Randall Cowl Intake for NB Miatas

Most intakes provide more noise than power and just suck hot air from the engine bay. Our Randall intake solves this by pulling cooler air from the high pressure area at the base of your windshield, for a dyno proven 5 hp gain at the wheels.

Would have liked to hear how it sounds before and after.
Will a cowl cover impact the performance of this intake?
Timely presentation. I ordered one for my NB a few days ago.
man, I think you got the only one. I'm jealous.
Ordered. Looking forward to testing this on a new project car.
Will definitely be picking one of these up!
I really like the ability to use a conventional paper element filter. I’ve always been more than willing to leave a few HP on the table in the interest of better filtration.
were you able to source one from somewhere?
I've got 2 or 3 things on hold from FM while I'm waiting for this to come in. Losing some patience here.
@@blue04mx53 I found out it would bump me into a higher class with my time trial club so I decided to hold off for now.
Yeah, it’s been an adjustment for me in the Miata world having to “get on the list” and be patient. Not just here, but other vendors as well.
Coming from BMWs, it was always just click, buy, receive, done. I’ve had more than a few hurry-up-and-waits with Miata stuff (pre and post covid, lest anyone try to play that card), but they’ve always come through eventually.
We apologize for the continued delays - the supplier issues are still ongoing. Please contact our Customer Support Team for more information about this!
@@FlyinMiataVideo Thanks, I shall. I'm getting impatient because I want to have this and another project done before spring gets here.
Looking forward to order it. Added to the notification list.
Thanks for the interest! We hope to have more in stock maybe......in a month or so.
@@FlyinMiataVideo Hi FM Team! I ordered the FM intake back during the black Friday sale but my order was cancelled due to supplier issues. Is that still the case?
100% will buy one if i know the washer relocation kit doesnt affect the intake, maybe some standoffs ont the kit could help?
Have yall done any testing or have any thoughts/opinions on the Jackson Racing Intakes in comparison
This re-post looks much better than the shaky original. Thanks for doing that!
Does this option work with NA6? 94-97 mentioned and shown at 4:18. But 90-93 mentioned later when talking about AFM at 14:30.
Going off their website I’m pretty sure it does work for na6, given they dyno’d on an na6
Yeah, as long as you purchase the one specific for NAs, you'll be good. flyinmiata.com/products/randall-cowl-na-v2?_pos=2&_sid=a990da721&_ss=r
The website says the cruise control actuator on the NB needs to be relocated slightly. Does the intake come with the necessary bracket for that or will it be a separate item?
I notice that it will sit directly above the reservoir for the Clutch. Are their any worries with doing that? (2004 NB)
Will the Randall intake work with the cowl covers?
I have your 1991 turbo kit. My intake is placed to the back corner there and not in the front (yall don’t advertise that fact very well btw…)
would it be possible to buy the 3d printed plate and a straight ish hose piece (like the one on your table)?
Would really love an update on the windshield washer relocation performance in combination with this intake!
Also, does this fit with any oem strut braces, brake booster braces etc?
Would love to upgrade my "shorty" intake with one of these if possible
I'm sure we'll get to the washer relocate test but we just don't have a date on it yet. We've tested our shock tower brace along with the factory one and they both fit fine with the Randall cowl.
@@FlyinMiataVideo would a slight redesign of the washer reservoir be considered in the future to accommodate both?
While working on my Miata, I looked at the location for this install. Looks like I have to reroute the clutch line. Change over to a braided line seems like the logical choice.
3:40 there is a clip on the 3D printed part to reroute the clutch line
Ordered one for my '95 last night - been looking for a quality & affordable CAI option for the NA8 since I bought it, and now I've got one.
We appreciate it!
I bought a 3d printed kit from Napp Motorsport intake is down in front of the radiator on driver side gets good air flow and I ordered a filter mesh for it and haven’t had any issues with it been installed over a year love the look and how it works
@@rjjohnson3807 Did you have to relocate your washer bottle? I thought my '94 had the washer bottle there.
@@FlyinMiataVideo no mine is in the top left by the fuse relay box, I’m looking to go the relocation route due to the upcoming reroute and coil on plug install so I have more space
The 3d printed bit for the firewall needs a cold air box to go with it now for the FM MSM intake 😜
I was thinking similar to you while I watched. I bought the intake elbow kit for my MSM years ago after the factory one started to fail around 6 years old, but I didn't buy the rest of the intake side until last year because Jeremy told me it's loud and the car had to remain civil. I haven't installed it yet because reasons - so I was thinking this might be the best of both worlds if it's quieter than the MSM intake but still enables enough airflow.
when do you think these will be back in stock? highly anticipated!
We aim to have a restock around late May - we appreciate your patience!
I still want to buy one someday....... .. .. .
We hope to see our next NA restock around July 14th!
How does this affect torque?
