Very glad to hear about the tiny house opportunity! Thats a DIY subject a lot of people are interested in these days, sounds like a good secondary source of YT material!
The tiny house sounds freaking awesome! So glad that opportunity came about. You should seriously consider a series on getting and setting up the tiny houses. I didn't realize you had a "Sadie", I too have a Sadie, she was my first rescue dog
I love LC200N. I've been been doing a dual grit edge on my Native 5 Salt for months and it's been a great performer. 600 grit diamond on one bevel and 1500 grit diamond on the other bevel.
Wishing you the best with the new chapter of your lives. I have a Deka MagnaCut too. So will be keen to see your review after actual usage. I use mine to cut open packages, so really hard use 😂
I’m waiting for Gerald to drop his MagnaCut video which should be pretty soon. But I was very happy with the Mule at 61-62 HRC, it was a excellent performer in my kitchen and I didn’t baby it one bit. Hogue is saying the HRC is 61-63 so it should be solid as well, but I’m seeing lots of other manufacturers dropping theirs at 60-61 which they might as well not even bothered with using it as it’s the same old M390 bait and switch again.
On almost all knife reviews its guys very nice to see a young lady doing reviews on knifes hope you found that tiny house my wife&I live near Merritt Island wild life refuge down in edgewater florida where they used to launch space shuttle were only 15 minutes from our favorite launch for salt water flats fishing this is where the spyderco salt 5 really comes in handy keep up those good reviews
CRK is doing their pocket knifes in 63-64HRC Magnacut. And plan to run fixed blades softer. Can’t wait to get my hands on one. So glad the tiny house is going to work out. My cousin owns a custom tiny home/ Van business. If you didn’t have a billion dogs I’d put you guys in contact lol
Being a regrind snob, Magnacut needs to outperform LC200N at 0.008" BTE in order to make me change teams. My Spydiechef is about 0.007" BTE, and at that thickness it has never chipped or rolled, and it holds its fine edge _way_ longer than it should. It's flat out mind blowing performance for a steel at 59-ish HRC. I don't have first hand experience to back this up, but I don't believe Magnacut can be ground that thin without having edge stability issues. If anyone out there has experience with super thin BTE Magnacut, I'm all ears.
I have a DCC Pry guy in magnacut at 65hrc and ground at 7-8 thou and it's been great. The wear resistance is pretty nuts though it's not something you should get really dull (it does great touching wise on a strop or stone). When I got it the edge was dull and it was only the second knife after FF Radeon in s125v at 65hrc that I couldn't bring the edge back with stones by doing a light touch up and needed to be actually sharpened. Since then I've used either a 3 micron Gunny juice on kangaroo leather, 800 venev or a 3k ruby stone for touch ups and it stays hair widdling sharp. No issues with chipping or rolling after all sorts of use. I wanted to rest the new steel so I batoned, chopped(not great with a >3" edge and a light knife), cut wood, rope and cardboard to see how it holds up. Its has impressed me by it's wear resistance, toughness and edge stability. Though I have many knives in the 0.005-0.010 bte range and never had an issue with any of them. I think the steel and heat treatment play a bigger role than how thin the grind is(unless you pry with a tip, no steel at 0.005 will survive that). Some of the knives are Elmax PM2 Krein regrind to 0.005, Assassin's Knives custom in m398 at 64hrc and 0.007, Fantoni Dweller in 19c27 at 62hrc and 0.010, a Russian maker custom in CPR at 65hrc and 0.010, Bugout reblade in Vanax at 62hrc and 0.010, Joker slipjoint in a carbon steel and 0.005, Spyderco Air and Mantra in M4 reground to 0.007, Cultrotech Slim in Elmax at 65hrc and 0.010 are the ones I can think of the top of my head. I'd love to get a Caribbean and get in reground like your Chef( I loved the lc200n but just wasn't a fan of the Spydiechef design so I sold it). I bet it would be a hell of a slicer.
Erica, consider mobility and flexability in the housing decision you are about to make. At least have a discussion about it and how much you and Nicole value having the flexability to move across the country for new job prospects and opportunities. E.g. Tiny house on a trailer- tons of videos on the subject matter here on youtube. If mobility and flexability is not high on your list at the moment, then go with the decision that makes best sense to both of you. Sending all the best wishes your way!
I’m wondering how hard Spyderco will run their Magnacut Native. If anyone is going to push the limits of Magnacut in a production knife it’s them (I’m hoping all the delays are signs that they are fine tuning).
Just donated, but I had another idea: get a PO Box and let us donate knives to you. Then you can use them to create content to grow your channel and then sell the knives for money. It would almost be like a double donation.
I feel your pain. It would be amazing if Spyderco built a Native-shaped knife sized between the Native 5 and the Shaman. Have you tried a Manix 2 or Stretch 2? They both have about 1/2" more handle than the Native 5.
Have you looked at the corrosion portion of the two steels? I shark fish in the surf in the Gulf of Mexico in Florida and the Spyderco Autonomy is my tool of choice. I'm on my second one because the first one had the lock button rust but not the blade. I'm curious if anyone has done serious saltwater testing of magnacut. Nice review BTW, right to the point!

Ordered my Native salt in magnacut today with a Red fade from KnivesPlus from Kasi. The reason was because of your video. Could you tell me what deep pocket clip you use for this knife?
what do you think of new native 5 salt with magnacut steel? is it nicer than Lc200n version? i am waiting para 3 lightweight version magnacut release ... i wonder spyderco's magnacut feeling would be better or not compare with the deka's magnacut you said is trash
I'm only 5 seconds into this video, but Lc200n has been my favorite steel for awhile now, so I'm really looking forward to hearing you compare it to the new monster that is Magnacut. P.S. I live on the southeast coast of Florida, so stainlessness and rust proof is very important to me.

From everything I’ve seen that mangacut needs to be at least 63HRC.
