About 1:40 in or so... I was looking for Mama Partridge to come in and grab Danny by the ear and say something like, "Never mind these cops; you've got WORSE to deal with when we get home, young man!"
Fun stuff. The second of three martial-arts themed episodes of CHiPs. Interestingly, Danny Bonnaduce, best known of course from "The Partridge Family", actually is a black belt in real life. I hope these episodes become available soon on dvd, since right now, it's only the first season that's been released.
Finally found the answer to my question as to whether or not Erik Estrada studied Martial Arts or merely learned a few moves for this episode. ANSWER: Erik Estrada Erik Estrada - is an American born actor, author, and Producer. Estrada is best noted for his 6 year run on on prime time NBC TV; ChiPs, playing the lead role of officer Frank Poncherello. In 1978, Estrada began training in martial arts with SeishinDo Karate instructor Frank Argelander (aka Frank Landers) on the recomandation of actor >Woody Strode
Thanks. I'll probably check out the first season, anyway. Kind of a fun memory from my childhood, growing up in the '70's. The karate episodes, however, were always my favorites. Thanks again for posting.
There's only maybe three fight scenes in the whole series. I guess they thought it wasn't going to be that repetitive. :-) ChiPs was the most non-violent cop show. Guns almost never drawn, punches almost never thrown. This episode was one of the few exceptions.
I sometimes watched Chips when it was on tv. That, of course, was a long time ago. I don't recall seeing this episode. Does anybody know who the good guys are that teamed up with Ponch and Jon to fight the bad guys?
There is an extra in orange who throws some fancy tornado and wheel kicks who gets beat up by Jon twice and by Andy Macedon once. (Maybe the director figured viewers wouldn't notice their re using this same extra several times.) He did have clean kicks.
After he got knocked down by Jon the first time it is possible that he got back up into the fight but the second time he wouldn't have been able to get back so soon after getting hit by Andy's cane.
Since I don’t know the context of this scene, but it’s funny watching the guy in the sweater just sort of appear out of nowhere to help Ponch and Jon 🤣
The guy in the sweater was Andy Mastodon, who Ponch helped out in prison for a few years and beat him in a street fight as well. He turned into Mr. Clean and helped the good guys in his return episode :)
he was the "bad guy" in a previous episode who was the leader of the karate gang. in this episode he has reformed and is trying to make up for his past misdeeds.
Preview to Walker, Texas Ranger. Ironically, the person who played Ranger Trivette (Clarence Gilyard, Jr.) also played Officer Benjamin Webster on CHiPs in the final season.
most people probably still think so, but they are wrong. when i was 8 or 9, i took karate lessons. and even at that age i figured out this shit would never work in a real fight. 30 years later, along comes "UFC" and proves i was right.
I've been watching CHiPs since I was a little kid, (reruns of course), and I don't remember this episode. What was the name of this episode? I remember the original episode 'Karate', that was in Season 4. Anyone know?
Now this is what i called a real cops. Fighting fair also has good benefits: Show your true bravery, proved that you're not a bad cops, and most importantly you have honors in your hearts.🥋🥋🥋☯️☯️☯️
The actor who played Andy Macedon in two episodes of CHiPs passed away in 2018. He is the big guy absolutely demolishing the gang members in this scene.
Danny Bonaduce appeared on a show called "Whatever Became Of" after appearing on CHIPS dressed in his karate uniform and working out with his nunchucks. He said he`s going to be in a martial arts comedy but i never heard anything else about it after that. Would have been interesting.
Once in a blue moon Ponch and/or John would encounter a suspects attempt to resist arrest or flat out single them out but it didn't happen much. I always thought more fight scenes would have made an already great show even more edgy.
John messed up at the beginning this pier 6 brawl wouldve never happened if he would have said to heck with trying to cuff the guy right away and just went for the pinky toe takedown right out of the gates
No, martial arts fighters will usually win as they are better trained and in better physical shape. Street fighters advantages' are dirtier tactics and being unpredictable.
Love how the karate guys just stand there motionless and let Jon and Ponch get in their punches.
Most of them knew better.
Yeah, they knew better.
They studied karate and knew it wouldn’t work on ponch and John.
These must be the street toughs Kramer warned us about.
That was the most dangerous episode ponch and Jon ever faced, they earned their stripes that day.
wow considering the fact that ponch and jon never did this stuff regularly that was really good.
About 1:40 in or so... I was looking for Mama Partridge to come in and grab Danny by the ear and say something like, "Never mind these cops; you've got WORSE to deal with when we get home, young man!"
Considering when this was made it's a pretty good fight scene.
In a drug haze, Danny Bonaduce probably thinks that he is fighting some real cops
He hosts a morning drive radio show in Seattle, and seems quite proud when he talks about this episode.
Danny Bonaduce is a real black belt. He's got some good kicks and chuck use.
I hold my breath during this whole captivating fight.

