Play War Thunder now with my link, and get a massive, free bonus pack including vehicles, boosters and more: playwt.link/syngaming2023
I guess we are back to Skyrim modding. As Starfield didn't turn out the way I expected, my prediction is that Skyrim modding will continue to thrive for years to come.
So here it is, our yearly tradition of showcasing the most popular mods created in late 2022 and throughout the year 2023 is back, and I hope you guys enjoy watching the video as much as I enjoyed making it!
On another note, I will still cover Starfield's modding scene, but most likely not as frequently as I originally hoped / planned.
The sad and objective truth is, the interest is simply not there. Whether it's because we have no Creation Kit tools, or because you think the game is bad or not interesting to mod, reality is that making weekly coverage for a game that garners little interest is obviously a fool's errand.
So for those that subscribed for Starfield coverage, I felt like you should be aware of this going forward.
In summary, I will be focusing on modding coverage as I always have, for both Skyrim and Starfield, however, Skyrim will once again take priority on this channel until we get creation kit tools for Starfield, where we can potentially revive the game.
Ask me anything you want below, I always like responding to as many comments as I can.

True, Starfield was such a let down. My question is, what is the mod you use for your character getting back on their feet after getting knocked down? It's a small detail but it really ties the new combat mechanics together.
And I'd love a part 2. Your mod choices and the quality of your showcases is always top tier.

