Thanks for all the hard work your team does to inform and inspire all of us! The specs on the website say the Mattress is 48" wide. Isn't that a bit tight.....smaller than a double I think? How have you found it?
From a fellow Montanan living in the Magic City, love the videos. The wife and I are starting to get the urge to do some trips with our girls this summer.
That's old stomping grounds for a few of us and one still lives there. With the Pryors, Big Horns, and Beartooths at your back door you will have plenty of adventure. Thanks for watching! Jeff
Great video! IMO it is a great system, but I think at $8800 a pop (for a shorted truck) I'd have to have a very specific need for this type of configuration. I was actually shocked that it doesn't even come with the two floor panels and that those are an additional option.
Y'all gonna do a bathroom episode? Looking a doing a group trip with some of our wife's! And while guys can trek off into the woods, the girls would like something more sanitary. Just curious as to what y'all do when nature calls? Thanks! Love what y'all are doing!! 👍👍
Cassette toilets(permanent installation) and Porta potti are pretty elegant solutions that don't require RV dump stations to empty. Maybe give those a look. Otherwise, just get one of those seats that snap onto a 5 gallon bucket and "rough it."
Weather question... We currently have RTT. On windy nights and during thunder storms being in RTT is less than ideal. How does she handle in wind? Also, after big rain how do you dry it out?
I'd like to know that too. Packing up a damp/wet tent seems like a recipe for a stinky (or eventually ruined) tent. Also, does the moisture then drip down on to the contents of the truck bed below?
Hey there Jeff, so how cold is the rating for the habitat? Obviously I'm not looking to freeze in -40 winters in Canada, but can it handle a normal winter excursion?
GREAT 'SYSTEM'....But i sometimes think companies ignore 'peeps' that NEED All '4 Season' Protection! What about the 'WINTER'?? freezing Temps...at times High Winds.....you'll never be able to 'prop up' that tent unit with HEAVY SNOW on top of it! i challenge Habitat to find Solutions..on expanding their 'sleep systems' for us GUYS that 'deal with' WINTER WEATHER! cheers guys.....
Tim, It's like you are reading my mind! In the near future I will be shooting videos on pre, during, and post trip vehicle maintenance and inspection. The won't release for a couple of months but keep an eye out for them. Thanks for watching, Jeff
hey Jeff I'm 18 and just getting into overlanding and i just bought a project truck 83 bronco 300 i6. and im in the process of building my rig and buying gear, I was wondering what kind of camera and audio equipment you use to document your travel. thanks keep up the good work you you guys have inspired me to do this once I graduate
Tyler Gottwald I have seen Clay respond to a similar comment question that all production gear is top secret sauce. So Jeff and crew is unlikely to respond to questions regarding production gear.
How does the install work on these? I like the design of the install of the Alu Kab version of this where it has a stand you can lift the shell off the truck when you don’t want to look ridiculous going to work with a habitat in your truck bed
Interesting option. Looks like a takeoff of the prototpye Earth Roamer XV-JP. So where does that big sleeping pad go if you can't store it in the tent when you close up?
The mattress is considered to be part of the Habitat and can be stored in place when closed. However is can be removed for cleaning. Sleeping bags, pillows, etc. do need to be removed before closing the Habitat. Jeff
Interesting habitat there. You said it has a weight capacity of 600lbs but also said you can sleep 4 guys in there...I guess that's true as long as one of those guys isn't Clay...sorry, I couldn't help myself. Love the channel!
Anita, Our primary camera is the Cannon C-100 Mark II. It works as a great run and gun camera while still getting quality footage. For smaller projects we have been using the Sony A7s. Stills are captured with the Cannon 5D Mark III. The 5D has been with us for years and it might be the most durable camera on the planet. All glass is Cannon.
Patrick, You are correct in that you cannot store bedding in the Habitat. However we find that because the entire space of the truck bed is still useful for storage there is no shortage of space for sleeping gear. Jeff
Thanks Jeff, Its just a bummer in the sense that packing up and putting out sleeping gear is one task I hate...seems like there should be some room to leave the bed made for maximum convenience, which is after-all what you are paying for with any sleep system (after simple shelter)
Not that we are aware of but Adventure Trailers might have something in the works that we don't know about. Your best resource would be to contact Adventure Trailers. Give them a call or send them an e-mail and they will answer any questions you have. adventuretrailers.com/contact-us/ Thanks for watching!
That's just what I'm looking for what an awesome product how do I get one for free and do advertising for you something that would fit on my Ford Explorer
320lbs is the weight of the entire Habitat. The Habitat is the aluminum topper and tent. Considering a heavy duty topper with a roof rack and comparable sized rooftop tent would be 450lbs + the Habitat is incredibly light for all that it offers. The truck handles the Habitat very well in all driving conditions.
Luke Ackerman Adventure Trailers are the manufacturers of the Habitat. Check out their website and give them a call with any questions. adventuretrailers.com/campers/toyota-habitat/ Thanks for watching! Jeff
ExpeditionOverland ok thanks you wouldn't happen to have any info on the trail for early June would you ? A couple of us are planning on taking it on around that time. The main concern is going to river height in June. Thanks again for your help and what you guys do keep it up.
Jeremy, The 600# capacity is for the cantilevered sleep platform, meaning you can sleep two 300lb people in that space. The sleeping platform over the bed of the trick can carry much more weight. We have had a few nights of sleeping 4 full grown men in the Habitat and it was up for the task. Thanks for watching! Jeff
Mike, The song is Untamed Solitude by Woodrowgerber. This song is not on itunes but he has a lot of music out and we really like what he does. itunes.apple.com/us/artist/woodrowgerber/id604681348?trackPage=1#trackPage Check out the XO soundtrack while you are there! Jeff
Kevin,We have found it to be as dust proof as any other topper we have used. The tailgate of the truck is the most vulnerable area to which we have added some extra weather stripping. Jeff
It is a nice piece of equipment for sure but it costs about as much as I paid for my 2004 Toyota Tundra 2 years ago So probably a roof top tent is more in line for me. I do like the videos you guys do. Thanks! PS My favourite video are your early ones when you had the Land Cruiser, by the way, did you guys get rid of it?
I think I've watched everything on the channel and I've watch return to Mackensie twice so far Have you guy done another trip yet ? Something to be uploaded in say near future ? Please keep em coming i need something to binge watch LoL
I've never met a group of guys more obsessed with T-Swift :). Love these vids keep em coming!!
Ha, we haven't either. Thanks for watching!
Jeff
217 Justin lol watch Central America
Jeff’s a stud!! Thanks for the videos!
That thing is sweet! I wish I was running a pickup, but I'll have to live with an old FJ80 for now. Keep em comin Jeff
Thanks for watching Rick. We'll keep cranking them out!
you guys are awesome, can't wait till I get out there! thanks for the ideas!
Thanks for all the hard work your team does to inform and inspire all of us! The specs on the website say the Mattress is 48" wide. Isn't that a bit tight.....smaller than a double I think? How have you found it?

