- How to overcome fear of flying (Aviophobia)?
Here are the top ways to overcome fear of flying. Exposure therapy by far is the most effective method.

I used to have a real phobia of flying. But one day I was diagnosed with cancer. The treatment took a long time. I went through all the circles of hell - chemotherapy, surgery, and radiation therapy. Plus a lot of tests. Plus, I saw that the patients with whom I was in the same ward were dying, and new ones were taking their place. This is common in this type of hospital. Then I saw the real fear of death. I couldn't sleep or eat for almost a year. Now I know for sure that an airplane is just a transport and there is no need to be afraid of it.
❤
I'm so sorry to hear that. I hope you recover 100%

Wow ❤
Hope you are healing! That's a powerful paradigm shift!
A pilot was asked about fear of safety during flights. He responded, only scary part is when he rides/drives to the airport...
I'm not scared of flying, I'm scared of crashing
Me too! And tomorrow i have to get on the plane 😢

@@YTuser_306Hey,
how did it go?
@@SentByNatureguess they crashed
@@AnonURnot Hey bro,
I flew yesterday and it went well! :)
I have fear of flying. My fear started suddenly I do not even know what had provoked it. When I was younger I used to invent excuses to avoid business trips as they involved flying. However, one day I was offered a position that I knew would involve lots of trips. I hated my desk job so I said yes. I had to overcome my fear going through a literal torture every flight. I have developed a set of coping mechanisms while dealing with this stress like some rituals I performed before every flight but mostly I educated myself on planes and air crashes and why they happened. Little by little I have accepted that a crash is a statistical anomaly and if it happens it's something I am destined for. It took me a year of frequent flying like multiple times every week to get accustomed to this and it was hard. However, it was worth it. I now have some anxiety around take off, flying in stormy weather and such but I do enjoy most of it. As I love traveling I am happy that I can go on enjoying my life without the fear. I was not an extreme case bit it did affect my life so to those who feel like me please do not stop flying and seeing new things even if it scares you, you are stronger than you think and it's just in your head.
A small thing that really helped me was a British radio sitcom called Cabin Pressure. It is just so funny and is about planes so I listened to it on flights and it made it less scary for me.
Thanks so much for sharing and well done on all the work you put in to confronting your fears.
"..it's just in your head" That's really helped me. Thanks!!
There are at least 5k+ flights in the air while typing this and they all made to safely to their destinations.
Has no relevance.
I am not afraid of flying. No one really is. They are afraid of being stuck in a small space they cannot escape, where they have no authority or power to alter the situation should something go wrong while maximizing the potential for catastrophic disaster.
This!!!
so true!!! However, if you think about it that's literally every second of your life. (please don't now became paranoid about everyday life)
Every second of my life I am not confined to a small space 1000s of feet in the air...@@faery1984
I'm worried about a suicidal pilot tbh...
Bro I am afraid of flying
I used to never be afraid of flying. Been flying since 9 years old and, at 19 I started flying alone internationally.
Something happened in 2022 (when I turned 24) and I have been scared sh*tless flying since.
What happened was that I started watching crash investigations and documentaries, feeding into a fear I didn’t have yet.
I stay away from those and remind myself of the times when I was scoffing at turbulence or treating it as a roller coaster ride, feeling at complete peace the whole duration of the flight.
It's not the flying that scares me, it's clusterphobia 30k ft high.
Mines the turbulence 👀
@rubiksmaster4849 my friend's husband who is a pilot said it's just pot holes, like streets. That helped me
@@zildian1983 oh, that’s a better way to think of it
Thank you so much! :) I have a flight in 2 weeks and I get major anxiety so I’ll think of it that way next time 👍
I always end up making up catastrophic thoughts about turbulence and what can happen in the air but I need to stop but it’s hard 😰
@rubiksmaster4849 I feel you! Just remember to breathe, you got this! Oh and chew gum, helps with the anxiety!