Did he beat up or get beat up by a transvestite?
karate, with disco on mozart street. only on CHIPS!
Danny Bonaduce as Billy Rogers showing some awesome karate even if kicked down by his own self
I salute our brave officers who are trained to fight Kung Fu street gangs hand to hand combat . God bless them
😆BWAAAHAHAHAHAHALOL
That was good!! Thanks for a good gut laugh first thing in the morning to start my day. Gonna be a great day.
Yes, those Kung Fu street gangs were a huge problem back in the day!

"Why were you training with Frank Landers?" "He was my friend. You killed him. Now I'm going to kill you""Mr PARKER!"
Erik Estrada has a black belt in Bullshito. 😆
Danny leaves the Partridge Family and goes astray...
Lmao
Thanks. I'll probably check out the first season, anyway. Kind of a fun memory from my childhood, growing up in the '70's. The karate episodes, however, were always my favorites. Thanks again for posting.
Shocking violence that led to CHiPs being removed from television. I still suffer PTSD related illnesses after having viewed this.
love that the guy with the cane is wearing a very close resemblance to the westerly sweater from the big lebowski. Dude abides.
Bonaduce with nunchucks, there's no more lethal animal on the planet.
No match for a slug out of a powerful shotgun.
Definitely my fave CHIPS episode I think it was a 2 part episode

Baker's seventies hairdo never moves as he gets smacked around by Bonaduce's posse.
1/2 a can of aqua net will do that.
The First Appearance Of Jeff Lebowski's sweater.
Ponch fighting Danny Bonaduce with nunchucks??? It is a crime against humanity that this isn't available on dvd.
I can’t believe they still have their police super powers without their bikes or uniforms, so amazing 🤩
Jon once told someone he arrested for impersonating a police officer that being a cop comes from the inside, not from what you're wearing.
Kinda surprised that they still didn't carry their guns even though they were plainclothed.
I sometimes watched Chips when it was on tv. That, of course, was a long time ago. I don't recall seeing this episode. Does anybody know who the good guys are that teamed up with Ponch and Jon to fight the bad guys?
Question. Who is Andy in real life? I always thought he was the same guy who played the bad guy in the movie (Blue Steel) with Jamie Lee Curtis.
Hey! Lebowski sweater!
Take me back to the 70s, all the way back...back into time.

Is that badass Bonaduch? you better believe it is.
This would have made a great episode of the Partridge family. After getting beaten up by Ponch, his sister goes out with Ponch.
Cops Vs Gangsters fight should be always like this. No guns but punch + kick only!
Partridge Family shoulda never broke up!
Since I don’t know the context of this scene, but it’s funny watching the guy in the sweater just sort of appear out of nowhere to help Ponch and Jon 🤣

Andy really did turn over a new leaf. Billy...not so much. Most of the time, you can't teach an old dog new tricks.
...why did Ponch beat up Danny Bonaduce?
I used to like this scene for the fighting, but hated the premise. How would just two cops show up to arrest all those guys with no backup?
Well, well...Billy Rogers?! I didn't expect you to be soiling these parts this soon, huh?
The Cross and the Switchblade is what prepped Ponch for this....Pat
Boone helped....
Danny bonaduchie and Lewis van bergen were real martial artists.
Doesn't Ponch fight the tall dude who another episode?
Yes, the episode is Karate and the finale is in this link. ruclips.net/video/Tq3Myc6mDjo/видео.html
Back when everyone thought karate was real.
most people probably still think so, but they are wrong. when i was 8 or 9, i took karate lessons. and even at that age i figured out this shit would never work in a real fight. 30 years later, along comes "UFC" and proves i was right.
Martin Crove of Cobra Kai would’ve been a better pick of the Martial Arts gang.
Ponc changed shirts and jackets in that fight scene
Baker and Ponch were the original Ken and Ryu lmaoo
Billy Rogers kicks some serious ass! :) I love it U rule!
Who's Billy Rogers?
I think the only time a gun by CHiPs was drawn was by Bear.
That's correct
And he did it in two other episodes as well.
after the "fight" they are all laid out all over the sidewalk, but NOBODY is bleeding, or unconscious or injured in any way.
Beautifuly choreographed
Ponch the center of attention as always. 👍
The way he liked it.
Wow I didn't know Danny Bonaduce was into karate
Great episodes
Cool. However, aren't the karate episodes from Season 4? Oh well, I could be wrong & I'll check it out anyway. Thanks!
1:02 compliments on the spinning back fist!
That was actually a realistic scene.
I've been watching CHiPs since I was a little kid, (reruns of course), and I don't remember this episode. What was the name of this episode? I remember the original episode 'Karate', that was in Season 4. Anyone know?
A Threat of War.
Ponch finally kicks the crap out of Danny Bonaduce.
That fight was Foul

