Just wanted to address something that I should have probably said in the video. I know some people aren't happy with me putting this on Airbnb because they see it as an unethical move given the shortage of affordable homes. I totally understand that concern, but want to explain the thinking behind my decision. Of course, I'm very aware that there is a lack of affordable housing right now, but this house simply does not fit into that 'affordable' category. It's a one bedroom tiny house with no garden and has been recently been revalued at 'offers over £160,000' if I were to put it up for sale (it's a unique property in an expensive village). If you go just five minutes away from me in any direction, there are three bedroom detached houses with gardens and garages currently up for sale for £160,000. On a slightly less black and white point, this was previously an abandoned building that no one was using. I didn't buy a pre-existing family home and remove 'stock' of housing in the area. If my reasoning seems warped, please, feel free to call me out in a reply to this. I just wanted to share my view on my specific situation.

For me it’s about choosing Airbnb as a platform - it’s the least ethical holiday let site available. If you’re going to do it, how about choosing a platform that pays full tax in the UK?

Great idea about the airbnb! My little suggestion: I've stayed in lots of airbnbs and one thing I've noticed: often they have very well-equipped kitchens (essentials such as oil & vinegar, spices etc are always appreciated) but there are no empty shelves for food purchased by the guests. So you end up having to move things around in the cupboards to make space, or leave food on the counter. Same in the bathroom: last one I stayed at had everything I could possibly need, but there was no where to put my own toiletries except right beside the sink. PS. Love your cat!
I love your little changes. I would recommend a couch/sofa that can convert into a bed if you have a couple travelling with a child etc (some form of 2nd bed) I'd also recommend some sensor lights for going up & down the stairs, and into the bathroom, they're really handy when you're not familiar with a property and it prevents having to fumble around in the dark to find a light switch. I'm getting married next year, and if I could talk my fiancè into going to Scotland for our honeymoon, I'd definitely want to stay here! (I'm from Geelong, Australia 🇦🇺)
I'm glad you have your mom to help you out with taking care of your place. As you said, it helps the both of you and it's good to have someone you can trust. 💞

My suggestion for some decorating ideas for your Air BnB would be a few Scottish accents i.e. tartan cushions and/or throw rug, pictures or paintings of local countryside or landmarks and a thistle & heather (?artificial) flower arrangement….? You appear to have a lot of international followers, like myself, and it’s nice to immerse ourselves in the local atmosphere when travelling. 🏴

The stairs looked lovely with the see through anti slip thingys. Don't put too many items out to spruce it up, they tend to walk away. Blackout blinds, yes, good idea. Also a book telling your guests where everything is located. You should do well with this, especially with your Mom's help. Happy Belated Birthday! Great seeing more of Junior. I belong to a fast-growing group of people who are allergic to perfume. When I stay in an airbnb apartment the first thing I do is put all the potpourri in a sealed cupboard and open the windows. These chemical perfumes are the worst. I also have problems with sleeping in sheets washed is perfumed washing detergent. If you eliminate perfumes in your place you will probably attract more people. You can say your apartment is allergy-free! Love your videos!!

I did not want to put rubber mats on the steps, and I am going to look into those see-through stair grips. Thank you for the idea! I am looking to build/buy a tiny house. I almost bought a small house, big enough for two people, but I would have had to invest almost €75,000.00 just to get it in order and the previous owners were asking way too much for the house. The alcove problem sounds similar to previous issue in my house . Turns out the plasterboard was touching the old external stone and joiner rectified it . Love following you and Junior's journey 👍 Xx

You have to report every one from the instigator to the last responder. I despise them and happily take the time to make them go away. And they did disappear when I reported them but as soon as I left the thread they are back. RUclips needs to step it up and get rid of this stuff.

She flops herself in between myself and the computer. Additionally, she noses my fingers away from the keyboard when I try to type. She likes attention.
Junior is probably one of the cutest, most cartoon-ish cats I’ve ever seen in real life…(though, I guess I’ve never really seen her in real life). You two make a great pair. Plus, I like her name. It’s kind of like mine (JR).

Great idea! I think its been mentioned but either mention that a cat has been in the house or welcome pets on your ad. We do a lot of holiday lets and my husband is super allergic to cats, dogs, birds, horses you name it. He is asthmatic so no feather duvets or pillows either and no smelly stuff. I suppose better to just check with anyone booking what if any allergies they might have. Best of luck with your new venture and its a great idea to employ you mum, win win for both of you.

