CHiPs - Ponch has a Karate battle with a gang leader from the old neighborhood

  • Since I had the final "showdown" from this episode's sequel, I thought it fitting to have the showdown from this episode as well.
CHiPs was the most non-violent cop show I can think of. No one ever really drew guns or fired a weapon and physical confrontations like this happened only very rarely.

That was a very well done fight. Even the A-Team, which was later than this, just featured punching, and then BA Baracus picking people up and throwing them. Ponch's skill with Nunchucks and poles means he found some spare time to go to the Valley and take lessons from Mr. Miyagi.

I see a few folks saying that the choreography is horrible, but considering that this was for television and during the early 1980's, I think the choreography and techniques are decent.
The second Karate episode, which is the sequel to this, had even better choreography.

Aiyaiyai, talk about third-drawer fight choreography. They could have borrowed some green belts from the local dojo for better fight scenes than this stuff. What I do like about CHiPs is that whatever was fashionable in the seventies was on the show: Disco, martial arts, roller skating, clothes. The show is a real time capsule.
