I just finished watching it a few seconds ago damn it was so good. The opening sequence with the events of The Batman (2022) in conjunction with Victor's backstory and how he lost his family is so well done. Again the cinematography from Craig Fraser in The Batman (2022) being used in this mini-series says continuity matters with capturing the closeness of the action with the characters.
As a die hard Batman fan I just want to say that I am so grateful to be alive right now to witness this moment in time. Getting a fully fleshed out Batman world done in this way is a dream come true. Please WB keep this world going alongside but seperate to the DCU. I want a trilogy of trilogies of Battinson movies and more and more of these spinoff TV shows.
That talk with Vic in the bathroom… damn! what a way to lay it out flat! Really put things in perspective. The writing and performances are spectacular!!
I get The Hound and Arya vibes from Oz and Vic. The "F me? F the world!!!" Reminded me of the Hound " I'm not awful, it's the world that's awful I'm just honest"
Did anyone else notice his stutter was less prevalent when he was talking to his gf or the scene when he is eating with penguin and they are talking about his dad?
yes! I said the same to my partner when we were watching. He is so much more comfortable talking to Penguin than anyone. His face lit up talking about his dad and it was like the stutter didn't exist at all.
I love how the title of this episode was not only referring to the drug named Bliss but also the fact that in this episode, Victor makes a choice and is no longer ignorant to the role he is playing and we all know, ignorance is bliss. Well now his is gone.
Oz and Victor's relationship gives me literal anxiety and second hand trauma. I have been terrified for that kid since his first scene, and I agree with you, Coy, there is this foreboding feeling something really bad is going to happen to that kid. I literally screamed at my screen for him to get on the bus😭🤦♀.
Penguin and Vic got a lot of 10/10 scenes this episode, the talk in the resturant was already amazing, but then they went and had Penguin voice how much of a betryal Vic thinking he was a hostage is. Pointing the gun at his head and saying "But this is all you feel?" was so good.
Absolutely, and I even felt like he was trapped too so was surprised to hear Oz feeling a betrayal from having that perspective. Even more surprised to see Vic doubting himself, though totally get he wants to prove he has what it takes but didn’t expect him to throw away his best chance at a new life. I hope to see him gaining some confidence now he’s made his choice. And Oz owes him BIG, it didn’t look like he would’ve gotten out of that situation without Vic. Crazy to think The Penguin would’ve been done if Vic went on the bus.
This episode was a real insight into the power dynamics at play, every character has something to gain and something to lose and everyone is trying their best to position themselves in advantage. The more I see the more I realise that Oz absolutely feeds from this type of chaos, whilst everyone else is still reeling and trying to figure out how to survive. What a mess he’s made now…it’s looking tougher for him to find a way out but at the same time he was absolutely loving being part of a big operation and the power it brought. He’s had a taste of being at the top and I don’t see him letting go, he’s gonna need to start making even grander moves now and I can’t wait to see it unfold.
Happy belated birthday Coy. My 35th was today, and watching the Penguin was a great way to end the day. This show draws me in more and more every week. Best of the year so far! We're in it now, Vic!
LOVE the kitty cameo. another great breakdown, completely agree that this is the best show on TV rn and that it has some of the best writing, ever! yeah i was "excited" for the show, but it really has blown my expectations out of the water. i remember pausing this episode 7/8 minutes in and just sitting there in awe/happiness at what they've created - the world building, plot development, stakes, action, dialogue, etc. also going back to something you originally said a couple videos ago that i didn't agree with then. however, you are so right, Colin Farrell in this role is Heath Ledger level of acting. Milioti and Feliz have been outstanding as well, shocked at the way i've been able to connect/relate/understand 3 different characters. something some shows can't even do with one throughout a whole season. kudos to them and i cant wait for next weeks episode! keep up the hard work, there's a reason you're the best in the biz (;
The theory might be a little weak, but I see Victor as an alternate universe Robin or a character meant to mirror Robin. Aguilar in Spanish roughly translates to eagle . Also his origin of stealing from the car parallels one Robin origin. The framing of the title card around his eyes sold me on it a little more this week. Collin Farrell is definitely giving an award worth performance. Also a cool idea for the thumbnails could be inspired by the Alex Ross art behind you. It could be you opening a suit jacket to reveal the logo of the show/movie. Around you could feature clips from the movie/episode. Keep up the hard work brother! 💪🏽 🦸♂️

I love this show. I think when it’s all said and done Colin Farrell, Matt Reeves, and this entire crew might just raise the Penguin from being a recognizable Batman villain to an iconic character, especially if they give him a larger role in the second movie.
So many great scenes! And didn’t even mention Viti threatening Sofia in the hallway. Or Viti getting the phone shoved in his throat in the hotel room by an angry Oz. And I can’t believe they just left Sofia there!! Such high quality writing, acting, scene work, lighting, camera work, cinematography! Last but not least, I admit to mixed feelings on the upcoming change. There will be great things to come from partnering with RR and their resources/production. However, so much of what I love is your genuine stream of consciousness and authentic self coming straight from your home/living room etc. Like having SpideyCat just lying under the Deadpool bust living his best life, etc. But excited for you either way and will always be there for your great videos, coverage, opinions.
This episode makes me believe it's possible that Sofia is genuinely innocent, and her father Carmine Falcone is the "Hangman". In The Batman movie, Carmine strangled Annika, tried to kill Selina by choking her while also admitting to killing her mother the same way. I think he framed Sofia for the murders he committed, and we already saw in The Batman that he has a inclination for killing woman through strangulation.
Really enjoying this season so far I really felt the care that Oz has for Vic at the dinner scene. The way he stood up for him with the waiter and wanted to get to know him and his family. It all felt genuine and it gives so much weight to the bathroom argument scene later in the episode. Loving the coverage Coy keep up the great work

