Would you really notice the difference in day to day driving re acceleration between the BMW & the Audi, I expect not. However in your pocket, you certainly would.
The rs5 did an 11.7 quarter mile on this very channel not too long ago. I've actually never seen it go above 12.0 until now. Probably just to make the race seem more interesting than it would have been!
Yet again, a full blown RS model can barely walk away from a soft M. It take Audi's best to somewhat handle BMW's entry level performance variant. An M3 would have made the RS5 look silly!
Im amazed how a non m-ish car can keep up with flagship audi RS5 despite the fact its way lower on power and way cheaper. Cant wait for the proper M2 and M2comp
I'm not sure how carwow gets these weird numbers every. single. Drag race. Always a 12.0 1/4 Mile. Funny thing is they have a video of an RS4 vs M3 Comp and in that video the RS4 got a 11.74 lol. 🙃
The Audi looks so much better than the BMW! Also, just because it doesn’t have a soft limiter doesn’t mean it sounds better. BMW definitely lost that competition as well, sounds like a shop vac. There’s something about the BMW that I just can’t get into. It has awesome performance for the value but compared to its big brothers (M3,M4)it looks 10 levels below them.
@@PaulTC97 that's complete bullshit, and this is coming from a BMW owner. The A3's interior is weak for its class, but everything from the A4 above has really nice interior and very close in quality to BMW.
So, in conclusion: 1. The RS lineup isn't particularly fast - RS models are always slower than Ms and AMGs. 2. That M240i is pretty nippy for a non-M car. 3. Compared with these two my M3P is less expensive to buy (at least here in Portugal), much less expensive to maintain, accelerates faster (1/4 mile in 11.8s), and very likely out-handles both because of its lower CoG (it scored the fastest slalom and moose test here on YT - maniobra de esquiva by km77).
You've really never taken the Model 3 through a highly technical mountain road right? Teslas are far too heavy to do that kind of driving. I've tried it with a Model 3 LR, and the M340i. Teslas win with acceleration, BMW wins hands down with driving feel and handling. Teslas are drag racing machines and nothing more, and quite frankly, that gets boring after about 20 hard pulls.
@@andrew22334455 I have. With proper tires it handles amazingly. They're slightly (slightly!) heavier than the 3 Series and the C Class and the A4 and the like, but their CoG is lower, which makes for great handling. Again, the Model 3 achieved the fastest slalom and moose test speeds by km77 (of any model they've ever tested).
@@motozest7856 300kg is hardly slightly. That's the weight of 1 and a half Americans. It's a huge weight difference, and you honestly feel it if you drive them back to back. Slalom runs honestly don't mean anything. They're testing it on a limited course that's literally 3 turns (moose test). I took the 3LR on a mountain road and honestly gave up, as I couldn't guarantee my personal safety, and I wasn't convinced with the brakes. I didn't have the issue with the 3, or even the A4 with it's crappy, floaty, light steering feel. Please drive all the competitors first. You'll soon see that Teslas are nothing but drag racing machines. The Tesla is the fastest thing I've ever driven, but I opted against it, because there's no enjoyment to driving one of those cars.
@@andrew22334455 I owned a 340i before my M3P. My brother has an S5 and two of my closest friends are Mercedes nuts and own C and E Classes. I've driven (hard) all of the M3P competitors - the M3P outhandles them all with the proper tires (I was on the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S before, I'm now on the Continental SportContact 7). Again, it's heavier but the CoG is a lot lower. Proper brakes make a difference, I'll give you that - I've updated the OEM with the Unplugged Performance system. Even with that upgrade the final cost was still about 10k less than a 340i or S5 here in Portugal.
Would be just a little bit fairer if you had the coupe instead of the sportback just because the m240 is a coupe. Nevertheless, bmw’s are always more brutal
I drive a BMW without being biased I'd still take the 240 especially over that horrible blue audi image looking at that color every morning would nearly as bad as having a green focus rs. Surely people who bought one ask themselves wtf was going through their mind to think it was a good idea
You guys should add a stat, at the time you disclose the times, the best time you guys were able to get with that particular car in the previous drag races. That would help.
The performance from BMW’s current crop of M and M Performance cars is phenomenal. Either all of their mechanicals are all hooked up perfectly….or their engines produce more oomph than stated.
Yeah I think the gap wouldn't of been as close had they used the Coupe version of the RS5, instead they opted for the heavier sportback version to engineer a closer result...makes for a better video I suppose but in the real world an RS5 would leave the M240i in the dust.
Well rs5 doesn’t even compete with the m240i as its not even a full fledged m car + even the m2 comp doesn’t compare with it because rs5’s direct competitor is m3 competition 🌚 which smokes rs5 pretty badly
As Audi is part of the VW group they have to fit in to the line up according to them. BMW is a stand alone company and has way more freedom to play with the power of their cars. People seem to forget this.
Well ,back in 1980-90 when the quattro came out with it's 2.5l engine ,that car was a peak of power and show. I'm not a fan of modern BMWs, personally, but that is impressive
Mat thank you so much for this insane video!
When bots talk to bots
Given the huge price difference in favor of the BMW and the Audi's slim margin of victory, teh BMW gets the nod.
Only 45 kilograms of difference between those two cars. It is insane, BMW looks a lot lighter and smaller.
The BMW also got at least 400hp and some nm on top. They‘re always lying a bit when it comes to engine specs to make it seem faster for it‘s power. Whereas Audi has been overstating their specs sometimes in the past 😂
@@marvinmeyer8639 Nah, horsepower isn't correlated as much with weight and Audi is also stating that it has less power than it has in reality.

