picture it...1980...Indianapolis speedway, 102 degrees in July...me, my 17 year old self with my long brown hair ,parted in the middle, bell bottom jeans, love's baby soft cologne, lipsmackers bubble gum lip balm on, completely sunburned and having a blast during this song/concert by REO!!! THAT SUPER LOUD TORNADO WARNING SOUND!!! Great memory for me. Im 60 now and remember it like it was yesterday. Listened to several of their albums over the years...fun times, fun music. Thanks for reacting you two:)
My first concert was way back in 1976 and R.E.O. Speedwagon was the unbilled opening act that night. We sat in the 4th row and saw them do a killer set, with this song as the finale. Gary Richrath played with great attack and fire - very underrated. That siren at the beginning raises the roof all the time. You guys do a great job with your reactions...
One of my all-time favorite songs. The live album from '78 is incredible.....especially 'Being Kind'. That's a must reaction from the live album. Gary Richrath is one of my favorite guitarists.
I first ran across these guy a bit late , on their live album I believe in the late 70s. I dug this song & “157 Riverside Ave” I was thinking who in the hell is this guitarist, he’s killing it. Ha ! So I started listening to more. Saw them live back in the day. Gary was such a special guitarist. Thanks guys
You hit the nail on the head with "a great show" for REO. They were one of my favorite live bands. Great talent. Great songs. High energy. All around great concerts.
Also, by the way, I grew up in Lansing Michigan where Oldsmobiles were made. They were named after Ransom Eli Olds. We also had an REO plant in town named after his initials. That's where they got the REO and why each letter is pronounced individually.
Not sure where this concert was held but I may have been there. I saw REO Speedwagon and Survivor in 81 or 82 in Greensboro, N.C. It was my 1st concert.
Just one of the many amazing bands that I had the privilege of listening to in the 70's and 80's, great live band as you can see and hear! The amazing guitar player, Gary Richrath, sadly is not with us anymore, but man could that guy play! They're still playing and touring today with 3 original members: Kevin Cronin-lead vocals, guitar and keyboards, Neil Doughty-keyboards, and since 1977 Bruce Hall-bass guitar! They have a ton of hits to choose from and the one you just listened to is amazing live! Thank you for listening to one of my favorites! Please react to more Boston, Styx, Kansas, and Toto! Thank you!
Grew up with these dudes.. guitar player is from my hometown.. seen them 10 times from 75-79… they were slayers back then.. got commercialized in mid 80’s and still playing live to this day🤘
I am also from llinois and saw them many times in the '70's in the St.Louis area.Gary was such a great song writer and a killer on that Les Paul! I didn't care for the direction Cronin took them on.
Critics slagged it, but “Arena Rock”, done live, especially in the late 70’s-early 80’s by masters of the genre-Boston, Journey, Styx, Kansas, Foreigner or REO, absolutely blew the roof off the building, left the rafters ringing, and absolutely kicked a*s.
These guys were huge in the 70's(high school days) as well. Awesome group and thank you for doing this. May I request a group called Renaissance please?
I saw them do this live in 1977 in Chicago at Soldier Field I was on the field about 50 ft from the stage The concert started with .38 Special, Journey, REO Speedwagon, Lynard Skynard and then Ted Nugent Actually it was 2 months before the plane crash in Magnolia Mississippi that took the lives of 3 of Lynard Skynard's bandmates.
This song is based on a true story that was something R-E-O Speed Wagon went through, supposedly. They are a great band. Only Saw them live one time and they were fantastic. The tour also included Peter Frampton, Kansas, and Styx whu was the Headliner It was a fantastic show by all 4 bands.
I don't know which concert this was but I have seen them 3 times. Twice before Gary (Guitar) left. The last time was at the Stockton Asparagus Festival in 1994. I was sitting on the grass close enough to scare the band. The new guy (it might have been Dave Amato) was trying very hard to get it together but since he was still learning the licks, they overdubbed Gary. I looked at Kevin letting him know that I noticed and he just kinda shrugged as if to say. "Whatcha gonna do?" Still freakin' rocked. Thanks for staying with the older stuff. One reason Gary left is because with the High Infidelity Album they went girly, and he couldn't handle it. Sadly, Gary Richrath started rocking for GOD on 09/13/2015
The late Gary Richrath was the most underrated lead guitarist in Rock Music History‼️ And co founder Neil Doughty was/is the greatest Rock Organist ever IMO (with all due respect to Rod Argent)‼️
I used to drive 4 hours to work every day. This song is what got me through it. Great road song when you are the only car on the road driving in the dark.