Mines the turbulence and crashes😂
idgaf about how airplanes work, igaf about hijacker’s and plane crashes
Well you would care less about plane crashes if you knew how airplanes worked! Brighten up man
*about the hijackers, airport security has HEAVILY tightened since an unfortunate incident. now if there is even a slight chance someone is trying to bring something dangerous, even like scissors, they will definitely find it.*
@@keinmyster8549me knowing how planes work, and knowing that services are sometimes over look
Also remember, even if something goes wrong. Pilots are trained to deal with the situations
I am flying next two weeks with my two kids and I have a bit of anxiety.
I will write again when we are safe back in belgium. 🇧🇪
Its 8 hours of flying to the USA 🇺🇸
Thank all of you for your comments, well expect for a cople not serious ones, but to everyone else, thank you
I go through the same thing. I love to travel and vacation and see new places but it makes me very anxious to leave home and to fly. Going on a flight in a little over a week. I hope yours went well and you were able to find calm. And I hope you will on your flight back. Prayers for you my friend. God bless you ❤
@@faithfultotheKing Thank you☺️ It went well, except that we had to wait for two hours in the plane before takeoff. I’m going home in a week, and I pray that it will go well. And I pray your flight goes well for you too and I hope you find comfort:) You got this friend, good luck to you, and God bless you❤️
benzodiazepine does not give you courage. It just stupifies you so you dont feel afraid.
If they showed every car crash that happened, you wouldn't go out in a car, but one plane crash every few years and people are going crazy about flying.
"Dont avoid flying" okay ill just fly and climb on top of peoples heads screaming land this plane im insane!!!!
The odds of dying in a plane crash are 1 in 188,364. The odds of dying in a car accident are 1 in 103. Fear not. You're much safer in the air.
… so you’re saying there’s a chance?
Yes? And? Birds don't fly that high, but people do? We're bored hearing the car accident analogy because that's not what it's about. I'd rather die in a car accident on the ground quickly or not quickly, than plummet from the sky for 2 minutes hearing a bunch of strangers screaming in different languages.
I know everything about an airplane , I am still scared AF.
I'm flying in 2 weeks
It's there any coping strategies you guys have?
I'm afraid on the turbulence...
Bro, I'm flying in two weeks too, man!
I also hate turbulence
I’m flying tomorrow but I feel I’m scared for the destination and flight :(
@larrysmellbutts2002 What is it about your destination that makes you scared?
@@Freddy-BA mostly just the change. I really hate change. I’m going to my home country to stay for a couple months and im a bit stressed because i won’t be at my house
@larrysmellbutts2002 gotcha, that makes sense, I hate flying for over two hours, and I have a 3 hour flight and a 3 hour layover in Vegas followed by a quick 1 hour flight, so I'm a little bit worried. On top of that, I'll be away from home for a couple of weeks 😃
I don’t have a fear of flying, but trying to rationalize for example my fear of bugs and sudden loud noises, is like trying to drink the whole Pacific Ocean. I know that house centipedes are very useful, and that moths aren’t actually that bad, but I’m still terrified and go into full panic whenever I THINK there is one next to me
Hello!
Thank you!
My family knows I have a fear of flying. The last flight I was on, I nearly lost it. They couldn't keep me calm. They are making me fly in November😢
Oh same😢
Helpful video but you can’t read the captions. Please move them slightly higher on the screen. For example , I make out EMDR as it isn’t legible. Still, thanks for mentioning it. I looked it up on account of your video. Thanks for sharing.
How do you erase irrational fear by understanding how airplane works.
Accidents still happen and we are just scared of that. And it’s valid.
People can’t erase their fear of spiders that they know are harmless yet flying fear is much more valid. So no, understanding how planes work doesn’t erase my fear.