Would be more interesting to see rolling race from 60mph. Get more of a feeling how much quicker you can overtake on the highway.

I prefer the sound of the Audi rather than the BMW even with a limiter 😂

That bmw is kind of a bargain, tho the rs5 is still one of the best looking modern saloons imo.
That Audi is one sexy beast! 🔥
Next to that bmw everything looks sexy and beautiful

Audi's have adapted themselves to be High speed cruisers rather then, half blood sports cars. 🍻

Since when did Skoda start making cars for BMW?
As an Audi fanboy I have to say 2 things:
1. Solid performance from the BMW!
2. It’s still ugly af
Finally a Audi fan. Too many bmw fanboys in the comments
At least BMW try something new. Audi just churn out the same old design over and over.

I think its the first time rs5 won something in carwow drags.

Love the rs5 but you should race the m3 rwd vs the new rs3
His already raced them look it up... m3 just won in the drag race cause it was rwd but flogged the rs3 in the roll race
The rs5 did an 11.7 quarter mile on this very channel not too long ago. I've actually never seen it go above 12.0 until now. Probably just to make the race seem more interesting than it would have been!
It looked wet out.
I REALLY, REALLY, REAAAAALLLYY like the new final cinematic closing style with the recent videos!! Keep it up!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥
If the Beemer was as light as a Beemer should be, this race would've been even.
Gotta say that RS5 still looks amazing it seems to have been around for ever.
Yet again, a full blown RS model can barely walk away from a soft M. It take Audi's best to somewhat handle BMW's entry level performance variant. An M3 would have made the RS5 look silly!
True but still got the rs3 that beats the a45 and the rs5 is an older car. Still audi will need to get their act together for the next rs4 and rs6
This is not Audi’s best lol. Their performance models have been severely neutered over the last 5 years for whatever reason.
@@foxesamu Sound and emission regs.
Bmw is simply embarrassing most other performance cars at this point.
Yeah - engineering wise on point. Design wise they are being extremely adventurous...
Why are you hyping the BMW? The Audi is heavier, way more practical and is targeted to other people. The RS3 would win to an RS5
@@flipmo9579 Put a M3 Comp Xdrive against the RS5 Sportback and then see what happens.
Im amazed how a non m-ish car can keep up with flagship audi RS5 despite the fact its way lower on power and way cheaper. Cant wait for the proper M2 and M2comp
The OPF must really impact the RS5 because they run 11.7 stock no issues over here in the US
Yea, they suck.
I'm not sure how carwow gets these weird numbers every. single. Drag race. Always a 12.0 1/4 Mile. Funny thing is they have a video of an RS4 vs M3 Comp and in that video the RS4 got a 11.74 lol. 🙃
@@randyragy4592 interestingly the only time it hits 12 is when WOT doesn’t engage, which means it’s not launching correctly is my guess.

Bro audis are inferior/ not as premium as BMWs. Audis stand between a generalist brand and a premium one.

