I learned more in these four videos than I did in months on websites, videos and reading. Excellent series! I’ve been cracking my head trying to get LFOs. You did it in a few sentences. Thank you!
I JUST received the ROLAND System-1 yesterday and I knew NOTHING about synthesizers before this other than I liked the sounds they make. These are THE BEST tutorials I have EVER seen. Thank you SIR!!
Hello Mr. Synthesizer GURU!!! I am LOVING your videos. PLEASE keep them coming. NOW for the question I am hoping you can help with. I am trying to record my SYSTEM-1 into the FL Studio DAW. I can record it and hear it in the DAW but the only sounds I get come from the PLUG-OUT synth software. While there are many presets in the PLUG-OUT software that are great, what I want to do is record the sounds I am creating with the SYS-1. I want to record the sound coming directly from the SYSTEM-1 but cannot make that happen. Apparently I don't have the right settings or connections. I currently have the SYSTEM-1 connected to my PC with the USB (B to A) plug. Do I have to connect with MIDI cables in order to hear and control the SYS-1 sounds from the device? If so, can I use a cable that has two MIDI connectors (In/Out) and the USB A plug or MUST I HAVE a controller in between that translates the MIDI to a USB signal? I am hoping you may be able to provide some assistance? Thanks for reading.
For some reason I've only just found this, but it's the best explanation I've ever come across. I've understood the amp envelope for years, but I always had problems understanding the Filter and LFO; no longer. Thank you so much for posting this; absolutely excellent. Dave
Superb videos! Having played the organ and keyboard as a hobby for many years, I've recently bought a Roland JP8080, as I love Trance and the super saw Trance sound. This is my first synth, so your videos are a massive help to me in learning how to get the best out of a synth. Many thanks!
That LFO pitch modulation at high speeds is very useful and it is what makes difference between a lot of lead sounds. Wobbly, buzzer, or noise modulated supersaw, and so on.
I have a Roland System 1m, so your tutorial has shown me around it in a way that's easy to understand. That Roland shouts loudly about its plug-out capability distracts from the fact that it's a very capable and expressive synth in its own right.
Echoing the comments below, THANK YOU! I bought a System 8 recently, and it's been a challenge to find any decent tutorials on here. This series of yours has been the most succinct explanation of sound crafting that I've found so far. Subscribed, and I hope you continue to do more!
Thanks man! I bought my first synth (A system 1) and I learned a lot through this set of videos. You should make other lessons teaching on how to make sounds such as pads, strings, or brass... Besides that, add to your title or description, Tutorial Roland System 1, because basically you explain almost all the features that the machine has, and I think is the best video about the System 1 i´ve found. Again, thanks!!!
Your hardware is a great learning tool, but if I see how many presets I come up with I am glad I can store them in software. Thanks you for your 4 videos about synths, they were very helpful.
Thanks so much for these videos. I am new to this and have an mc-707. Everything you went over can crossover to the 707 seamlessly. Exactly what I’ve been looking for. Cheers! 🍻
This is the best beginner explanation that I have found. Most of the time there is some ego getting in the way and there seems to be a need to bury me in technical that I don’t yet understand. Thank you!
These videos are great! I would love if you could do some more videos on how to piece these all together to get the sounds you mentioned like brass, bass etc.
I found the series super useful, I had zero idea about synths or waves, but the way you explain how it all works makes it super clear and easy to understand, thank you!
Excellent clutch of videos there mate, everything has been trial and error for me over the last 9 months of synths on iPad, but this consolidated everything I've learnt and probably doubled my understanding of things I thought I knew but clearly didn't! An excellent job.
Very clear and super well explained !! thank you very much for sharing these tutorials as I have a System-1 and after watching your tutorials it all makes sense now!! .. I think these vids should be part of it's user manual..
Thanks for all the info it was very helpful to someone like me who doesn't own a synth but was struggling to make sense of a software synth which has both baffled and hooked me at the same time :)
Dude u need to do more videos. Play around on old school synths, and explain what you are doing ect. Do it in the style of the synth tutorial vids. Your channel would blow up.
Thanks for this - it really helped me work out my System 8. Do you know if there's any way to set the Filter and Amp sections independently for each oscillator? At the moment, everything I set applies to all three.
Thanks again for another informative video. Would you consider doing a video to show how to make certain sounds i.e. something like a string sound or brass sound? Just a thought. Keep up the good work. This is giving me help with my system 1. Do you have any of the other Aira products? What about tips on those? Thanks again take care. Stu.
Thanks Stuart. I have a TR-8 and a TB-3 also, I did make an introduction video to those a couple of years ago you could check out: ruclips.net/user/edit?o=U&video_id=O-KX31lnOpwIf I get a chance I'll have a look at doing a video on making certain sounds :)
i'm sure this is a non issue, but i wish my digital synths had sliders instead of dials for their envelopes, i think they make the interface much more intuitive.
Thank you for uploading these tutorials. I hope that many agree that using a real synthesizer is more fun to learn with than watching someone drag a mouse pointer across an overwhelming software interface. That's so boring! 😂
Nice job on this series. I am a guitar player just getting into adding synths to some original songs I am working on. I have found a lot of free VST synth plugins for my DAW but until now have had no idea how to really utilize them. Thanks so much for the straightforward approach.
Watched all 4. Well done. Appreciated. Thank you. Curious: How would you duplicate the cascading synth sound heard in "Tom Sawyer" by RUSH ? Here is their link. ruclips.net/video/auLBLk4ibAk/видео.html Listen to the sound around 1:20 Thank you. Frank & BeerNutz

