Tony Christian is a great racer and one hell of a guy. Me and all my buddies used to buy our parts from him at Grand Automotive back in the day, and if he liked you he would “tighten you up”! He even came to my house once to help me with a problem I was having. I don’t know if he will ever see this, but I want to publicly say “thank you” for all of your help and patience with a bunch of high school guys that really didn’t know too much.
RIP Tony “The Hurricane” Christian. I was just watching him today on one of my World Street Nationals VHS videos. It doesn’t seem that long ago that he was winning a bunch of Super Pro Street races in Orlando.
We raced against Tony in NMCA. My brother owned the 69 GTO with Randy Adler driving. Tony was a fun guy to be around, always talking crap but in a respectful way, just having fun. I remember he came into our trailer after we had made a pass to watch the video. We could never keep the front end of that GTO on the ground. Every gear shift it was back up in the air. lol. Tony watched it and asked, "what is that"?. the comment after was something to the effect that its hard to steer them when the front wheels aren't touching the ground. We asked him if he could tell us something we didn't know. Those were some good days. Nothing but respect for Tony. RIP
I only got to know him after he was done in Pro Stock, and He Came over to NMCA, NSCA Pro Street Stuff, He Was A Character ! Very Friendly, and always welcomed me into his pits! R.I.P.
My best memory of tony Christian was the 1999 world street nationals on vhs at Orlando speed world he said he was gonna win it and he did absolute legend
Knew Tony back in the day when he ran out of the "Grand Automotive" shop in Des Plaines, IL. His biggest rival then was the guys out of the "Motor Sports Research" camp across the street, one hell of a driver and racer!
Tony "The Hurricane"- definitely one of my favorite pro street drivers! I just watched my 96 World Street Finals VHS this morning haha, kind of cool you guys found that footage
Seen Tony a bunch back in tha day at NMCA's & stuff. Talked to him in Hattisburg,MS at Fat Tues one yr him & Musi were runnin best of 3. I asked if he had Musi coverd he said "Hell,iv chased bigger turds than that around tha bowl before!" Never forget it. Funny as shit. Cool ass dude...him & Musi both.
I always enjoyed watching Tony Christian either racing or doing an interview. Much of John Force's antics seem contrived while Tony just seemed to be Tony, telling it like he believes it to be, and most likely is. Rock you like a hurricane!
I remember meeting Tony Christian in the late 90s at an NMCA race in Rockingham. He had just surveyed the engine damage of his red 57 Pro Street Chevy and decided to put in the backup engine. He looked at the group of us standing there and hollered at me to come help him drag the beams out of his trailer that he made his crane setup with. He was quite a character and made NMCA the fun organization it was.
I always liked him, and the rivalry between him and Musi.. and I thought the pro street racing was the best! Right next to pro stock, 💪🏻🤘🏻. RIP Mr Tony..
Watched Tony race back in the day when he was buying parts from Belmont Automotive in Palatine, Illinois and ran MP in Wisconsin. He was a hard working guy, kept his nose to the grindstone and won a LOT of races! Yes, a 57 then too..5.13 gears and a 4 speed!
It always looked like he was having fun, I really never got the jerk impression from the old diamond p interviews i have seen. Awesome video of one of my favourite underdog racers!
I agree and it shouldn't be about the money racing is about the passion for real I would take part in the sport with no money involved you have to have that passion to have fun 💯🙏🙌🔥💣🔑👨👩👧👦🧘👩🔧👩🎓👩⚕️
,,,,,,,,,,,,,Luv the screamin voice of the great ,,,Al Tucci,,,,Today Jason Galvin for NHRA as a commentator has the potential to be as loud as AL............
Only a handful of drag racers can "Tape together all the boxes that the parts come in, & beat you senseless w/them, on the drag strip, & Tony, you did that, & we seen it, & ur truely 1 of those few guys that could play the game, & still turn 'off' the "its all business" switch, after the race's & laugh bout what happened, & keep moving ahead. When you outran the guys you bought engs $$ from, & finish higher in the NHRA Points Championship than your eng builders, who raced as well, & very well! What more can you say about this man? Prolly the only drag racer that "Mad Dog" ever "liked". Cuz Tone is so real, that if you cant deal with "reality", your prolly not gonna like being around him. On the other hand, he can be the kindest- give his shirt off his bk to you, kinda guy. At the same time, dont mess w/him. He ran his best, against the best, how funny is that! Indy, '87 I thk..?? #17 to 60ft, then #2 to the 1/8 mile mark...U knew how to make Willie Rells car haul a$$. Tony always knew a few things of his own that, that made him a threat, every time an opponent lined up in the other lane w/him. The best days should always be in front of us, but Im missing those old days, when everyone could share a few laughs in the pits during a race, the days of Tony, BG, Lee, Bruce, Butch, Frankie, Nicholson, & the rest of that '80s P/S gang that were around. Tony, your a 1 of a kind guy, in that group of racers, in all ur yrs of racing, that cannot be replicated or replaced. God Speed "Mad Dog", RIP, & God Bless you Tone! Thx for all those great racing memory's. Who can forget when U, Coleman, & Harold handed out Butt Kickin ET slips to P/S! Awesome driving Hurricane! Id take U @ 75, for my driver.
Where is it now? I know it might be too late to retrieve it, but that was my grandfather's drag car. Stan Shaw the man who built it and sold it to Tony. My father has been looking for it ever sense Stan past away form a motorcycle accident.
He's the BEST ... maybe because he's my Brother❤️

You hear all these great drivers in this series and not one of them would really race today. To serious, to much money and really no fun.
