Drove one of these back to back against ML, X5, and RX and the Touareg was easily my favorite. Handles very well on road yet is very capable off road. This car deserves more sales, if people could look past the badge they would be very impressed.
Just got a 2012 used, TDI post Dieselgate fixed. Loving it. The MPG might not hit EPA estimates anymore but it's got all that torque. I love the "Tough T" series too. Keep it up.
Bought a new 2014 a couple years ago and I went from love... to hate... to love again. After a week of driving, it was littered with squeaks and rattles. I took it back to the dealership about 10 times... and they obliged 10 times. Believe me, I was a real pain in their butts... but... they got it squeak free! And the love I have for my Touareg Tdi is beyond my ability to describe. I tow a camper across the country with it every year getting a rediculous 8.5L/100kms. It's handling is unlike any vehicle I've ever driven. Amazingly, one of the easies vehicles to change your own oil in using an oil change extraction pump. I mean you don't have to get under the vehicle and you never get dirty... unbelievable. Best.Car.Ever. I love it.
Thanks guys! Been following your channels for a long time. This is an older video, but it helped me make a decision to buy a 2012 Touareg TDi that was part of the buy back program for the 3.0 diesel. VW is sending the 2011/2012 3.0 diesel back to the marketplace, and offering an extended 4 year emission warranty. Reading the warranty, it seems to me it’s a full powertrain warranty for 4 years. Maybe others like me can put this on the gotta try it again list. I couldn’t afford a new one at $50k, so this is a game changing offer by VW. Your Real World driving tests are incredibly valuable. Many thanks again.
Why should you put it in zero? There is also a function. When you switch in reverse the right mirror automatically goes down so you can see the curb when you park
I miss Nathan in the latest TFLC car videos he's the type of guy you could have a blast with sit and have a beer with and just laugh you're ass off at his sense of humour.
I just wish they still offered the air suspension and low range gearbox that the first generation had. That really made the Touareg Mk1 phenomenal off-road
They should've mentioned that this car is, mechanically, nearly identical to the Porsche Cayenne Diesel, which starts at about $20,000 more than the Touareg TDI.
I recently bought a 2012 version. The only differences are colors. I love it. On the road handling is great as well. I had no problem with leaving the roof shade fully open during the summer either. The glass is insulated and tinted from the factory. Warmer than outside? Of course but far from the oven that an old Buick with no sun roof. The resale price is way lower than the 50K that one was new. It's a great buy!
I just bought a 2012 TDI Executive. I'm thinking about renting an auto trailer and towing an old eurovan out of town just because it's that enjoyable to drive, and it can do it!
Thank you thank you thank you for finally reviewing my car. It's just the best of both worlds, also the 2% is actually a good thing because nobody else have this beauty! It's like the best kept secret.
I have a 2013 Touareg R-Line here in the UK, set up for the road so has lowered suspension and 20" alloys with a wider track. Still perfectly able in most off-road situations - air suspension and low range is only really required if you need to do some serious work off-road.
Thanks for this, been looking for reviews on the V6 versions on off roads and finally got one. I got my hands on the 2013 3.6 VR6 and loving it. Tho I was looking for the 4.2 with all the added in off road capabilities which mine doesn’t have. Unfortunately where I live they VW never released those.
I remember seeing a sales brochure for the Touareg, I believe I got at the 2008 Houston Auto Show, and I remember VW advertising the Touareg could go up a 45 degree incline.
Thanks for the comment. FYI: No one scratched the car. Sometimes the dust forms a line that looks like a scratch. No Touaregs were scratched or damaged in the making of this video review.
We finally got Collector Car plates for the Lincoln. But the entire TFLcar team is crazy busy with new 2014 car intros all around the country. We're stretched as much as possible so we have not been able to devote any additional time or resources to the Lincoln.
Watched few of your videos. You always mention 7700 lbs towing capacity. Which is standard to Touareg Cayenne or Q7. Please notice it's Transportation Regulation only. My Touareg v10 in Europe rated 11000lbs towing capacity. Up here in Ontario ..? yeap 7700 lbs. I have knocked down countless stop signs when talking to passenger and pulling 6000 lbs boat. Just forgetting that i have a trailer and taking too sharp turn.
It would be cool to see this Touareg TDI go up against the Grand Cherokee Eco-diesel on the Ike Gauntlet with that boat you had on the truck comparison.
I agree with you guys. The VW Tourag 3.0 TDI is a fantastic car. I believe in European and some other markets, VW has an offroad package that has a switch for different four wheel drive modes and differential locks on top of the height adjustable suspension. Too bad it's not available as an option in the U.S. and where I live.
I have good luck with mine 3 VW's, never had any issues. My GTI is even Supercharged and still no issues. The only thing I hate about my '06 Touareg is that my headlights sometimes flicker, other than that I never had any issues and was never stranded.
