    This has to be the best SUPER73 video bc it confirms SUPER73uk about getting momentum. I wonder how the OG will do on these same hills since it has more torque in the beginning than top end.

  • @super73uk

    Another great video and very well explained! 👌👌
    We have never seen so many hills in one video but you proved the point perfectly
    This should help a lot of riders understand what is going on and how to try and get up hills.
    28-30Mph (flat level surface, no tail wind, average weight rider, fully charged battery, etc, etc) has always been the "norm" for the top speed on a bike with a geared hub motor running at only 48v.
    To get a 48v geared hub motor to go 32Mph on a bike that only has 20 inch wheels usually means you have to put less windings on the motor BUT the downside of putting less windings on the motor is that you reduce the torque of the motor.
    Having watched & listened to the new R, RX & S2 owners including yourself (excluding all of those who are telling BS about how their bike can go almost 40Mph and is faster than a rocket when pulling away!) we now suspect that less windings is exactly what has been done to the new motors. This would explain why people are saying that the bike is not rapid at pulling away but once it gets up to around 8 or 10Mph (after it gets some momentum) it then starts to pull.
    With regards to the motor, because Super73 will not say what the motor spec actually is or tell us who makes the motor (750w? 1000w? 1,200w? How much torque it has? etc) then it's difficult to be sure but our guess is that the torque of the motor is going to be around 85 Newton-Metres at best.
    A carrot has been dangled saying that the motor torque can be improved by some "magical" ota firmware upgrade - unless we are proved wrong then we really don't think so!
    We believe that if you are looking for more speed & acceleration then you will need to increase the voltage for sure and if you want more torque then you will have to replace the motor for one with more windings and you would most likely also have to fit a new controller & display as well.
    Please don't misunderstand us, we think they have done an amazing job on the new bikes but there are limits as to what can be done when you are only running at 48v and have 20 inch wheels so it is always going to be a trade off between speed & torque and it looks like they have edged towards speed.
    Have you tried the bike on sand yet (wet & dry sand) as that would be a really good test to see how much torque the bike has?
    Thank you for sharing this video because we are looking to get the RX so for us we are really interested in what the bike is really like. Do you think having the 10 speed gears would make much difference going up hills on the R or is the single gear low enough already?

    • @TheFrickinShredder
      @TheFrickinShredder  4 года назад +1

      Thanks for the kudos! Glad to be of help!! Thanks for all the technical information. I haven't tried sand yet. I DEFINITELY think added gears - especially in the lower range - would help tremendously in terms of getting up hills. The single gear we have on the R and RX is simply too high.

      Any idea on the size of the controller on the RX yet ?

    • @super73uk
      @super73uk 4 года назад

      Yes - Extra small, lol! (We are joking folks so please remain seated!)
      Our best guess would be that we expect it to be somewhere between 35A to 40A but as yet we have not seen one in the flesh so we will reserve final judgement for now.

    • @super73uk
      @super73uk 4 года назад +1

      @@icedave2004 The controller on the S2/R/RX is fitted under the seat so it could be/should be at least 40A max because they are saying the bike is 2000W in "unlimited mode" and for that to be true then the controller would have to have an output of at least 40A (41.67A to be more precise)
      We are waiting with interest for some nice person who owns an R bike to take a picture of the controller showing the rating label so we can put this "2000W" issues to bed one way or another!!

    So I'm thinking of buying one of these because I'm legally-blind and had to stop driving a few years back, but I can see okay to ride a bike. Getting tired of having to walk everywhere because I live in a remote area.
    If you took yours to Castaic Lake and started at the stop sign at the intersection of Lake Hughes Rd and Ridge Route Rd, could you actually make it the 24 miles to Lake Hughes from there, just going one-way? Not at top speed or anything, just... will it make it?
    I'd really love to know. If it can do that I'd probably buy one tomorrow.
