I just attended my 40th REO show this past July at the NY State Fair. Free concert! I saw them first in 1973; their first venture outside their home turf. Rochester, NY. They opened for Canned Heat, and thus began a love affair between rock & roll fans in Rochester and REO Speedwagon. Over the years I have caught them in many a venue in many a city. I love Rock & Roll (speaking of which, I once saw Joan Jett and the Blackhearts open for REO), and my heart will always belong to REO Speedwagon.

Grand Funk was on their "Mark , Don and Mel" tour. After that REO changed direction. They went from killer to phenomenal!! I think I saw them at Louisville Gardens.: RIP Gary!!

Funny Story! Early 90’s went to a festival in Iowa called steamboat days. Off the Mississippi River and Illinois border. Thur - Saturday event. Friday night was REO. Stormy night. They came on at 8! First song was riding the storm out. Soon as they finished, pouring rain started. It rained for weeks solid. And that was the beginning of the great 90’s floods in Midwest America. 😉✌🏾

Gary Richrath was no doubt a top notch guitar player, but the thing that set him apart was nobody sounded like him. Totally unique style, and the sound and the way he attacked the song was just mind blowing, studio or live.
REO was a Midwest band, I grew up not far from where they started out. Those were the 'crusin' the strip' days and REO was meat and potatoes for that scene. When their album Hi Fidelity hit in '81, it just blew the roof off everything. Everybody had it, everyone was playing it. What awesome times.
Check out Golden Country by them. One of my very favorites.

Gary Richrath was ALWAYS on a much higher level than most Rock guitarist's, he's top ten FOR sure! Ugh! He was soooo good! :)

Now picture a greatful audience rockin out together as one. That's how it was back then. Nobody showed up to see an image.....they showed up to see Profesional musicians and vocalists. They showed up to see the band...... period.