The full dyno graph is on the product page on their website. 5.2 ft-lb peak increase on an NB2
My air intake is hitting on a pulley the one closer to the filter do you recommend replacing the whole thing or just zip tying it to pull it away from the intake ? It is grinding against it not too much but it left its mark
Hmm. That's a pretty important piece to keep together, so if you see any damage, I'd replace it. If you spring a leak on the inlet pipe, the car will run poorly due to the unmetered air, and the dirty air that's coming in is going to get expensive pretty quickly.
Hi again, Still waiting for them to be in stock.
In the meantime can anyone confirm if a tower brace will get in the way of this intake?
@blue04mx53 We're expecting more soon! Make sure to sign up for notifications on the product listing page so you don't miss the next restock - they sell very quickly! We haven't tested all of the various aftermarket shock tower braces out there, but there shouldn't be any fitment issues - however the cruise control actuator does need to be relocated, which is covered in our instructions.
Kinda unrelated, recently got an nd2, looking to increase induction noise in a good way, been doing research on intakes, specifically the takeda momentum, but you guys know your stuff and I was basically looking for more of an induction noise increase as opposed to straight horsepower gain, 300+ seems like a lot to make that happen, any suggestions?
This Verus sound tube delete helps some (flyinmiata.com/products/verus-sound-tube-delete). And, you get to remove a decimal from your mentioned price.
@@FlyinMiataVideo ok cool I’ll look into it, you guys planning on creating an intake like this for the nd?
@@Christianfire18 Not at this time - sorry!
@@FlyinMiataVideo thanks for the reply!
@@Christianfire18 You are welcome!
Do you guys make it for the 1.6 as well ?
We do! The NA version works for all 1990-97 Miatas.
Whats the diameter of the hose/nb hose coupler for the randall intake?
We're not sure exactly which part you're asking about here - if you send an email to our Support Team with some more specifics, they'd be happy to help you out!
I'm in Australia, right hand drive 89 na6 , anything for this ?
Not at this time - sorry! It's possible we'll release something for RHD cars in the future, but no promises.
Would also be interested in this for RHD
Same here … till I see the wiper motor etc in the way 😢
just as an fyi, scca solo doesnt allow this for any street or street touring classes. only street modified plus classed, which would be a turbocharger/supercharger/engine swap cars.
so basically not applicable for any car that would attend a scca event.
in fact, same for frame rails
Question. Can you remove the hose from the airbox and be considered legal for the street and st classes? My car already has the old style intake and I noticed that rule.
@@redneckcrawler2367 the reason this intake is illegal for ST is that it cuts into the firewall and that's a safety concern for the scca. It's not a car to car basis, just a rule that doesn't allow cutting it.
For street class, stock intake only
For Street touring, any intake from the throttle body that utilizes the stock air metering device
@@AustinHampton594 figured as much. Since I just want to do fun runs and not actually compete, it doesn't matter to me. I was just curious.
The end of the hood is considered as a ''high pressure'' area while the car is moving?
A lot of air collects in the windshield cowl when the car is moving, so yes! It's also simply out of the engine bay heat, which is a great benefit in its own right for a true cold air intake.
@@FlyinMiataVideo : I remember this was a 60-70's trick in NASCAR due to the inclination of the windshield.
Any idea when they will be in stock?
We hope to have them ship out in a couple of weeks, however, they can be purchased now.
Hi guys,
Do you have a re-seller in Europe?
Sorry, but we only, for now, ship out of our facility in Palisade, CO.
Long live the hot air intake!
What wing is that in that silver car on the right?
That's a 9Lives Racing Street Wang: flyinmiata.com/products/street-wang-v2-by-9lives-racing-1990-2005?_pos=2&_sid=3a32d96ae&_ss=r
Thats lovely, thank you very much!
when will these be back in stock :(
Our NB variant is currently in stock and ready to ship! As for the NA variant, we hope to have another restock around mid-July.
Will these fit with a Racing Beat header?
We haven't tested it but as long as you're running an OE airbox and there isn't anything in the way from the inlet of the air box and where the piping runs to the firewall....Sure!
ordered mine! thanks@@FlyinMiataVideo
CARB exemption?
(They didn't reply but from their website they do have a CARB EO for these so should be all good. Love how Flyin Miata does that.)
what about rain/water getting there?
13:20
Yep, water intrusion shouldn't be an issue. However, if you are getting water in this area, I'm guessing your car is 2/3 under water.
Can we buy this part in Europe?
You can! Unfortunately, we aren't able to ship orders under $200 USD to certain parts of Europe - please reach out to our Customer Service team if you have any further questions about this.
@@FlyinMiataVideo thanks for swift reply.
You mean Ambient Air temp Intake….AAI🙄🥰
That's all a cold air intake is
What about the Nd
For the NDs, Mazda already has a cold air intake from the factory. It's the little pipe (P51N-13-200) that comes off the side of the filter box and snakes around in front of the heat exchangers.
filter on a tube.
Is this a mouse trap ?
Nothing for the N/A 😢 = 91.
We do make a version specifically for the NA, and it fits a 1991. We're just waiting for more stock.
