location. Zeta Halo has some crazy cool history and they didn’t really tap into it all that much. Imagine finding an audio file of a conversation with the primordial and mendicant bias or something left behind by Chakas. They missed a golden opportunity to help bring that fiction to the more casual Halo audience

Hmm i like your video, a lot of work and thoughts went into it.
The Terminals in Halo3 and ODST are there from the beginning and nothing "highly" important or serious is mentioned in them what would need to talk about asap or to tell some higher ups etc and its also important to differentiate between the games.
As you said in the video, the game is reacting to them in ODST and H3 and they feel organic.
I think the terminals in the Anniversary editions are not looked in from the characters, if they would have they would have talked about it, reacted to it etc.
The reason is the games where designed without them and its makes sense, with them it just makes you ask questions and would be weird.
Cortana was in the PoA until Chief toke her, so the Message from 343 would have been noticed by her, latest when Chief looks at it and "oh there is something, maybe it can help us". I think in the 3rd terminal you see an Elite arm morphed because of Flood infection, if they see that, they would ask questions.
In H2A it would also be weird and doesnt feel like it belongs into it if the Arbiter or Chief acually reading it, Arbiter would see what an Oracle a holy realic would say which is higher than the Prophets.
So my conclusion is the Anniversary edition terminals are for the players, to flesh out the story from the earlier games more and make those old games more understandable what happened between the games and better connecting the strings.
The Halo Wars Blackboxes are also just some lore dumb for those who are interrested but if Sgt Forge would have read them he would asap told the higher ups and they would tell the covs at least to try to disturb them.
After Halo3 in which we get introduced to Terminals they get placed naturally in the future games like in Reach.
Halo4 is a bit weird as we already know from 343, why got those talks get recored from whom and why are they placed there and then disappear and why in that order and then the terminal on the station, in a total other part of the galaxy but is totally in line with the others.
What do chief and cortana benefit from it, "holy cow ancient humans??" but they dont say a word about that .. ? and its never mentioned again ..
All in all, i think if its ALL canon read it would throw up so many questions "how why why not" on so many things.
I still think its a great video and a nice theory, well shown and nice to watch.

Questions don’t negate the possibility though. Just because we don’t see them ask any of the questions in the campaigns, doesn’t mean they don’t. Fireteam Raven is canon and some weird stuff happens in that game that isn’t depicted in either CE or The Flood. New events were added retroactively. The most notable example being Chief taking down a flood pure form during Two Betrayals. Clearly that doesn’t happen in game but it does happen in Fireteam Raven which again, IS canon. So to say “it wasn’t acknowledged in the game” is not a good enough reason to say Chief didn’t find them. Just because they aren’t acknowledged doesn’t mean they’re not canon. The terminals aren’t just for returning players either. They were created in such a way that nothing is spoiled if they’re collected in your first play through. Which would essentially be the same perspective as chief.
Another great example is the story called Palace Hotel that takes place during Halo 2. It’s from the perspective of the chief and isn’t acknowledged at all in the game but it’s still 100% canon. The events are even referenced later in an audio drama that came out before Infinite.
As for Arby, he wouldn’t believe any of their contents, not really. He didn’t believe it when Sesa said it right to his face. It took Tartarus’s betrayal to finally convince him there was something to it. That and graveminds speech I imagine.

My dude! I just stumbled upon your channel by being recommended a few of your Shorts, as I've been on the lookout for some more good Halo lore channels... and I'm so happy I found it.
I love the amount of detail you go into here and your great use of sources and informative, well-spoken delivery makes you one of the better up-and-coming Halo lore channels I've seen.
Between the sheer quality of this video and the awesome tidbits of lore in your Shorts, I'm delighted to have found this channel and have earned an instand sub from me! Looking forward to checking out your other work, please keep this up 😁👌

What is your personal favorite Halo game? Mine is Reach and honestly it's probably only because that was the one I played the most growing up.

    • @Woodyisasexybeast
      @Woodyisasexybeast  Год назад +2

Overall, Reach is my favorite too. For the same reason. The campaign is just so good. I put so many hours into multiplayer back in the day too. Nowadays though, it’s multiplayer has become my least favorite. Jet pack and camo spawns drive me nuts. But it still holds a special place in my heart. Halo 4 and Halo 2 are amazing too. Sometimes I feel like one of them is my favorite. Then I remember how many fond memories I have playing Reach and it ends up at the top of my list.

A little fun fact about Captain Keyes and Master Chief is that in lore. Captain Keyes was there when Halsey first met John. In the movie adaption, Halsey and Keyes go together to find John. So Keyes has known John for a long time. They didn’t interact in the scene, but Keyes is the one told by Halsey to record her and Chief interacting.
Makes things more interesting, since Keyes and Halsey were his parental figures, and Keyes and Halsey had Miranda. Miranda and Chief in a sense share a brother-and-sister dynamic.
Edit: Also another little fun fact, in Halo 3; Mendicant Bias is helping Chief throughout the whole game. It’s just in the background, but as stated in his last conversation with Chief. Mendicant is guiding Chief in the warthog run to help him escape. The proof is that Mendicant is holding the platforms steady for the chief to keep going, he’s giving Chief a stable path to keep going so he can escape. It wasn’t a coincidence that the tiles just blew up and some were perfectly still in position. Mendicant is holding those platforms together for the chief and arbiter.
Edit 2: Also in Halo 2 Mendicant Bias is actually trying to talk to Chief while he's aboard High Charity, it's just hidden in the background noise. So Mendicant has been trying to talk to chief for a while, he even tells chief his name.

I’ve never thought about the brother sister implications regarding John and Miranda. It’s too bad they killed her off before exploring that concept

The odst one is kinda unclear, since i haven't been able to unlock it and i heard you need to play through the game on legendairy. And virgil was upgraded by oni or dare to be much more intelligent before it merged with the engineer..

I’m not sure what you’re trying to say but you don’t have to play through on legendary to see the true cutscene. It’s not unclear because the rookie directly acts based on the things he learned in the terminals.
In also not sure where you get the idea that Vergil was upgraded by ONI. I can’t find any source to back that claim