You always do such a seamless job of showacasing how mods look and work in-game. There were even a few on this list that I had missed! Thank you for highlighting such great mods. I vote for a part 2 and/or part 3! (I know, I'm greedy.) City overhauls, some new quest mods, and let's not forget the Light Limit Fix and Community Shaders options that dropped. 2023 has been wonderful for my modding addiction, er, hobby.
Thank you for all your time and effort that you put into your videos, Syn. You know you've done a great job when people don't notice just how long it probably took you to put that together. Very helpful and well done video! I'm currently working on a new modlist I thought was all I needed at 400+. You've peaked my interest in 7 new mods like Cabbage ENB(I've been running Rudy ENB with various weathers for the last few years), and some very cool looking combat and animation mods I wasn't aware of. Thanks! I'm very interested in a part 2.
I too am very concerned about Starfield. I don't think it deserves a "mixed rating". I think that is reflective of several things: 1) passive aggressive responses from those who still haven't recovered from their disappointment with games like FO76 and Redfall; 2) Nvidia GPU users
like me who were angry at the greedy/unethical business decision to not include DLSS 2/3 & Frame Generation upon release in order to manipulate users into buying AMD GPUs; 3) BGS over-hyping the depth and scope of planetary exploration; 4 BGS sticking with the Fallout 4 model for followers AI package instead of going back to the superior Skyrim SE model(i.e. much less annoying, immersion breaking chatter)etc. On a positive note, the game has excellent graphics on my system(Origin Intel i9-13900K 3.00 GHz Geforce RTX 4080 RAM 32GB),
the weapon, modding, skills and quest systems are fun for me, the exploration could be greatly improved through modded or dlc settlements with npcs/quests spread throughout the galaxy. Random encounters, more interesting/useful/exotic things to find on planets etc.
BGS has a decision to make: they can continue in this passive aggressive posture, sitting on their hands, while modders do the heavy lifting(which might be their plan with this whole monetization marketplace modding patch to be released soon) or they can follow the
example of Hello Games, who after a disastrous launch of NMS, channeled their anger and disappointment into something positive, making
NMS, and its gamer community, the thriving free modding community it is today.
Starfield is not the train wreck NMS was at launch. It has a solid graphics engine, good voice acting, and enjoyable space combat. It has at least as solid of a foundation as Fallout 4, maybe even Skyrim! Keep in mind those didn't share the biggest hurdle of Starfield: creating a bunch of mini open worlds, a new space combat system. I've read the complaint, they should have gone with 100 more detailed worlds. That approach would have limited future modding, and 100 worlds would become familiar much more quickly. On the third or fourth play-through, replay value is reduced.
Starfield was Todd & teams dream project, and it clearly was a labor of love for them, so I understand the disappointment for the Steam reviews. With the right attitude and perspective, I still believe it can be one of their best games in a year or two with DLC and paid/free modding. But they must be allowed to coexist for PC players
To be clear, I'm not saying there can be any comparison between the release state of NMS & SF. I my opinion, I would give SF a mostly positive
rating. With the huge scope of the game, and all it was attempting to do, I think it came out fairly polished and bug free(by comparison with previous BGS releases). I rage quit when the beta DLSS/FrameGen update completely bugged out for me. For a background on this, I bought my new PC in early January just before the BGS AMD PC exclusive announcement. I bought the computer based on SYSREQ on several games including Starfield. My DLSS mods kept breaking with each patch. And I was not alone in this frustration, I recently submitted to a Steam survey for a system check of my computer. Out of curiosity, I viewed the survey results for all PC users on Steam: 82.22% Nvidia, 11.53% AMD. I think it is highly probable that some of the "mixed" feelings regarding the perception of the game may be a passive aggressive response to this shady business decision. Was it really worth trying to expand AMD's base, at the expense of compromising Starfield's launch?
I would like to express I have no problem with modders being rewarded for the hard work they do modding, and I myself will browse the new marketplace to see if there is anything I want to buy. My concern is that BGS does not submit to the temptation of greed, and inject code into the patch for Skyrim SE, Fallout 4, and Starfield that hinders or obstructs free modders from performing their art. This would be a decision much like not providing DLSS 2/3 & Frame Generation support for Starfield from release. An attempt to force the players hand to spend money, influenced most likely by Microsoft, as this kind of tactic is right in their wheelhouse. I'm so sick of big tech, government etc. telling us how to
live, what to think, and what to buy.
I don't have a problem with monetization of modding if it is done on a voluntary basis, but when it becomes compulsory for games which are over, or close to over, a decade old I do! I started having concerns over this when the "free" upgrade of Skyrim SE was used as a springboard Creation Club, but BGS allowed free and paid mods to coexist, hopefully this is still the case with SEE, FO4 & SF with the new patch!
As a retired LE mid-manager with TBI(non-work related)who is retired and unable to drive, the BGS series of titles from FO3/Oblivion on up
have been instrumental in helping me to deal with chronic pain and reactive depression. The depth of immersion, freedom of choice, beautiful
audio/visual environments are the types of components that fulfill the all requirements for the coping mechanisms/distraction techniques(which I was taught at a university pain center) which are vital in managing chronic pain. This was first discovered back in
the day with release of games AOE, AOM, & RON. These games can aid in improvement short-term memory/multitasking etc. But they aren't
very relaxing. BGS games check a lot more boxes in terms facilitating relaxation when exploring, separation/distraction from pain through immersion in highly detailed and interactive environments. Per pain center staff, all pain impulses processed through the body go through
the Limbic Lobe of the brain(in the back) prior to being perceived as pain in Cerebral Cortex(in the front). The Limbic Lobe of the brain is
involved in the state and management of our emotions. So in essence, the perception of pain is filtered by our emotions. A person with a
great attitude and optimistic outlook has a much better chance of managing pain effectively. To a person who is depressed, the pain is
amplified! Being alone and isolated without any sensory stimuli compounds this effect. Distractions like BGS games surround you with an overload of sensory stimuli that drown out the perception of pain, but it is not instantaneous. The effects may take as long as it takes for pain
medication to get in your system, but once you get "in the zone" it can be sweet! Once you quit, the symptoms will return just like they left. But it isn't that pain really changes, your perception of it is dampened as your brain is processing all the audio and visual data, making it much more
difficult to focus on the pain. But I digress!
To anyone who didn't like the load screens in Starfield traveling from planet to planet. Did you like Mass Effect 1,2,3,LE(which I love) and the bastard child MEA(which I still enjoy modded with great combat) ? The ME series were far more linear rpgs, but there's no way around flying from planet and planet with loading screens with a space game that has planets.
I still think Starfield has the potential to be a game played and loved 10 years from now. Will BGS be able to channel their inner Sean Murray, and ignore the about 50 to 60% player reviews which really aren't about Starfield, as stated above, and start constructively working toward an action plan which unites his staff with a positive, professional approach to addressing issues that are legit. One thing that really shot down Bioware was their inability to accept constructive criticism, and ignore inappropriate, destructive criticism. In response to controversy surrounding ME3, they slowly began to develop an Us vs. Them mentality in adopting a passive aggressive response to their player base. As a developer of video games, when you start viewing video game players as the enemy you've already lost. The Bioware Social Network posts became incredibly toxic. It does not surprise me a complete meltdown followed. This was the formula for an epic fail. I guess Bioware is attempting a comeback with Mass Effect 4. I hope they succeed, but it's unlikely they will ever be able to match the impetus they had at the release of Mass Effect 3. Back then they were a force of nature(SWKOTOR, Dragon Age 1/2 etc.) But I do love a good redemption story!
I apologize the spastic structure of my paragraphs. It is a real shotgun effect, some hit the target, some are in the next county!

Just found your channel. Super amazing video and well edited! I was curious if you already had a tutorial video on combat animations dealing purely with katanas as i immediately fell in love with your katana attacks and combos and kill moves or if you would be able/want to do a video on setting up said attack mod with katana animations. Thanks!

What is your full load order? Your game looks nuts, even with the hundreds of texture mods I've downloaded and tried it still never looked as good as yours. The environment, landscape, creature, UI. Looks like a brand new game.

my problem with starfield is at least at first it's a totally story driven affair... you cannot simply fly away and do your own thing as you can in Skyrim ...that's a deal breaker for me

Yes I do want to see a part 2 please!!! I want a nice new companion mod, preferably a female companion to go with my male character in order for romance and eventual marriage. I just can't find a decent one outside the range that I've already explored. (Viljia, Mirai the girl with the dragon heart, etc)

I love the modding scenario for Skyrim presently. However, I'm not into the concept of combat styling trying to replicate the fighting of other games like DMC, Witcher etc. Skyrim had it's own type of fighting styles and they are a bit realistic in nature and not fantasical.