No, 29 is not despicable! And using the home as an Air BnB sounds clever and I hope that you make some money after the costs of dealing with it are paid. And that was smart to take care of the stairs. If you ever decide to put in a runner, it would cushion Junior if she ever falls off the railing.
No need to justify your decision. You have done an amazing job with the house and you can do absolutely anything with it that you want. Don't listen to people saying anywise.
aww i love that you got such nice christmas presents for the kitties. Ours got little catnip toys shaped like sushi's for christmas and a scratch pad with nip. Also the part of you making the bed was some of the best! It's so cool that your Mom can work with you on this. It seems like you have a really lovely close knit family.

Long term, in the house I bought with my brother. I'll live in it whilst the work is getting done. If things are really unliveable there I can drop into the spare room at my parents for little periods though.

For the alcove with the popery, you could always put another small plant in that space, some antique artifacts are always an eye catcher or even some fun funky vases - they don't have to have plants in them just the vases are nice decor! A word of advice. Airbnb is a lot of work. Even for a small place. Its a lot of cleaning and maintenance and reservation handling and guest interaction etc etc. Be prepared for that and dont be afraid to be selective about who you let stay. People paying for a service won't always respect it as your place. If you're fine with all that, have at it 😇

Suggestion: cover the mattress with a zippered mattress cover, It helps prevent bed bugs and other cootie transfer, and protects the mattress,

Your kitty is so darling! I like those accent lights, very nice, cozy feel to the "bookcase". And I have very similar stairs, and they can be very slick and dangerous. I did not want to put rubber mats on the steps, and I am going to look into those see-through stair grips. Thank you for the idea! I am looking to build/buy a tiny house. I almost bought a small house, big enough for two people, but I would have had to invest almost €75,000.00 just to get it in order and the previous owners were asking way too much for the house. So, I did not buy it. I am still searching, but not in Scotland/UK. I look forward to your next update on your new house! And I wish you so much success in making your dear home into an Airbnb.

The alcove problem sounds similar to previous issue in my house . Turns out the plasterboard was touching the old external stone and joiner rectified it .

@@jamie123b Report them. It's a known scam. One name posts something then a bunch of other fakers keep it going as if they are real people. You have to report every one from the instigator to the last responder. I despise them and happily take the time to make them go away. And they did disappear when I reported them but as soon as I left the thread they are back. RUclips needs to step it up and get rid of this stuff.
Oh right that's something I'll look into! Also, sorry about all the spam/bot accounts replying to you below this! Wish RUclips would catch them and remove them automatically.

The stairs look really nice and I am glad you like it too. The sticky things are great, I walked up our stairs with crutches after my knee surgery and didn't slip. You won't have anyone dying on your stairs ;-)

Really good plan to get your mum involved in the managing of it, especially given her previous experience. Also nice to see Junior assisting you there!
Great idea! I think its been mentioned but either mention that a cat has been in the house or welcome pets on your ad. We do a lot of holiday lets and my husband is super allergic to cats, dogs, birds, horses you name it. He is asthmatic so no feather duvets or pillows either and no smelly stuff. I suppose better to just check with anyone booking what if any allergies they might have. Best of luck with your new venture and its a great idea to employ you mum, win win for both of you.

No, 29 is not despicable! And using the home as an Air BnB sounds clever and I hope that you make some money after the costs of dealing with it are paid. And that was smart to take care of the stairs. If you ever decide to put in a runner, it would cushion Junior if she ever falls off the railing.
No need to justify your decision. You have done an amazing job with the house and you can do absolutely anything with it that you want. Don't listen to people saying anywise.
aww i love that you got such nice christmas presents for the kitties. Ours got little catnip toys shaped like sushi's for christmas and a scratch pad with nip. Also the part of you making the bed was some of the best! It's so cool that your Mom can work with you on this. It seems like you have a really lovely close knit family.

Long term, in the house I bought with my brother. I'll live in it whilst the work is getting done. If things are really unliveable there I can drop into the spare room at my parents for little periods though.
Air bubbles can some times be removed with a pin prick and the roller.

hi! I'm a designer and I love your house! For the alcove with the popery, you could always put another small plant in that space, some antique artifacts are always an eye catcher or even some fun funky vases - they don't have to have plants in them just the vases are nice decor! A word of advice. Airbnb is a lot of work. Even for a small place. Its a lot of cleaning and maintenance and reservation handling and guest interaction etc etc. Be prepared for that and dont be afraid to be selective about who you let stay. People paying for a service won't always respect it as your place. If you're fine with all that, have at it