The actor who played Andy Macedon in two episodes of CHiPs passed away in 2018. He is the big guy absolutely demolishing the gang members in this scene.
He deserved it
Props to that dude, doing sick karate in his 70s English professor sweater 😆
@@johndeever And temporarily walking with a cane after Billy tried to run him over with a car.
Yeah, he basically made mincemeat out of them.
Lewis Van Bergen is the actor's name. He starred in the short-lived comic-book based adventure series Sable.
My goodness a TNT upload
Geez...Danny really went downhill after the partridge family
I wonder if forces tv will show the karate episodes it’s after the 9 o clock watershed so they might
Didnt Ponch in another episode fight the dude thats helping him and Jon
Yes, and they had a flashback of it in this episode.
Danny kicked ass
Danny B LOL he try but gat his ass kick LOL...
jon's attempt to arrest at 45 seconds was premature
Had some good form in those kicks
These gangsters look skinny compared today's gangsters
the dude abides with a cane
This just might be better than both the Godfather and Godfather part 2
LOL
Chips thought they were Starsky and Hutch
All 6 seasons are on dvd
Hey Danny, come on get whoopass...
Filmed in Highland Park, Los Angeles, CA.
The toughest gang in LA., the Mozart St. mofo’s.
Danny Bonaduce appeared on a show called "Whatever Became Of" after appearing on CHIPS dressed in his karate uniform and working out with his nunchucks. He said he`s going to be in a martial arts comedy but i never heard anything else about it after that. Would have been interesting.
Nice lebowski sweater
Danny Patrtidge, breaking bad...but him and his street thugs no match for the Chipsters!
Does anybody know why they don't want to release season 3 - 6 on DVD ?
Also why is the CHP doing patrol in the city instead of the highway ?
Thanks !
Because they are a full service police agency and can enforce any law anywhere in CA, even though traffic enforcement is their primary territory.
Erik Bunty Thanks for the reply Erik! Even if it took eight years for someone to give me an answer 😄😄😄 By curiosity, where do you live?
@@hectorlabbe I'm from Pennsylvania. You?

Wonder who’d win a fight between Ponch and Buck Rogers?
Is it really department protocol for two officers and two officers only to apprehend and arrest a group of people on the street corner?
John messed up at the beginning this pier 6 brawl wouldve never happened if he would have said to heck with trying to cuff the guy right away and just went for the pinky toe takedown right out of the gates
Larry Wilcox is a United States Marine and served in Vietnam before he was on chips so he already knows how to whoop some ass
And his character was also a Vietnam vet.
Wow .. interesting
What a lot of people don't realize is that street fighters can usually whip the butts of some of the martial arts fighters.
Always
No, martial arts fighters will usually win as they are better trained and in better physical shape. Street fighters advantages' are dirtier tactics and being unpredictable.
Danny's dressing room was a Chrysler New Yorker.
is that danny bonoduche? he is a blackbelt in some martial art
Eric Estrada so.....hot!!!!!Those times.....Greetings from Greece!!!!
Good series
These ones aren't on DVD (yet). Just wanted to let you know that if you want more CHiPs, they are available.
No one's hair was damaged or messed up in the filming of this clip.
UNCLE!!! UNCLE, UNCLE!!!!!
Danny partridge thug life
I had such a crush on Ponch!
Is the redhead Danny bonaduce?
The one and only.