Can't wait for the M2 competition or CS... 🔥🔥
So, in conclusion:
Im pretty sure rs3 is faster than m2 and a45
@@motozest7856 300kg is hardly slightly.
The RS3 would've been a great match, same hp-ish
Of course. Silly to compare bigger and more luxurious car.
No the rs3 should go against the m2. Audi doesn't stand a single chance

That little song made Mat at the end always kill me
i bloody love that little m240i , just goes to show when bmw arnt messing around doing daft things they can still make a peach of a car
The craziest part: The 2 series is supposed to rival the S3 & RS3. The fact that the lite version can keep up with an RS5 shows how bonkers BMWs are

Or how slow the new audis are
@@Jza-GZa40k facts. They've been slower than BMW and Mercedes for quite a while now. The shittiest part is their obnoxious soft limiters
Would be just a little bit fairer if you had the coupe instead of the sportback just because the m240 is a coupe. Nevertheless, bmw’s are always more brutal
It would also be fairer to use cars from the same class. Like RS3 that would still easily beat that ugly duckling.
As a BMW fanboy, that RS5 looks so much better than the M240i…
As an Audi fan that m240i isn’t a real m car and it matched wiv our rs line up 🤯🤯
As a fan of both manufacturers, Audi's design language is better for me, so that RS 5 wins on looks.
I drive a BMW without being biased I'd still take the 240 especially over that horrible blue audi image looking at that color every morning would nearly as bad as having a green focus rs. Surely people who bought one ask themselves wtf was going through their mind to think it was a good idea
As a driver of two RS Audis I think the RS5 is really ugly and I actually think the BMW is better looking 😂.
Wish they would actually top them out instead of stopping at the quarter mile
You guys should add a stat, at the time you disclose the times, the best time you guys were able to get with that particular car in the previous drag races. That would help.
The performance from BMW’s current crop of M and M Performance cars is phenomenal. Either all of their mechanicals are all hooked up perfectly….or their engines produce more oomph than stated.
Bmw engines always produce more power than stated
Why use the 4 door version against a 2 door car? Wouldn’t it make sense to use the 2 door RS5?🤔
Yeah I think the gap wouldn't of been as close had they used the Coupe version of the RS5, instead they opted for the heavier sportback version to engineer a closer result...makes for a better video I suppose but in the real world an RS5 would leave the M240i in the dust.
Doesn't matter the rs5 is literally 2 class above the m240i anyway
If u want fairness then u should put the s3 against this bmw
How about the S5 coupé then?
Well rs5 doesn’t even compete with the m240i as its not even a full fledged m car + even the m2 comp doesn’t compare with it because rs5’s direct competitor is m3 competition 🌚 which smokes rs5 pretty badly
@@MonicaHolly143 this shows how overweight is the M240i. Ugly and heavy. And BTW the M240i have really 430hp at the crank.
RS5 really needs an upgrade I'm guessing some fundamental design limitations in the engine are stopping that from happening.
Sadly that's probably not going to happen cause now the whole world is all about stupid ev/hybrid🤬
Absolutely agree on this! These recent drag races on here which include the RS5 are pretty embarrassing for Audi
That engine is similar to the one in the new rs3 cars ,same 2.5l 5 cylinder engine ,but for some reason the new rs 3 have lik 200hp less ,than the legendary Quattro Sport .so i would love to see audi making the RS cars worthy ,Rs5 with 600 -650hp would be a better thing
@@lonewolf1300 Yup! And I don't get why now a days family use SUV needs 600HP and a "proper" sport car has less than 400hp.
Amgs would be nice on the channel
This was a perfect comparison
Now do BMW M4 Comp vs Audi S3 and see how ENORMOUS the gap is lol
Hahah that would be amazong
Why the s3? The rs3 is a level lower than the rs5 and rs4 and the 240i is a level lover than the M4 M3 so it’s RS3 vs M240i and S3 vs 135i but that’s it with the crazy BMW fanboys they make stupid comparisons. The S3 is faster than the new 135i and the RS3 is faster than the M240i but the M4 is faster than the Rs5 what’s the problem.
@@Deyan741 wrong … the RS3 is comparable to a Full m2 compétition… and the next m2 that will include the xdrive will eat all day everyday the RS3 … it is all over the internet… BMW’s are just made faster that is all and that’s ok people don’t always buy car’s because of the specs.
@@lammedus5503 your wrong how’s that comparable with the rs3 when the m2 comp has the s55 engine which is in the m3 m4 which compares to the rs4 rs5 which is a level higher than the rs3? Bmw drivers make their own rules I guess, the rs3 compares to the b58 with its smaller engine and a cilinder less just accept it
Hahaha i can see the desperation in the Audi driver trying to win 😂😂
Don’t know whether this is an indication of just how fast BMW performance cars are getting, or how slow Audis performance cars are. Depends on what you’d call slow though but still🤦♀️
Audi doesn’t need to beat bmws. They are more than fast enough for uk roads. Its more of a show off statement the people that buy these and audi look and feel better, especially against those ugly bmws. And Im a bmw fan boy
Personally I also think that the rs5 is weak in its class but the rs3 is also a tear lower and is equally fast as the rs5 so the line up is weird.
