The hybrid works if the ball is sitting up. If the ball is sitting down in the grass I have found wedges with bounce don't work well. My gap wedge works better because it cuts through the grass and the bounce doesn't cause it to ride through the grass. Instead I can get the club head down under the ball. Results are more consistent and predictable..
