  • I try out the new prototype Takomo IGNIS D1 driver. How does this driver stack up against the hugely popular Takomo irons? Find out what I like and what I don't.

If you're open to doing another video on this, I think it would be helpful to hit some with your "gamer" driver to establish a baseline. Thank you for doing the people's work!!

agreed - that way we can see if you are swinging it well that day and all drivers are performing, or shaky that day and no drivers are performing.

That is a beautiful head. I’m a huge fan of a traditional looking head and this checks the box. I am going to try this out. Thanks for sharing.

Very G425 Max looking, especially the sole and movable weight section. With no turbulators. I actually like it.

I purchased one of the Prototypes this summer. I have the 9.0 degree model. I am impressed with the performance of the driver. I'm getting my top end distance from it pretty consistently and the dispersion is narrow so I am finding fairways more often.
Adjusting it was quite easy. I did feel like some information on the adapter and settings would have been helpful, like an email with a link to a tutorial?
To my horror the shaft - hzrdous smoke 5.0 50 grams mid spin - snapped after about a month of regular use. I sent pictures of the break and was very pleased to learn the warranty covered the replacement. I received a new shaft, with the stock grip and a new adapter included within 2 weeks. I was happy to discover I would not have to bear any repair costs. This was my first DTC experience and it has been as comfortable as I could have hoped. I am seriously considering buying a set of their irons for next golf season.

The adjustable shaft cog is a major bonus!!!! This means you can play around with loft settings without having to regrip! Nice!!!!

Agree with you. I know you were talking about those Callaway adapters. I don't like those either.

I would love this adapter type on a TM head. The ability to lower loft without changing face angle would nice!

I have the Ignis (Latin for Fire) driver too, and I have the Hzdrus blue in 5.5. The thing I found was that with the counterbalanced shaft, I needed to put in the 25 gram weight in order to bring it to D1 swing weight. With the 15 gram, the swing weight was C4! Overall, I am also a fan of this driver, which with the 65 gram shaft is actually about 10 grams lighter than my Cobra Speedzone with a 55 gram shaft. Very happy with it and it's staying in the bag.

Not having to turn the shaft when changing hosel setting is VERY good. Callaway has that.

I got the Ignis D1 9.0 degree driver as well after having loved the 101T irons ans Skyforger wedges. I find it looks incredibly closed at address and just makes me feel its going to hook. And no alignent aid on the crown isn't particularly helpful. The sound i find to be fine, i was worried it would be tingy but wasnt at all.

This new Ignis driver looks strangely similar to my Ping G410. I'd try it just to see whether it behaves the same way as well.

Have their irons, glad to see the driver. Great review, first I've seen. Thank you.
Probably will to have the lottery win before I can buy any more equipment now, sure would like the driver match with the irons though.
Maybe they will get a fairway wood prototype coming. Hybrid maybe.
Dream, dream, hope them the best, and you too.
    Thanks again on your thoughts.

Good looking driver, performes well, sounds great, but at $359.00 doesn't sound heavily discounted. Golf had become to expensive. Nice review.