Fly often as possible an sit everytime at the window and look out. Do this 10 times in a row and you will never be scared of flying ever again. It is simple as that. (Of course, enduring the fear during the first flights is not "simple"). Techniques to prevent or avoiding the fear will make it only worse and is just a cash-cow for therapists.
how i over fight my fear,is to do something to distract me or read the rules on the seats or go on my ipad and play a game that i like
I just want to make it to where I land. :( i don’t do well in waters. I can walk pretty ok on land as a land creature
I absolutely love flying. I don't hate it at all
Hypnosis helped me
Im super scared of flying! It’s all started 2 plane rides ago when I got on a plane. It was my cousins first time flying! And it was sooo jumpy and I was so scared. It felt like it was falling. And now I’m scared to get on a plane and I have to get on one in a few months.
I just got off a plane😅
Does anyone else feel completely fine on an airplane, but gravely fears missing your flight?
If you're scared of flying it's not about flying. It's because you have other problems in your life. Buy me a ticket and I will fly with you. You're not alone.
What? Thats not true
smooth lmao
@@janusasorousrex2118 its a joke
@@gabrielcarvalho6055 this is a joke?: f you're scared of flying it's not about flying. It's because you have other problems in your life
Not true at all. It is about being trapped or dying at the end of the day...that's where the fear comes from.
I’m afraid of being trapped on a plane knowing if I freak out I will be arrested immediately or put in a psych ward. I suffer for hours dying in silence
Same here😢
Its hard because todsy i saw a flight accident in the news im scared
My problem is the height!!!! I can’t get over the height. I am scared of heights! How do I overcome that? 😢
It’s weird because I’m scared of heights myself but when I go on plane I don’t necessarily feel scared because in my mind I feel safe on a plane and I’m comfortable looking at the view. It’s weird. If I climb then I’m more scared
It’s areophobia 😊
What’s the best medication to calm a Person down before a flight. I tried Xanax it didn’t help.
I have that
I did doesnt really make sense how we can get afraid of this because the chances of crashing on a car is way higher than a plane crashing yet we are not scared of going into a car?
for me its not the possibility of a crash its the height that you cant escape from😰
9/11 made this fear worse for me
I got on a flight and felt really dizzy in my seat, I felt like a was gonna throw up the whole time.
Sorry to hear this.
The best eah to cure it to watch Aircrash investigation series whole in the flight
I have that phobia couse i scared flying away
Sorry to hear that! We have specialized practitioners in Phobias: theprivatetherapyclinic.co.uk/
I think I recommend alcohol over anxiety medication I think it might work a lil better don't get sht faced though obviously
Alcohol can cause anxiety too. Just as caffeine in coffee.
I'v been a pilot for 10 years now. What worries me the most, is the landing to the airport..
Only 2 Pilots out of 15 can master the landing. Unfortunately most Planes they break when we land, because it is difficult to master. On landing, that's where we pray the most as Pilots.
But you don't have to fear. We will have to die first before we put your life in danger. Just get rid of that fear and enjoy life.
Thousands of planes land safely everyday. If only 2 out of 15 pilots could master the landing… omg… it would have been a disaster…
This was not helpful.
@@Astrochronic agree. That was the most disturbing thing to say. And then “but don’t worry” 🤣
idk if that helped 😢😅😮
we will all die one day. it might be out of your home door or 31k ft high. does not really matter. if its your time , its your time. just stop fucking thinking the worst. 1 out 7.000.000 plane crashes and this will not be yours . LIVE
Lol. This will not be yours… like how do you know?
You probably would have said the same to the Airfrance passengers that crashed in 2009.
Besides the way you die does matter. No one wants to die in a horrific circumstances so it’s natural to fear. It’s like you are going against human nature saying why should we fear. We just do. We are humans.
Irrelevant.
@@Astrochronic nope it’s relevant and this is how I stopped fearing of flying
@@Tripmajor it doesn’t ease my fear. I do care how I die. I am sure no one wants to die in a horrific way. So it’s not the answer.
Irrelevant to more intelligent people then. @@Tripmajor
I know how to not worry about it, don't be on it 😂
how to overcome it: go on planes and then you become more calm every time you will fly
oh good...cause we all have the time and money for that...
Planes crash all the time
I am feared of height and whenever I thought that how would the flight take off and land ..... this scares me the most 🥲🥹
