  • The idea had merit, but in the long run, lacked longevity and support.
    Former IHRA President Billy Meyer had the vision to simplify sportsman drag racing, and in one fell sweep kicked the popular Modified, Super Stock and Stock eliminators to the curb They were replaced by indexed bracket divisions ranging from 7.90 to 12.90 indexes.
    Meyer wanted to simplify the explanation of grassroots racing to the casual race fan.
    The plan was Factory Modified.

    Who ever did those engines to run that fast, absolutely amazing for today’s standard. We truly got to thank those guys who worked to get horsepower on those engines. They were the pioneers of understanding airflow in cylinder heads & intake manifolds. The fiberglass intake is a giveaway knowing its durability. The ease of adding & removing material on a flow bench is a lot easier than working sheet aluminum. They used a 4150 flange 750 body Holley carb! The retired nascar guys helped with that class of racing back then. Amazing.

    why in the heck does NHRA and others not have more of these classes.

    • @fsca72
      @fsca72 4 года назад +3

      It’s money. These classes are cost effective when they are originally thought up. It’s a more affordable to build a race car. But as time goes an teams find more loopholes in the rules, including the Nhra not nipping these problems in the butt. It becomes to expensive, then there is little completion in a class that don’t get much public spotlight (same guys with deep pockets winning every weekend) instead of fixing it they just disband it since the nhra feels their losing money. This happens at local race tracks specially at dirt ovals

    • @eldiablort1461
      @eldiablort1461 4 года назад +1

      Because America as a whole doesn’t love cars like they used to. This is due to a myriad of concerns, including the forwarding of man made climate change theory, and of course money. Manufacturers don’t do racing hardly anymore because for the bottom line, there’s not a lot of ROI..and that’s because of the degradation of car culture.
