Excellent job guys, it would have taken me twice as long to do that. Can't wait for your spring trapping videos to start. Thanks for sharing this with us.
I had no idea you had another channel. I've watched you firewood channel. Just wanted to add to this video. I both clean skin and rough skin depending on the day's catch. Though if I rough skin, I still clean skin the head past the neck. I also clean skin around the legs. Less chance of cutting a hole in the pelt while fleshing.
Chris and ken look 👀 like 👍 HAMMER FUR or case let call it BEAVER 🦫 WOOD 🪵 lol .My grandfather and father probably call it RAM PIPE WOOD 🪵 that want there use for skinny there furs . 😊
I’ve only seen about 3 of your videos thus far, they’re appreciated! I really enjoy watching them and learning. I’m one of the guys who doesn’t know anything yet. Appreciate you guys, some of the best videos I’ve seen in terms of helpfulness.
Congrats, that's a Toad of a beaver! If you sell to Groenewold Fur all you need to do is skun them. Only a minimal amount less and no additional time on your part.
Yup, we have sold to them before...never again. We do way better with a different guy. And we only skin and flesh and stretch about 100 beaver a year for hats and tanned hides to sell. The other 400ish we sell in the carcass to our fur buyer.
Any story that starts with I traded skunk essence for this back in 1987, is well worth listening to😂. Thanks for the lessons on wrestling and fleshing a big 🦫
Ken you got to sharp tools , like a sharp chain on your chainsaw . Dexter knives are my favourite for skinnier and green river knives on skinning moose , WAGU and beef . Wet stone first and finsh with a good steel on knives. 😊
IDK...You all look like ya know what you are doing to me! Kenny didn't cut through in a single spot on his first one of the season, and it was huge! Could you show how you sharpen all your tools sometime, please? One of our local pest control companies caught a 72.8 pounder in the hospital retention pond last week. They posted a picture of it on their FB and whoever guessed the closest won a $100 gift card to a local restaurant. My guess of 65.2 came up a tad short! Thanks for sharing,Gentlemen!
Oh I sure like your content you guys, I use the same beam. Probably got it at the same time in Fon du lac,NTA, You guys are the real deal, I've been a trapper for about 55 years myself. Keep up the good work.
The bottom leg holes and the portion that would lead to the tail always give me the hardest time. Just a thick layer of grissle/fat to contend with. Very cool video though!
Just a tip. I use that same exact setup but I go to harbor freight and get them spring loaded clamps and clamp the hide to the fleshing beam so I’m not always fighting the weight. Heck of a beaver!!! Love these videos
Kenny says he is not a pro flesher. Pretty darn good I’d say. You guys are so right about nature, you better be tough or run really fast. See ya next week.
What do you do with all the trim? I was wondering if I might mix in some predator bait solution and use it for yote bait.
Yup, it is great bait!
My fleshing beam is mounted on a 2 x 12 that I stand on while fleshing. It keeps the fleshing beam rock solid!!!
Nice!

Thanks for showing us. It's really neat to me how much as a collective (human race as a whole) we know, and there is always something new to learn..
Yup, everyone know something you don't!
All I know about fleshing is that I would have had it full of button holes.
It happens!
Ahh… I always like to stretch a good large beaver! Lol 😂
Yup.
Very good stretching beaver hides yep we do the same here ( ty Ron
Nice! Thanks!

Just keep sharpening.

Thanks, that's a good place to start, do you touch up the push side also, or leave it along

Yes it was!
Good morning Chris and Kenny!!😀😀
Nice beaver!!😀😀
Good morning!
Try fleshing a badger. That will make you question your sanity.
Yup.
I've heard that we can't kill them here
I'm just curious why do they knock points off for scares if it doesn't hurt the fur?
For certain products it does not matter but some uses it does make a difference.
During the tanning process the scars can open up into holes
This video makes me appreciate my hat even more!!
Yup, beaver are work!
What type of wood do you use for the boards?
Basswood is best.