This was the best tutorial I've seen on how to understand and use all the functions.
no ads and straight to the point. my guy thank you.

Never seen synths explained so concisely. I FINALLY understand. Thank you.

Absolutely one of the best lesson series about synthesizers. Thanks for great help learning this thing.
That was extremely helpful. Thank you for taking the time to make this video. Blessings!
Thank you Greg! I'm glad it was useful.

I am just getting back into synthesis after a 35-year hiatus. This is amazing refresher! Great job. I learned a few new tricks along the way!
Thank you so much for this. I've had a system one for a year and have never figured it out! Masterclass, thank you.
One of the best tutorials I’ve seen. Thanks!
As others have commented this is a very good series of videos that gave me exactly what I was looking for. Very much appreciated 👍
I have a Roland System 1m, so your tutorial has shown me around it in a way that's easy to understand. That Roland shouts loudly about its plug-out capability distracts from the fact that it's a very capable and expressive synth in its own right.
Just watched all 4 parts...very straight-forward, clear step-by-step teaching. Thank you!

I've seen a lot of synth tutorials and some good ones too but this is the best one out there, you left out nothing man, thanks a lot
Glad you posted this series, really useful, thanks. My first synth happens to be a System 1, so doubly useful. Thanks!
Your hardware is a great learning tool, but if I see how many presets I come up with I am glad I can store them in software.

Just bought one and this has saved me hours ( if not days ) of studying the Esoteric manual. Cheers!
Really one of the better demos of synthesizers out there, thank you very much for sharing this. Great help
This is the best beginner explanation that I have found. Most of the time there is some ego getting in the way and there seems to be a need to bury me in technical that I don’t yet understand. Thank you!
Thank you so much!!! You really know how to explain things the easy way :) Loved it and still do

Thanks for the simple but very effective tutorials on synthesis. 👍👍👍

Thanks for all the info it was very helpful to someone like me who doesn't own a synth but was struggling to make sense of a software synth which has both baffled and hooked me at the same time :)

I vote first synth JP8000, then the Virus TI2 for the second ;)

Thank you so much, Noble Cue
Very informative.
I love the Vince clarke Yazoo sounds that were made on the pro one... can this do similar or is it missing something?

Praise this guy, not jesus, he died 2000 years ago, while the content creator still lives.