Have you guys ever done a review of the 2009 touareg? I hear the new touaregs aren't nearly as good off road as the previous generation of touaregs. I say the 2009 because 2009 was the first year they came out with the v6 TDI. Previous Touaregs had both high and low as well as optional locking rear differential. I know you guys only reviews new car, and you may not take requests, but I would love to see a review of the 2009 v6 TDI Touareg. I'm a fan of your videos and appreciate and value your opinions. Thanks!
Yup TF?L has done a ton of reviews in the older ones I think was the 2004 V8 4.2. Really good and I enjoyed it. And yeah they had more off road capabilities than the newer ones. Apparently VW wanted to reduce the weight and cost. Bummer if unmask me.
My parents are considering one of these, because my dad is a huge fan of diesels and my mom likes an SUV but the Diesel gets better mpg and can tow over 7k, which would be perfect. Would you guys suggest this as a vehicle I could recommend to them?
It's hard to see in the video how steep the hills are I'm these off road tests. Maybe a small picture in picture of a clinometer inside the vehicle would help?
guys do a video on roxor the mahindra vrhicle.... that is if you get it there for that matter do a comparison between lada niva , old wrangler, thar (roxor) and suzuki sidekick, old nissan jonga's
29 mpg, descent off road and towing capability, and a great interior. What's not to love. But what did u guys do to it? At 7:40 u can see scuffs and scrape marks all along the right side. Looks like Nathans work
Always loved this car..just too darned 'spensive even tho it's less expensive than the first generation models that were stuffed to the gills with everything..air suspension, 10-cylinder engines, "gods own torque curve".. the cost of ownership would make a fellow honest to goodness seriously contemplate pimping out his wife and female progeny to feed this beast. Tires alone were crazy expensive and needed changing with higher frequency because of wear of the heavy and powerful vehicle. Service intervals and costs for out of warranty repairs would tempt you to sell organs on the black market..but darn if the car was awesome..just soooo expensive to procure and keep fed..
Nice performance. The AWD system seems to behave almost identically to Mercedes 4matic. I'd love to see a mashup of this with the ML350 Bluetec and the GLK250
Im surprised how this Toureg handled. Scandal or not, i'd be tuning it either way, it doesn't affect anything on this TDI. I'd buy it to keep it, and drive it. Not to keep it in the garage forever to sell. But still on the high in terms of price.
As stated before the US version of the Touareg does not offer air suspension. Air suspension was offered on the first and second generation Touaregs (2004-2010) it is a shame that is not offered. In Europe they also have a V8 diesel but VW decided not to bring it to the US due to the high cost. Just look at some of these comments complaining about how expensive the V6 is, imagine if we had the V8
i would concur however maintenance may be a issue since they did not sell lot of them and finding parts which you will need for off-roading would be difficult to find stuff like tie-rod ends, coupler , bushes , forget about complicated stuff like diff bearings and pins which you will change after say couple of years usage, knowing VW thee part will match nothing else in the market and buying from VW will not be worth, not to mention the long wait for parts to be ordered ..... its a catch 22 situation and people who would want a off-road worthy car super reliable and hassle free they would buy parado or pajero , but its a good thing cos it keeps thees kind of cars on low budget,, and that is a good thing for enthusiast.
Drove one of these back to back against ML, X5, and RX and the Touareg was easily my favorite. Handles very well on road yet is very capable off road. This car deserves more sales, if people could look past the badge they would be very impressed.
Lathan Starnes Agreed. So I bought the V6 Lux, tons for the money.
It’s the Cayenne platform, for the people! Electronics are actually the same system from Bentleys of the same year!
Just got a 2012 used, TDI post Dieselgate fixed. Loving it. The MPG might not hit EPA estimates anymore but it's got all that torque. I love the "Tough T" series too. Keep it up.
you can’t get 28-30 mpg!?! my 98k miles 2012 gets it regularly and even higher if it’s a long drive on the hwy
Bought a new 2014 a couple years ago and I went from love... to hate... to love again. After a week of driving, it was littered with squeaks and rattles. That is why you put the mirror control back to "0" when you're done.
+ivan kruger this is only an issue with the 3rd generation.. 1&2 gen. has it on the center console by the shifter
Ivan Kruger I have this gen and it's literally so far away from where your arm or hand would be when driving.
set the mirror knob to zero and u shouldnt have the elbow to knob problem. Dumbest thing I ever heard in a car review
that exactly what i was gonna say
Why should you put it in zero? There is also a function. When you switch in reverse the right mirror automatically goes down so you can see the curb when you park
@@dltalex207 I'm not sure this is true. I do know that it is not true for my 2012 Touareg.