Still rocking the Tae Tae!!!! Love it all keep em coming fellas!!

This is a good topic to cover. Plus come on, the opening scene for that episode alone will be awesome.
John Robeson HEY! The Exelles women are strong, I'm sure they could handle it. Stop being sexist maybe?!
Cassette toilets(permanent installation) and Porta potti are pretty elegant solutions that don't require RV dump stations to empty. Maybe give those a look. Otherwise, just get one of those seats that snap onto a 5 gallon bucket and "rough it."
The Porta Pottis are pretty inexpensive and well worth the creature comfort. You just need room for you and it.
Awesome setup! Im lovin these videos.
Love the Taylor Swift music in the background. Hilarious memories of "the game"
Oh "the game"! T-Swizzle will always be a part of our adventures.
Wow really enjoying your Series Big Hi to all The Crew from Down Under Down Under ( Tasmania ) :-)
I'm curious about your battery setup. Would love a future video that details the set up and usage
Nice, but I suspect few people can afford that combination of products. Excellent kit.
Hey there Jeff, so how cold is the rating for the habitat? Obviously I'm not looking to freeze in -40 winters in Canada, but can it handle a normal winter excursion?
So, what about security for the Habitat? Is there a way to lock the top shut?
GREAT 'SYSTEM'....But i sometimes think companies ignore 'peeps' that NEED All '4 Season' Protection! Have you had to fold it up wet yet? And if so, how has that gone?
great job
Thanks Scott and thanks for watching!
Jeff
Nice setup - I wish I still had my truck
Are you looking at doing a Oh Hey there clip on Pre trip Vehicle Inspection ?? :-)
Tim,
It's like you are reading my mind! In the near future I will be shooting videos on pre, during, and post trip vehicle maintenance and inspection. The won't release for a couple of months but keep an eye out for them.
Thanks for watching,
Jeff
Great too Hear look forward to more I really enjoyed all of your Clips as well as your Expeditions.
Hi to all the Folks :-) Cheers Mate