REO was a great live band. I saw them several times back in this time period and they never disappointed. You need to check out the live version of Golden Country. Awesome guitar solo.
Love REO seen them live many times., Gary was one heck of a guitarist, for me he was kinda like Gary Moore in a way. I do like Dave Amato as well just as much, he had massively huge shoes to fill and he's done an amazing job for decades now.
I have seen them numerous times. I saw them just last summer again with Styx. It is always a great show. Kevin still has a good voice. He was finally losing some power in the last song of the show, but I can't fault him for that. At his age, he is still better than 80% of the other singers actively touring.
I saw them this summer too and they were boring, dull and lacked energy. STYX blew them away. I’m sure they were once great live as I can see from this video though you need to take your rose colored glasses off!
Gary Richrath was probably one the most underrated guitarists ever..absolute slays on the guitar.. alcohol became his demon.. such a sad loss..
Gary Richrath was one of the best guitarists in the world. The whole "You get what you play for" album is amazing. Try Golden Country for a reaction.
Agreed.
Completely agree, only other live album that compares is live Bullitt
Really? I bet i can find a 16 year old that match Gary in any song. So tired of this Gary under rated thing.
picture it...1980...Indianapolis speedway, 102 degrees in July...me, my 17 year old self with my long brown hair ,parted in the middle, bell bottom jeans, love's baby soft cologne, lipsmackers bubble gum lip balm on, completely sunburned and having a blast during this song/concert by REO!!! Gary Richrath is the best guitarist you never heard of. Golden Country live is something to behold!
They were terrific in concert kids! WE had some bad ass music in our day.
Gary Dean Richrath was so underrated as a lead guitarist
Righto, Mike. Left us much too early. Top axeman ,for sure. Saw them at Ozark Music Festival in Missouri , summer of 74..
R.I.P Gary, one of the most underappreciated guitarists of our time!
back when REO Speedwagon still rocked. Before they turned into a radio friendly power ballad band.
Yep, when Gary left REO Speedwagon they died as far as I'm concerned
Early REO was just unbeatable. They really don't get the credit they deserve.
My first concert was way back in 1976 and R.E.O. Speedwagon was the unbilled opening act that night. We sat in the 4th row and saw them do a killer set, with this song as the finale. Love the siren.. live . Epic
R. E O. Speedwagon. Each letter is said individually. Great song. Thanks
Confidence, talent and soooo badass! Man, this brings back some gooood memories!
my most favorite band of all time. had the pleasure of seeing them 3 time in seven days in three different cities.
One of my all-time favorite songs. The live album from '78 is incredible.....especially 'Being Kind'. That's a must reaction from the live album. Gary Richrath is one of my favorite guitarists.
Is that the version where he says "last song people" at the beginning?
@@jimwilcox2964 He says that at the beginning of Ridin' The Storm Out. But it's the same album,....You Get What You Play For.
I first ran across these guy a bit late , on their live album I believe in the late 70s. I dug this song & “157 Riverside Ave” I was thinking who in the hell is this guitarist, he’s killing it. Ha ! Seen them in concert 6 times they give a fantastic show
You hit the nail on the head with "a great show" for REO. They were one of my favorite live bands. Great talent. Great songs. High energy. All around great concerts.
Saw REO in the late 70's early 80's they were a great jamming band back then, now they are more radio friendly, it really sucks getting old....
Also, by the way, I grew up in Lansing Michigan where Oldsmobiles were made. They were named after Ransom Eli Olds. We also had an REO plant in town named after his initials. That's where they got the REO and why each letter is pronounced individually.
I went to college in Lansing, well, East Lansing. There is an RE Olds building on campus.
REO Speedwagon - "Roll with the Changes" (Color Version) is the next REO video you should react to. It will be well worth it.
REO was great in concert. An epic song!
Gary richrath was an awesome guitar player and singer. Reo speedwagon fans sure miss gary. RIP🙏🙏
Not sure where this concert was held but I may have been there. I saw REO Speedwagon and Survivor in 81 or 82 in Greensboro, N.C. It was my 1st concert.
I saw REO in 1974 halloween

Seen them live 5 times back in the day. Gary Richrath always played his ass off!! RIP
This song brings back so many memories.
