    The C4 was undefeated in SCCA show room stock GT from 85-87. The competitors complained so much that the corvette challenge series was created for corvettes only in 88 and 89.
    The story of the corvette challenge series is a good read. The car was really ahead of it's time.

    I am fortunate to have a 1996 LT4 convertible Corvette, the car has 22k original miles and is in excellent condition. Just a reminder that all manual cars in 1996 got the LT4 engine upgrade. So these "grand sport" engines are out there, but not many.
    As for the value of these cars? I'm not sold that these cars will ever approach any real money like Porche did, but i do think my car will retain value in the coming years, but it's not going to see any crazy money.

    I have two C4s. A '91 and a '93.. the L98 and the LT1 engines.. both automatics. I retired the '91 when a deer ran into the front corner. The cost of replacing the entire hood was more than she was insured for.. so I bought the '93 and had her licensed as a historic vehicle.. which I can only drive on holidays and special events,. but I missed the old one.. so I bought it back from the insurance co. and now use it as an almost "daily" driver.. She doesn't owe me anything so I use her like any hatchback now.. to carry large purchases or lumber or anything else.
    only 55K. on the odometer, busted funder and hood or not.. she is still a favorite.. the '93 doesn't have many more miles on her than that.. but she is getting too valuable to drive anymore.. almost becomming a garage queen. So I'm glad I still have a "beater" C4 that I canno wear out fast enough.

    • @HernanSpeed

      Sounds like something I would also do. I know what you mean about values and how they effect the enjoyment. Sometimes you just want to drive without worrying how the miles effect the value, especially when it’s going UP in value☝️I’ve seen those L98’s with over 400k+ miles, so it’ll be a while before it wears out! 👊👊

    Good info. As a former C4 1990 owner. AC compressors are weak. If you get a 6 speed, the flywheel damper is the cause of your vibrating transmission, headlight motors-go with the brass gears, The MAP sensor can leave you stranded, as the factory alarm. Burp your coolant system!

    • @HernanSpeed
      @HernanSpeed  8 месяцев назад

      Those are some great tips! 🔥💯💯 Especially burping the cooling system, it’s often forgotten on C4 causing the temps to skyrocket!

    great video my friend! I have a 1994 Torch Red Corvette that I bought as a project (opti died, brakelines rusted, weatherstripping, paint could be better) so that I could expand my skills as a DIY mechanic and to really get intimate with the details and systems of the car as i take it apart and rebuild it to its former glory. only has about 60k miles on it but it was abandoned for however many years before I adopted it. I may have bought it as a beater, but it has all the neat options that everyone wants, like the FX3 suspension system, the upgraded sports seats, ZR-1 special rims, ZF6 transmission, etc.
    this was an entertaining and informative video for newcomers to this wonderful machine. I got mine for $6k but even if someone shells out $15k for one, they're getting a LOT of car for the money. and it is one of the last truly analog cars that the common man can still afford and enjoy. it's a work of art

    I totally agree with your analysis here, my first car was a 1985 corvette with the four speed manual, incredibly fun, handled like it was glued to the road. My very next car was a 1994 6 speed, which I still own today. It was bought a garage queen but I drove it so much I put 10k miles on it in a year. Okay mister dude. I already like your channel but aside from being a Porsche and jaguar guy, I'm also a Corvette guy. I had a 1973 c3 Corvette with a built motor racing clutch and the four speed that comes with the car. That is amazingly good but really needs a fifth gear.
    C4 is going to become popular and worth money and before I watch your video which isn't out yet, I know that you're going to tell people to stay away from the 84. The worry with these cars is the electronics were complex and general motors has never been good at electronics other than electric seats.

    I have a 1990 base. Headers, 2.5 true duals, and an x pipe. Built trans with shift kit and a higher stall. Almost a FULL tune up so it’s running right. It’s even tuned by Pcm of nc (Alvin a legend on the forums). My car rips man. The fact that with pretty much just exhaust and a tune makes this thing a beast. I would like to get a first tpi intake made by ken. It’s what our l98’s should’ve been from factory. Those intakes still have a cutoff in power up top, but the torque and low to mid power is insane. With that intake and everything else I have I’ll be past 300hp and past 400torque. Lightweight and launching harder due to my stall.. bro.. lol. Do not sleep on these cars!!!! Lt1’s are great but I’d rather not deal with the optispark.

    • @HernanSpeed
      @HernanSpeed  Год назад +3

      Love it! 🙌🙌 Yess, the intakes on the L98 engines are really restrictive…it should be one of the first mods. You’ve done some great mods, especially the higher stall torque converter 🚀🚀 Getting an L98 with over 300hp is the way to go! Why? It’s all about the ground-ripping TORQUE! 💣💥💥

    As an "80's" kid, I actually hated these cars back then. Mustangs, Camaros, and later Grand Nationals were the cool cars. My friends and I used to make fun of those "80s style 'Vettes" as creepy Old Man cars. Now approaching 50 years old myself, I want a C4 Corvette so bad! I've been spending a lot of time lately researching what to look for in a used C4. My perfect car would be something kind of obscure like Pre-'90, blue with blue leather interior, and a manual transmission. White with a red stripe like Face's from The A-Team would certainly fit the bill as well. However, it seems like I am about two years late to the party as I cannot find anything decent for under $10K around here.

    Damn, what a great presenter and video. Had this video come out months ago it would have definitely pushed me over the edge even further. Recently got a 1989 corvette convertible with the ZF 6 speed. Had to be a 1989 because of the 80s exterior and interior. 51k original miles & well taken care of, the original radio in it definitely adds the experience. I've been making my own cassettes recently and the sound quality of the delco bose system is amazing, more richer than a digital/bluetooth sound. My friends believe it to be the true 80s Miami Vice color scheme though....Snow white exterior & Blood red interior ;)
    Im only a young man in my 20s and intend to take very good care of the car, not cheaping out on anything! Everything works and will continue to work, gotta preserve these beauties.

    I have a mint '93 ZO7 and I have to say this video is jam packed with good info if you're in the market for one. If you can find a nice one, it's a great bargain for a sports car. A LT1 has as good of performance as some of the brand-new cars such as civic type R and Corolla GR, yet it can be 1/5th the cost to buy and something you can maintain yourself if you have some mechanical skills.

      As far as brands: the difference in prices between the best and cheapest is less than $30. They all last about the same, the rollers/guides are what’s really important…I’d get them OEM if possible.

      Hey👋🏻. The first car should be easy to drive without thinking. I’d finder a beater to drive the first year; learn to park in tight spaces and get used to driving overall. Then sell it and get the Vette you want! 🙌🙌 Trust me, it’s better this way 💯💯💯

    There’s a mint ZR1 near me with 58K miles, asking price is $35,000
    Does that sound like a fair price ?

    • @HernanSpeed
      @HernanSpeed  10 месяцев назад +1

      If it’s truly mint, it’s a great price! 💯💯 ZR1 motors are exotic, but also bulletproof… so only routine maintenance is required. I would look at the suspension bushings, and age of the tires. Also check to see how many owners it’s had. And most importantly, make sure the color combo is what you really want.. Cars like the ZR1 are kept a long time by owners, take your time and find one you really want 👊🚀🚀

    Which is the better car? 84 C4 or an 84 Porsche 928?

    • @HernanSpeed
      @HernanSpeed  11 дней назад

      Very different cars and prices ranges. They aren’t really comparable. A minty 84 928 is about $50k, and a minty 84 C4 is about $5-7k.
      I would say that the C4 is more of a fun weekend toy, and the 928 is more of a pure engineering masterpiece. I love both, but for different reasons
