Nice video Carlson Bros. That big guy would have looked even more impressive mounted. Good luck catching his older brother. I like Ken’s skinner knife and his table cleaner. Grandpa is smiling I’m sure.
Talking about large beaver, This fall in central Alberta Canada , I trap for a large city , which I have done for 28 years , and my heaviest weighted beaver was 84 lbs one day after it had hung to dry and that is weight at two different places , but so far this year I have caught three weighting in excess of 80 lbs , but they come out of a large river that is connected to a larger river system downstream , now the heavy ones are generally females not full of pups. It is not unusual to trap 60 plus ponders , apparently down east they do not get that large .so your beaver is a good size one ,! Good going fellas !
I caught a 67 pound female on the Green River above Green River, Wyoming my first year of trapping in '79. Good ol times, I miss um now a days at 70 years old.
Excellent job guys. I just put up an overall 80 inch beaver. It was on its way out only weighed 61 lbs but had to build a 8 inch wider than normal beaver board. A lot of fun
Good morning, chris and ken. Watching you guys reminds me of when i was young, "helping" my grandpa and uncle run their traps and skin the beaver. I remember they never cut the feet off. They just cut around the foot, the same as you, but then poked them through the hole as you skin around the leg and left the foot attached to the carcass. I guess there's more than one way to skin a beaver eh. Have a great weekend. Congrats on the beaver its a beauty.
a very good in depth informational video about this topic, first beaver and only beaver i have caught i messed it up, these tips will sure help me on my next beaver
Setting here watching Kenny skin the smaller beaver and thinking. I need to get out a few traps and go after dinner. Roasted beaver, beaver chili, and beaver burgers all sound good to me. For those of your viewers who have never eaten beaver. The smaller the better for roasting or putting in the slow cooker. Grind them up to about 25 lbs. I prefer to trim all of the beaver fat off and use pork or beef fat instead. And use every thing larger for bait or dog food. Thank both of you for taking the time to make this video. Have a great day.
Just caught my PR beaver at 70lbs (previous was 50lbs) the other day. Between hiking him out I had 20lbs of gear and my daughter (30lbs) in the otter sled. Wild to think they can get to such a size!
Thanks for watching, If you look on the channel I think I already have a fleshing one and if not one IS on the way. I shot it and just need to edit it.
my daddy would cut a hole in me, if i cut a hole in a beaver.... I hated having to skin all of his deaver. but i learned fast how to do it quick and without holes. Plus when i had to skin out wolves in the winter it really helped me with not making any cuts in a really expensive hide.
Do you guys ever skin the tails and get them tanned? I would love to do a project with the leather of a few of mine. I have heard they are difficult to tan though.
Most of the meat goes to a fur farm, some goes to our dad for his dog 600-700 pounds a year and we have eaten some and the good tails are sold to leather people. If you want to buy some get a hold of me we do sell them.
The new knife is a beauty, Ken! Did you feel like you were commenting yourself to another 30 years of skinning when buying it? The last one has sure been sharpened a lot! I see this round things shaped like a spool of fishing line that are put in a drill for around $45 bucks. They use them to sharpen the oscillating multi tool bits with the serrated teeth. Wonder if one of those would work on your disposable knives? I would think so...Thanks for sharing and again, Congratulations on these tanks!🦫🦫
I would sure like to get a new Dunn knife.. I had an improved skinner for many years that the blade had corroded inside the handle. Was the best skinning knife I've ever had. All I could find was a facebook page and didn't get a hold of anyone. Do you have updated contact info for them?
I still can't get the thought of eating beaver I always thought they were like a giant rodent if it's like beef or rabbit I mean I like beef and rabbit but it's been years since I've had rabbit and I've never tried beaver
I look forward to winter just so I can wear my beaver hat. The best hat I have ever owned! Thanks Chris and Ken for keeping traditions alive and well.
Glad we can keep you warm
Thanks!
Hi Chris and Kenny!!😀😀

That was one huge beaver!! Also that was the best use for a Busch Light I have ever seen!👍🏻👍🏻
Yes it was! And I agree!
So that's what they use Busch Light for.... 😀

Thanks Larry!

Yes Sir it is. It is hanging over my desk, as I hooped it back then with Willow branches taken from the area it was caught. 🤓

Wow...that is a monster!!! Not like cub bear more like a POPA BEAR!
That tail would make some great wallet’s and they are tough
Yup!