I rented a VR6 model my last trip home and I fell in love with these over that week. I am very impressed!
Great vid!
They should've mentioned that this car is, mechanically, nearly identical to the Porsche Cayenne Diesel, which starts at about $20,000 more than the Touareg TDI.
+Thomas Ferrugia & the Q7. All are based on the L77 Chassis, as is the new Bentley
+Bri Guy's Utoob 7LP chassis FYI
Toureg is the cheapest of them and is as good offroad it may not have the best interrior but atleast it looks better than the Bently
Vw/Audi 4x4/quattro is the gold standard.

love these guys...gotta watch atleast two reviews a day
Just got the 2017 wolfsburg V6. Love it so far. It's so luxurious!
I have driven one, awesome torque.Once the turbo spools up it's actually fast!
I have to say, if I was older and had the money, I would buy this over anything... Anyday ...

I'M Here because of the 2019 Touareg series!!!!! Lmao
Same
awesome review
I have the V6 Lux version and love it!
Did i miss where you talked about all the offroad settings, options?
Can you do a review on the 2013 Honda ridgeline sport
Been looking to upgrade mine, do lots of off-roading and most people are surprised when I can keep up with their off road rigs.
@the fast car lane I want answer : I have heard that Touareg is equipped with air suspension ? it that true
I remember seeing a sales brochure for the Touareg, I believe I got at the 2008 Houston Auto Show, and I remember VW advertising the Touareg could go up a 45 degree incline.
Love the Rush Shirt!
How does the T3 compare to the T1 and T2 in terms of offroad ability?
Thanks for the comment. FYI: No one scratched the car. Sometimes the dust forms a line that looks like a scratch. No Touaregs were scratched or damaged in the making of this video review.
i have a touareg 2014 with air suspension, if i activate off road + high car niveau, then the vehicle is like twice as high as yours
So are the 2014 or 2011-up Touaregs as good off road as the first generation?
VW the best cars in the World... Luxury, sport, Good quality, so people don*t talk shit ,when you don*t drive it. Very good videos guys...
Do you have the same opinion now with the software cheating scandal out? I'd really like to know.
+Caleb Cissna - Yep, I do!
Me to
Me too! Vw diesels were the best. Only ppl talk scandal emissions crap are those who understand less than 5% how diesel engines work.
Good review, as expected
I got the v10 5lt. It is fantastic
I am also having VW 2014 model but it is no tdi so what is the difference between tdi and not tdi
I wonder if they can sell truck tires at the dealer

Damn the whole side was scratched!
AMAZING GREAT JOB FELLOWS
Hard choice Richard!
You should switch the tires, I have dirt tires to change to when i go off-road
Are you going to do a 0-60 review on this Touareg? I would love to see one!
Hi TFL, love your work. Quick question: which is better off road, T1/T2 OR T3? Given that they are equally spec-ed. Thanks
T1 or T2. In the states the T3 didn’t have a low range or adjustable air suspension
@@TFLcar even if the t2 doesn't have (at least here in my country) a differential lock and low?
It looks so handsome, that's definitely a plus.
That was pretty awesome
those tyres are pirelli scorpion verde : are 4 season tyres. believe me there is very little difference between those vs the summer tyres.
Rush!!!!!3 they're sixty and still rockin'!!!
Roman, did you TRY to do a German accent? ;) Enjoyed the video!
how about the 2l tdi with manual transmission? would be a whole lot cheaper
Nathan needs to go to octoberfest and get some of those german drinking pants....for reviews like this one, I was very entertained..
Has the Toureg got small than the original model?
guys do a video on roxor the mahindra vrhicle.... that is if you get it there for that matter do a comparison between lada niva , old wrangler, thar (roxor) and suzuki sidekick, old nissan jonga's

A Macan mechanically is an Audi Q5. I'm not sure how well it would handle out there.
Awesome review, by the way. :D the only thing I didn't like was all the close-up camera shots. :/
Music at 3:20?
What do you mean it's not fully loaded?.. What is it missing?
Diesel? Gas? Or hybrid?
Nathan -- are you originally from Pittsburgh?

At 9:15, you would observe the angle of the trees that are supposed to be vertical.
Diesels rule!
See the way pearls work with the dirt and the sunlight? This model only had the Moonlight Blue Pearl and Deep Black Pearl, to my knowledge :3
Has there a forget it ?
Is it as good offroad as the older touareg that you guys bought?
No because it doesn't have the air suspension and locking rear diff.
very cool

if I remember right in europe you can get locking diff's etc they just don't offer it for the us.

Furrrrrrt
Thumbs up to bring back the 5.0 V10 diesel they previously had.
One of the best SUV!
My '04 GTI was build in Brazil.
The Touareg is not offered for sale where I live.
They should test this against a Jeep Grand Cherokee. Also, I couldn't help but notice how loud the engine fan sounds from the outside.
Impressive..
Sucks how it is so hard to show angles and rough terrain offroad, you guys should really look into camera techniques to help with it..
I:think you've bumped your head, Mr. Jackson.