I’m with you 100% of the way. I throughly enjoyed the first two eps but this episode was easily the best. This was the ep that convinced my GF to watch with me bc it’s not just a great comic show, it’s just an awesome TV show
I was wondering if you thought Victor might be Zsasz. Glad you talked about that. I agree with you that I think Oswald will have to kill him in the end to show just how evil he is. But I will admit that last scene kind of had me wondering a bit. Didn't even think about it until then.
There were a lot of little things in this episode (there always are, this show is crafted brilliantly), but the one that got me was Oz sitting alone at the bar after Vic left. He was hurt. For all that Oz is using Vic, I do think there is a genuine connection. As Vic says, Oz is lonely - and I think Vic is not just a lackey in training, but a reminder of one his dead brothers. I could be wrong, this show is brilliant at holding cards close to the chest, and even if that is the relationship I don't think that means Vic will necessarily survive the series - but it feels like there is something incredibly genuine about it all, to me at least. Let's see if it lasts 🙂
This show makes me so happy as a nerdy fan of Batman and great storytelling. This show feels so refreshing and well done all around compared to all the other movies and shows that have been out lately. The actor playing Vic is killing it. But I love Sofia and Oz. Man this show is perfect.

Do you think, if they took out the movie The Batman aspect of this Show. Would this style of Show would have worked as a Live action Movie. Would this work as a movie without needed Batman, but with the title of The Penguin
I could definitely see a path where Victor becomes Zsasz. Adopts the Zsasz last name because he doesn’t want his family’s last name attached to him. Oz could stab him instead of shooting him and he survives and Victor Zsasz originates because of the pain and suffering of The Riddler and Penguin together. I think it would be genius.

In that moment when Vic was driving back to Oz after the Maronis got to him, I FULLY thought someone was gonna run Vic down. It was that exact cliched shot of someone driving and you seeing out of the window where a truck or car or something would come into frame and it was right after the Farsi Maroni woman said "We've been watching you" (not exact wording) I was so worried for Vic man😂🫠
This episode was excellent, I believe this was Victor's episode. He was great but Sofia is still stealing the show. Her interaction with Victor was funny
The best part of the fleeing girlfriend is so enjoyable because that is a youthful idea that the grass is greener somewhere else…I thought it was true in the 80s looking at movies and tv shows of California….but that is a con as well…I believe this girl is coming back when she gets chewed up and spit out ….mark my words
I greatly appreciate the diversity this show has, without being woke. A black kid with a stutter. Penguin is a white man, a cripple, constantly demeaned. A black female mayor. Sofia is a strong female co-lead, portrayed as more powerful and intimidating than Oz. Yet, nothing is woke. This is because of the excellent writing and acting. Nothing is forced.
The modern definition of woke just means stuff people feel they don't like Everything you mentioned can be interpreted by some as woke Because some people find the very existence of diversity to be woke
The whole flashback sequence from character point of view again reminds me of young Kate Bishop as she witnesses the attack on New York and seeing Hawkeye in action fighting the Chitauri. That whole character point of view is always my favorite. Again another dicey situation happening with Oswald using everyone to his advantage whether it's Sofia Falcone or Johnny Veitti. Again seeing Sofia Falcone being betrayed by Oswald Cobblepot is just crazy and it's literally survival of the fittest. It's a hustle that Oswald Cobblepot is playing with everyone.

This was everything I wanted, when i heard the pitch for the penguin i saw the vision couldnt wait for it to drop

It was that exact cliched shot of someone driving and you seeing out of the window where a truck or car or something would come into frame and it was right after the Farsi Maroni woman said "We've been watching you" (not exact wording) I was so worried for Vic man😂🫠
This episode was excellent, I believe this was Victor's episode. He was great but Sofia is still stealing the show. Her interaction with Victor was funny

I greatly appreciate the diversity this show has, without being woke. A black kid with a stutter. Penguin is a white man, a cripple, constantly demeaned. A black female mayor. Sofia is a strong female co-lead, portrayed as more powerful and intimidating than Oz. Yet, nothing is woke. This is because of the excellent writing and acting. Nothing is forced.
The modern definition of woke just means stuff people feel they don't like

The whole flashback sequence from character point of view again reminds me of young Kate Bishop as she witnesses the attack on New York and seeing Hawkeye in action fighting the Chitauri. That whole character point of view is always my favorite. Again another dicey situation happening with Oswald using everyone to his advantage whether it's Sofia Falcone or Johnny Veitti. Again seeing Sofia Falcone being betrayed by Oswald Cobblepot is just crazy and it's literally survival of the fittest. It's a hustle that Oswald Cobblepot is playing with everyone.