Great video. Skinning 50-60 a night is impressive.
Yes it was! But now we like to sell them whole.
Thanks for the beavers trapping videos and skinning demo. Would like to see a fleshing demo. Glad to see a channel with the same interests as mine.
Thanks for watching, If you look on the channel I think I already have a fleshing one and if not one IS on the way. I shot it and just need to edit it.
That Dunn knife is the best blade shape I’ve seen . I convert all my beaver tail skinners to that shape
Yup, it is nice to use!
Nice I’ve got 9 over 50 lbs this year on the snake river by Blackfoot Idaho but no one traps them anymore cause of fur price
That is a bunch of big ones!
I would send ya pictures but it won’t let me for some reason
You make it look so easy. I need more knives.
You never have enough knives
It’s your blanket beaver for the 101 . Good polar bear bait beaver 🦫 in the 709 😊 ken .
Yup,l it was a good one.
Beautiful
Thanks!!!

Holes are bad especially on you!
Ken that little knife for for tomatoes 🍅. 😮
Or skinning!
I was going to comment on Ken's shirt, but I guess ress it won't bother him! Nice beaver
Thanks.
Do you guys ever skin the tails and get them tanned? I would love to do a project with the leather of a few of mine. I have heard they are difficult to tan though.
We have sold a bunch of them for that, we like to trap not tan so much.
My dog LOVES beaver, especially the tail. What do you do with all the tails?
Most of the meat goes to a fur farm, some goes to our dad for his dog 600-700 pounds a year and we have eaten some and the good tails are sold to leather people. If you want to buy some get a hold of me we do sell them.
I had beavers girdle two big oaks in my creek.
Yup,l they will kill trees for sure!

Yup he has to trap 30 more years now!
@outofthewoodyard 30 more!!😮💪 Do you know what I am talking about with the sharpener? If not, I can email an Amazon link...
I live here in Upstate New York close to the Adirondacks my biggest fever what is 72 lb
Wow, that is huge!
Cheese whiz for horse'ovirs 😂😂
Yup, just like.
Where do you get that white plastic material for the top of your skinning table ? Thanks for the great content.
Forgot to ask what the material is actually called.
The dump. It is just a laminated chunk of old countertop.
Counter top.

Minnesota trap supply or FnT trapping supply.
Thank you!@@outofthewoodyard
Sombrero size. 👍
Yup!
What do you do with the carcass and meat?
Most goes to a fur farm, some is used for bait and a bunch goes to feed the dog. It also makes good jerky!
Hello, do you cook the meat of caught beavers or throw it away....
Either goals for dog food or bait and we do we eat some
It all gets used. Bait, dog food, ranch fur farm food and we have eaten it too.
Busch lite= it will also clean your guts out!!!
Yup, my brother is very good at that!
Do you eat Beaver? If so, show us your dish.
Loins on the grill
Yes we have, maybe some day we will do that!
buy yourself a good sharpening steelk! Your knife would last a lot longer!
Yup, we have a few of them.
What do you save the tail for?
They make leather out of it with the big ones.
@outofthewoodyard Really? I didn't know and I've trapped some giants. Who do you sell them too? Do you skin them a certain way?
How much do you get for Beaver hide
Size and quality matter but $20-40ish
Are beaver hats warm at all?
Very very very, the only time I can where mine is if it is below zero and I am not moving.
@@outofthewoodyard I had no idea
The meat is no good, and do you sell the hide?
The meat is good, we eat some but most is fed to the dog and used for bait. Yes the hides are sold, the fur is shaved off for making cowboy hats.
@outofthewoodyard really, thank you. I learned something. Could you recommend someone who makes them. Thank you.
Biggest ive gotten is 70lbs
That is huge!
Beaver meat is delicious 😋
It really is!
You all eat any of that?
Yup, beaver is a lot like beef. But most is for dog food and fur ranch food and bait.
Thanks for responding
what does beaver actually taste like
Kind of like beef/rabbit.
I still can't get the thought of eating beaver I always thought they were like a giant rodent if it's like beef or rabbit I mean I like beef and rabbit but it's been years since I've had rabbit and I've never tried beaver
👍🏻👏🦫🔪💲
