When Gray Densham came to Australia... Australia vs USA funny car Challenge... He gave my sister an American Dollar note... She still has it today.... That was EPIC... Thanks for you time Mr Densham... My sister and I still talk about it today....
Remembering auto shop at Gahr High. And Dr. Hanford Rants. Also remember Mr. Densham’s story of his old Studebaker on Bandini Blvd (and the beet field - ‘nuff said). He is and was a great storyteller. His explanation of what happens in the combustion chamber is classic.. He busted me drawing his portrait on the desk in pencil. He almost didn’t want it removed, but I had to go get a paper towel and that dam powder soap and clean the desk. He appreciated quality. He was so impressed, he had me clean all the desks in the classroom. At least I didn’t get whacked by his pointer stick! Just sharing good memories. Great to see him out doing what he truly loves. Wow, were we lucky to have him as our auto shop teacher. Learned a lot of very practical ways of maintaining/repairing vehicles. He made the most of what was available.
FACT: The mold was broken never to be equaled after Gary Densham was cast! ...Drag Racer / Teacher / Legend... What I learned from Gary, Richard, Greg & Ed about craftsmanship, attention to details, wrenching, drag racing and the history behind all of these during the years I worked for Gary could fill the Grand Canyon and I am forever grateful for!!
Finally I hear mention of E.J. Potter there is so little Video on his Windowmaker Motorcycles . If I ever met any of you old time Drag racers I was going to ask out him.. R.I.P. He has quite an impressive career in Tractor pulling in the 1970's and 1980;s .. He has a great book and a Great Video on some of his stuff.
Happy New Year! Thank you, Gary, the sponsors, featured car owners and all those involved in the efforts and production of this channel. May the new year bring you, your families and friends much health, wealth, happiness and peace.
I knew that John's first race was in Australia but never knew anything about what happened until I watched this video. Thanks Gary. I'll assume you won the race.
I can remember Gary in AUSTRALIA in the 70's - back when racing was not BIG business - but lots of BIG flames - HA. Have a nice day all. CHEERS from AUSTRALIA.
Man I used to go to what was SIR, to the fox hunts and 64 funny cars, I lived at the track, loved the half track burnouts John used to do too much fun!!! those were the days!!!
Jerry Craig just went to that track (PR now) last year for my first event with my dad. I’m so glad he has always been into this shit as I was growing up. Can’t believe it took me til 22 to actually go. I fully appreciate and have spent way too much money on shit cause of it. I’ll be going every year for the rest of my life as long as I can
After john won the national he came out to a junk yard I was at and sat and shared stories with WHEELS ,larry , we bullshitted for hours and I didnt know who he was till later . Heck of a guy . It's sure Larry's still got the scuffed piston john gave him .