And that's why we hold '70's and '80's music in such awe, especially those of us who grew up in that era. Energy and musicianship off the chart!
That's the way your Grand Dad rocks.
As a Colorado kid, my fav REO song! Live they were the bomb. Gary Richrath SOOO underrated. RIP.
Gary Richrath was a fantastic guitarist that few now know. I saw them live and it was an amazing show.
Gary Richrath was so underrated. Great guitar player! From East Peoria, Illinois.
Saw these guys a half dozen times back in the day. Kevin and Gary (rip) never failed to put on one hell of a show.
Gary was a MONSTER on guitar. Music misses players like this. The guy was so good and made the songs so much better.
The band was actually called Gary Speedwagon when it first started.
These guys were huge in the 70's(high school days) as well. Awesome group and thank you for doing this. May I request a group called Renaissance please?
No one ever made a musical entrance like Gary Richrath. You godamn well knew it when one of his solos kicked in.
The song was written in Colorado. Story goes they were hicking.on the flatirons area in Boulder, got stuck in one of those Colorado spring storms

Saw them in concert twice in the 80's, great shows!
I don't know which concert this was but I have seen them 3 times. Twice before Gary (Guitar) left.
The last time was at the Stockton Asparagus Festival in 1994. I was sitting on the grass close enough to scare the band. 157 riverside ave and golden country from the live album "you get what you play for" are 2 must listen!!!
Love your energy and humour..
I get to see them in June, so excited
Gary Richraft flying turkey trot live REO Speed wagon guitar solo best ever golden country live
Just another vote for Golden Country live! His guitar work in that one makes this look like he's just strumming.
Love REO!! You two should definitely check out "Golden Country Live", it is still relevant today and showcases Gary's talent on the guitar!!
The late Gary Richrath was the most underrated lead guitarist in Rock Music History‼️
And co founder Neil Doughty was/is the greatest Rock Organist ever IMO (with all due respect to Rod Argent)‼️
I think you are forgetting Jon Lord of Deep Purple who was a legend!! But Neil is great too!
@@robertfitterman3777 Good point.
Best version is from the "You Get What You Play For" live album but this one is pretty good too.
They were my very first concert. I saw them the same year as this video. 1981 in Charleston, WV.
others to check out from them to check out is, 157 Riverside Ave, and Flying Turkey Trot the live versions
I used to drive 4 hours to work every day. This song is what got me through it. Great road song when you are the only car on the road driving in the dark.
This song came out when I was going through divorce and learning to be a single mother. A crazy time indeed.
Golden Country LIVE !
Lead Giuitarist Gary RIchrath claimed he could not read music. He played completely by ear.
Makes me miss Gary Richrath. REO in their prime with Gary in the fold.
GARY FREAKING RICHRATH. RIP.
One of my top 3
REO was a great live band. I saw them several times back in this time period and they never disappointed. You need to check out the live version of Golden Country. Awesome guitar solo.
One of the easiest songs to replicate. Was fire addition to our set back in the early 80
You need to checkout Reo Speedwagon "Golden Country" live of course!
You should check out the whole concert.
Check out their "Don't Let Him Go" and "Roll With The Changes"!
Love REO seen them live many times., Gary was one heck of a guitarist, for me he was kinda like Gary Moore in a way. I do like Dave Amato as well just as much, he had massively huge shoes to fill and he's done an amazing job for decades now.
Saw these guys in 85 when I was in high school. Pretty good concert. High Infidelity was their best album IMO
Gary Ritchrathe was so BADASS
For more fun do the live "Roll with the changes" by these guys
Do golden country!!!! From you get what you play for!!!

Just for fun - give a try on The Outlaws "Green Grass and High Times" live video
The year I enlisted.
Roll With The Changes…
Gary was one of a kind. Saw them live without him. A great show but missing GR.
You should react to, Golden County by REO Speedwagon, live video. It is their best live video, performed on Halloween.
I love awkward married moments.
My guess is you both are wearing loin cloths 😳🤣👍✌🤘♥️
Love Gary Richrath. Kevin Cronin is cool to
The 80’s
Great video to bad there are so old and not having that great guitar player makes a huge difference!
i just wanna play with your hair suzy Q LOL
I have seen them numerous times. I saw them just last summer again with Styx. It is always a great show. Kevin still has a good voice. He was finally losing some power in the last song of the show, but I can't fault him for that. At his age, he is still better than 80% of the other singers actively touring.
