  • We've only got a few episodes left of the Chibnall era of Doctor Who with Jodie Whittaker in the title role, the most airing being the third in the Chibnall Dalek trilogy. You guys voted 'Eve of the Daleks' as the best of the three on my community tab, but I'm thinking the first in this three-part saga takes the top spot.

It’s funny that in a few years the young adult companion will have the perfectly acceptable reason to not know about stolen earth dalek events: they might not have been born yet

really hit the nail on the head as to why Resolution is one of the stronger doctor who stories for the whole series

  • @fletcherhamilton3177

Narratively I think _Resolution_ is fine. I’d have changed little about it (except the primary cast).
Edit - yeah, I agree that the Daleks’ affinity for ultraviolet light was initially badly portrayed (though it’s a good idea). The teleport concept was not well portrayed either and I found it confusing upon first viewing, not least of all because it felt unnecessary.

Yes, I've been waiting for this video since you promised it in... whichever video it was you promised it in :D
I do quite like this episode, it's one of my favourite from the last 3 seasons. But that might be because of Charlotte Ritchie more than anything...

Here's where I stand with the Chibnall era. My hatred for Series 11 and 12 in terms of heat equivalency would be 100 stars going full supernovae right next to each other. I hated Resolution. I love Series 13. I love Jodie's, John's, and even Mandip's performances. I also love Revolution and Eve of the Daleks and the Sea Devils Specials.

Strong concept but with a naff pay-off is Chibnall to a fault! The reason why this is so far behind Eve is purely due to that pointless Ryan/Ryan's dad storyline, and the fact that the poor, old Skarosian (great word, btw!) was defeated by a bloody microwave. As you said; great set-up with a sadly ridiculous ending. LOTSD does look promising, though.... Two to go!

As with most Chibnall scripts, the concept is good but the execution is... lacking. Good idea, bad story, and the rest of the team on both sides of the camera doing their best to polish the turds.

I enjoyed Eve of the Daleks better. I tend to like anything that Aisling Bea is in though, tbf. Would’ve like her to have stayed for a while.
Aside from her, I still enjoyed it. The Daleks are over-done at this point. They were stale before Chibs took over. They’re lazy villains.
The first Dalek episode (w/Eccleston) was superb and this reminded me of that, even though there were more than one. It was small and intimate.
The Time War was supposed to have taken the Daleks and Timelords out of the equation. One or two Timelords being around is ok and makes sense - not everyone would’ve been at the war. But the Daleks seem to still be everywhere. Despite the explanations as to how they got there it always seemed, well, stupid. The Time War clearly didn’t take them all out, there have been millions of them since the war.
They’re just boring. As are the Cybermen. Ugh…

I voted for Eve of the Daleks as the better one as it was an enjoyable episode through out. Every character was great there was barely a side plot and it was all relevant.
Resolution has probably Charlotte Ritchie's best ever performance. Was totally blown away. However the episode was let down by as usual Ryan's incredibly boring story and the doctor wasn't great either. And of course it's the episode where they end unit for some dumb joke

    • @triplejazzmusicisall1883

I so so much agree with you especially about Ryan's boring storyline. I found his character and that whole sideline very boring at it's best and unwatchable at it's worst. And yes I haven't watched whole segments after just seeing seconds into that plot thread. I never thought a companion could be more boring than Adric but the impossible happened. All your points on the Dalek stories ring true. Well argued and articulate thinking.

    • @charliecrick9180
      @charliecrick9180 2 года назад

Without reading other comments first, I pretty much just put the same as you! I couldn't agree with you more. Ryan was totally pointless and the side-story about him and his dad was painful to watch. He was never a character about whom I could care, as he was just so incredibly dull. So to be entertained or enthralled by his relationship with his dad was never something that was going to happen. And that is why Resolution will never be a great Dalek story. (Still a million times better than the truly god-awful Revolution, though! :)

I would agree - and I remember liking 'Resolution' - but I can't really say for sure as I didn't actually watch the most recent New Year's special. I have given up on Doctor Who for now and didn't watch series 13. The many reviews I read of it convinced me that series 13 was a confusing mess. I will stay away from the programme until the new Doctor arrives and we get a new show controller. It's a shame, because I have loved just about all of new Who since it came back in 2005, but Chibnall has done a poor job and spoiled it for me.