довольно уютно :)
Very comfortable indeed!
Jeff
How does it hold up to the wind. California desert wilds seem to kick up when camping conditions get nice.
You should do GPS/Navigation gadgets next!
Jeff
How come you guys don't use awnings? The usable area around the cars would be so much larger and it seems to be relatively cheap...
Any news on South America ?....and will the new Tacoma go there ?
Interesting habitat there. You said it has a weight capacity of 600lbs but also said you can sleep 4 guys in there...I guess that's true as long as one of those guys isn't Clay...sorry, I couldn't help myself. Love the channel!
Touche! To clarify the cantilevered sleeping platform can hold 600lbs while the sleeping platform over the truck bed can hold much more weight.
Jeff
ExpeditionOverland alright that makes more sense now!
ouch
isn't overlanding crossing the sahara or some other terrain that requires alot of endurance??
I need one for my Ram... I wonder if they'll make one for a fullsize
I just spotted a 963rd subdued patch... my question! What's the story behind that? :)
When will you next go on a bigger trip?
600lb capacity? sleep 4 guys?
I need this for my Hilux!!
that looks like the rock formations between Laramie and Cheyenne WY....Better known as Vedauwoo.
The visuals are amazing! Mind I ask what kind of cameras/equipment you guys are using??
Anita,
Our primary camera is the Cannon C-100 Mark II. It works as a great run and gun camera while still getting quality footage. For smaller projects we have been using the Sony A7s. ExpeditionOverland amazing! Thank you for sharing. Awesome work :)
How would you compare it to the FlipPac which is not being made any more.
When is your next expedition?
Can you store your bedding in it ??
Just to make sure I heard right, you CANNOT leave your bedding out when its stored? Thats kind of a bummer.
Patrick,
You are correct in that you cannot store bedding in the Habitat. However we find that because the entire space of the truck bed is still useful for storage there is no shortage of space for sleeping gear.
Jeff
Thanks Jeff, Its just a bummer in the sense that packing up and putting out sleeping gear is one task I hate...seems like there should be some room to leave the bed made for maximum convenience, which is after-all what you are paying for with any sleep system (after simple shelter)
are there any tent habitat systems with a removable top so can watch the stars at night?
Not that we are aware of but Adventure Trailers might have something in the works that we don't know about. Your best resource would be to contact Adventure Trailers. Give them a call or send them an e-mail and they will answer any questions you have. adventuretrailers.com/contact-us/

That's just what I'm looking for what an awesome product how do I get one for free and do advertising for you something that would fit on my Ford Explorer
300 plus lbs that extremely top heavy for a tent ⛺️ how do you cope with curves at high speed ?
im assuming most of that weight is at the base of that CAP/Tent system near the sides of the truck bed
James Simpson you are correct.
do you make the habitat for long bed Tacomas to?

Thanks for watching!
Jeff
Hey what month did you guys take on the Mackenzie?
We did the Mackenzie in the first few weeks of August.
ExpeditionOverland ok thanks you wouldn't happen to have any info on the trail for early June would you ? A couple of us are planning on taking it on around that time. The main concern is going to river height in June. Thanks again for your help and what you guys do keep it up.
600# capacity...sleeps 4 guys...not me or guys I know! I guess it's capable of higher weight limits...fantastic outfit regardless!!!
Jeremy,
The 600# capacity is for the cantilevered sleep platform, meaning you can sleep two 300lb people in that space. The sleeping platform over the bed of the trick can carry much more weight. We have had a few nights of sleeping 4 full grown men in the Habitat and it was up for the task.

Any idea what your MPG loss is with this installed?
Nice video. Was it filmed at Pipestone?
Close, Just a bit south of Pipestone.
Very cool. Thought so as we camp and ride dirt bikes there a lot and it looked familiar. When's the next travel video series?
how can i order this cap with top tent for my landcruiser pickup to my country ,,,,
What's the song in the beginning of the show called? Not Taylor swift part lol
Mike,
The song is Untamed Solitude by Woodrowgerber. This song is not on itunes but he has a lot of music out and we really like what he does. itunes.apple.com/us/artist/woodrowgerber/id604681348?trackPage=1#trackPage
Check out the XO soundtrack while you are there!
Jeff
Thanks Jeff!!!
From the back catalog woodrowgerber.bandcamp.com/track/untamed-solitude-2
can any amount of sleeping gear be stored up top while folded?
Jesse Baker at 3:28 I think he says that you can't store stuff up top when it is closed up... just what I heard though.
is the J180 for jeep discontinued?
Wait so it does not come with bedding?
Can the tent be locked?
Is the back compartment dust proof??
Kevin,We have found it to be as dust proof as any other topper we have used. The tailgate of the truck is the most vulnerable area to which we have added some extra weather stripping.
Jeff
@3:30 "clean everything out, you cant store your bedding up here." Thats disappointing.
how much does it cost?
A lot... check out the bottom of this page adventuretrailers.com/campers/toyota-habitat/
It starts at $8900. Considering the function and build quality we believe it is well worth the cost.
It is a nice piece of equipment for sure but it costs about as much as I paid for my 2004 Toyota Tundra 2 years ago So probably a roof top tent is more in line for me. I do like the videos you guys do. Thanks!
PS
My favourite video are your early ones when you had the Land Cruiser, by the way, did you guys get rid of it?
Where was this shot? Looks like an awesome place to camp.
Somewhere in Montana.
How many kidneys will I need to sell for one of these?
Too bad it doesn't allow someone to walk in without having to bend under the rear bar
Too bad the solar panels become ineffective
600 lbs is 4 small humans.....lol
The Back Forty right more like small boys
Snap chat avatars are so cringe
I think I've watched everything on the channel and I've watch return to Mackensie twice so far
Have you guy done another trip yet ? Something to be uploaded in say near future ?
Please keep em coming i need something to binge watch LoL
