Season 8, Episode 8, "Mr. Monk Goes to Group Therapy": When Monk's (Tony Shalhoub) insurance company refuses to pay for more individual therapy sessions, Monk joins Dr. Bell's (Hector Elizondo) therapy group, where somebody appears to be murdering his fellow patients.

Monk Synopsis: Adrian Monk (Emmy®-winner Tony Shalhoub) was once a rising star with the San Francisco Police Department, legendary for using unconventional means to solve the department's most baffling cases. But after the tragic and still-unsolved murder of his wife, Trudy, the devastated Monk becomes obsessive-compulsive. His psychological disorder has caused him to develop an abnormal fear of virtually everything: germs, heights, crowds... even milk. Monk's condition costs him his job, but he's back as a police consultant despite the unique challenges he encounters in his everyday life. These challenges lead Monk to hire a personal nurse, Sharona Fleming (Bitty Schram), who is always there to offer her assistance, even with the simplest of tasks (like organizing his sock drawer). Her less-than-subtle prodding keeps the "defective detective" on track in his investigations, as well as in his efforts to convince Captain Stottlemeyer (Ted Levine) to allow him to return to the force.

For those who don't know, Monk's insurance was no longer able to support the premium service of one-on-one therapy sessions with Dr. Bell, so Monk was put into a therapy group for a much lower price. Of course, Monk hated that he had to be in the group, so was "happy" to find out the people in the group were being killed off.
In the end, with some group members being killed and the rest quitting the group, Monk was able to have his one-on-one sessions with Dr. Bell under the guise as a "group of 1".

So am I as that was hilarious.

Man, Randy is such a lovable doofus. I think they could have been a bit less over-the-top with it at times and given him a few serious moments as well as some times where he might help solving the crime, but even so, Randy is a great character. Just gotta love him. The actor did such a fantastic job, as all the actors on that show, really.
In the first season, it was like that.
He actually figured out part of a case Monk couldn't at one point. They do give him serious moments once a century, it's just a bit too rare.
He's all business when it's time for the arrest!
And then you’ve got Psych, where Shawn is basically Monk’s genius and Disher’s incompetence both cranked up to 11.
He was all business in that one episode where the captain was shot.
Here’s a tip: When a room is full of poison gas that has just killed someone, don’t stand in that same room having a long conversation.
Can't be helped. Especially when Monk says "Here's what happened..."
2nd tip...never pick up any item...you will contaminate the scene
its only chlorine. They let you swim in that stuff if you're rich
Randy's theories are sometimes correct. The killer in New York City did kill an ambassador to switch coats. But no one considered it until Monk suggested it.
He's usually pretty close
And then there was that time he witnessed a murder in the dentist’s office but no one believed him cuz he was sedated
This is one of the most underappreciated funny set ups for an episode out there hahahahah.

The opposite of a spider is obviously someone who dunks his chips into the shared dip after he already took a bite of them.
Because "redips" is the opposite of "spider".

My favorite part from this episode Harold n Monk work together 'This trunk is protecting us from all the bad stuff " "Okay, you ready?" 1,2 3, charge, "Whaat?" They see the guy confessing what he did to Dr. Bell
Note: "The opposite Killer" guy is the SAME PERSON who brought us "The Lipstick Assasin"

How the rocket scientist kills him does not matter.
One of the most unrealistic things in every episode is a police captain not swearing at Randy.
More unrealistic is Randy still being employed in homicide unit instead being lowest rank patrolman in some totally unimportant place.
Well if I had to guess the opposite of a spider is a worm. No legs, no exoskeleton, no eyes, some can spin webs, and hairless.

I hated how Natalie sat right by the chlorine/ammonia after they already knew what it was. Bad move on both their parts.

First time I’ve watched this episode, I was at my friend’s house. He has the Collection of the Monk Series, and showed me the sequel episodes which had me curious before I saw them. So the first time I saw this, it was almost pretty difficult to understand what was going on with the victims being killed mysteriously as Randy described them being opposite killings (Pretty ridiculous, but funny Satellite Disher.) 😄
I watched a few more times to get a refresher, then I understand completely of what was happening.
This episode is what had me believed that rerunning can refresh and grow memory banks. 🧠💭💡
Monk is just as good upon rewatch because once you know the ending/have seen it already you can fill in the blanks better upon another viewing.

Mixing bleach (sodium hypochlorite) and ammonia does produce a toxic compound (chloramine), but it's not chlorine and it's soluble in water, so not really a gas at room temperature either.

Monk is very fit. He dresses well. Cannot imagine an OCD person who would exercise regularly and dress impeccably well like that.
Really? Because that seems to be very on brand for someone with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. They aren’t collectively fat and lazy slobs. Exercise can be an obsessive compulsion, and dressing well can also be a compulsion.
