Hello , I have a remote job as a property management assistant. It’s almost full time 6 hours daily. I have received invitations in upwork for full time jobs and I mentioned that I am available less that 30 hours a week . Should I write my availability on mi profile ?
Hi Rosa! Great question. So, I also had a full-time job when I started freelancing. I've always had my availability set to "as needed open to offers" on Upwork. I would recommend going with that option or less than 30 hours per week. Hope this helps! :)
Trying to land a job on Upwork, profile is optimized, portfolio is good. Very close to closing my first deal. I am a student and want to achieve great things, God Willing.
I'm a FrontEnd Developer working a dead-end Job and I'm looking for other opportunities. I just created an Upwork account and found your video as a great resource for building my profile.
Very motivating video.I wanted to ask for your advice on something. I’ve been considering freelancing as an SQL DBA and Cloud Engineer. In this AI-driven era, where many problems can be solved online, do you think this is a viable career path?
Josh, incredible stuff! I am starting my Upworks journey, as well as a RUclips channel and a blog. Stuff I have procrastinated on for years, quite frankly. Your videos have given me a second wind on kickstarting those again. So thank you.
I am working as a graphic designer and presentation maker on Upwork. I've complete 10 jobs and earned $500+. Now I want to start again, I am applying for jobs in my field but couldn't get any responses from clients. Any suggestions? I would love to work on Upwork again. I hate my 9 to 5 job. Thanks, man! Such an inspiration!
I'm in the process of hiring a video editor right now and the main things I look for are examples of work and something that clearly shows they read my job description. That should be at the top of your proposal. You're likely already doing the right things, you just need to be extremely consistent and I know it sounds obvious, but work hard and put in more time looking for jobs than everyone else. One of the biggest advantages that I have is the fact that I developed a personal brand. Creating content (video or blog) around your skill set, building a website, etc. can make a huge difference and I plan to talk about this more in upcoming videos. If you've never considered creating content or building a personal brand, then I would highly recommend it.
I'm currently a fresh graduate in marketing with a certificate from Hubspot Academy.I just want to apply for a driver's job at a school. Basically 8-5 here and starting my career from freelance. I'm from Nigeria .What's your advice ?

Mr josh I'm always waiting for your great content. I have an uncomfortable 9-5 job. I am an electrical engineer and in my 4 years Upwork journey I hardly made 3k+ as the most work is acedamic and low paying. I have sent 800+ proposals. Thanks,
What is your freelance skill set in and what is your Upwork job title? How much demand is there for it? What is the pay ceiling (top earning freelancer with your skill set in your geographic location)?
@@JoshBurnsTech my skills are related to electrical engineering software simulations (Matlab , Etap etc). Upwork title: Electrical low voltage and high voltage modeling and simulations. @@M.R_Adventures It sounds like demand will be very low for your skill set. So yeah I think it would be a good idea to pivot into a freelance skill that has a better combination of demand + pay
@@M.R_Adventures No, Upwork is still my largest income stream. But I think it's best to have multiple income streams, so that you're not solely reliant on one platform. If something horrible happens with Upwork or my account, I won't lose all of my income.

Great video. As someone who's been struggling with the job market I've been looking for some solid advice on alternative income streams. The idea of going freelance is kind of intimidating for a newcomer but this has given me a few ideas for new approaches to try. There are a couple of topics I'd be interested in hearing about your opinions on. Firstly, I've heard it said that as a freelancer you should stick to a single field or niche on platforms like Upwork and Fiver. Would you say this is true? I have experience in programming and video editing that I would be interested in taking into the freelancing market. Am I better off sticking to one? Secondly, what's your advice on promotion and reaching different markets? Especially for things like selling digital products.
Great questions! Yes, I would start with one platform and go all-in. Create a great profile, portfolio, set up an RSS feed for job alerts, learn how to write good proposals, etc. I actually started on Freelancer (dot com) back in 2015 before switching to Upwork in 2016 because of the higher demand and pay. My recommendation would be focusing on creating content. Otherwise, you would need to promote the product on a marketplace, run ads for it, etc. I'm a fan of building an audience on RUclips, social media, etc. and then eventually creating digital products after you have a reputation and credibility.
Thanks for the response! Just to make sure I understand fully, you'd recommend just picking one field (either programming or editing) and focusing entirely on that?
@@GuyShrigley-pq8gs Yes, that's what I would personally do. Espeically with those skill sets being so different. Plus you can go all-in on that skill set and figure out the best way to get repeat clients and scale.
