    I’ve used this pack for both school, hiking and travel, it’s one of the better packs I’ve ever used for this size and very functional for all of these activities

    I've had my Trail 25 for 3-4 years and use it daily. Your review is spot on. Super versatile due to the big open pocket. Fits my laptop, groceries, hiking gear, clothing, or whatever I need. I love the duel stretchy water bottle pockets and quick access pocket for keys, sunglasses, etc. After years of daily wear and tare, I started having zipper issues so I've been looking to see what else is out there, but pretty sure I'll be coming back to this pack again.

      Thanks for the encouragement! I had this pack back in 2019 but after hiking with some buddies I sold it and bought an Osprey Tallon 22. I liked the Talon but came back to this pack a couple of months ago. I like this one WAY BETTER. I think the price point, function, and amenities are what make it a stand out pack!

    I couldn't decide If I should get a mens or womans. The backpack looks great and I will go for the men's so my husband can also use it. Thank you for all the great descriptions. I definitely needed it. So excited to get it. And the cover is a great addition, Thanks so much!

    Thank you for the review. I was looking for a back pack for when I do an Alaskan Cruise and some short hikes. Good size, large enough for multiple jackets and a camera and a couple of lenses. A big plus is the protective rain cover. You never know what type of weather you are going to get.

    • @NealBenson
      @NealBenson  Год назад +1

      You’re welcome! That would be perfect for this pack. I love the included rain cover. We did Alaska two summers ago and I wish I had this pack.

    No judgement here! I make my kids carry their own stuff but I buy them cheap hydration packs so they get the experience. I still carry lots of snacks and end up with sweatshirts or whatever. Great review, too! Just picked one up for huge day hike coming up.

    • @NealBenson
      @NealBenson  Год назад

      None taken. I find that I'm always the one carrying the sweatshirts and I've come to see it as a way to carry more so I can have stronger legs for my next backpacking trip. I think all my kids have a backpack and I'm cool with carrying some of their load. When we go backpacking they carry their own stuff (mostly)

      I’ve been considering this pack myself. I currently have a REI Flash 22. It’s nice for the price but I think it’s a little small for me. I bought it online and didn’t get to try it beforehand. The straps dig into my chest and makes my shoulders hurt when it’s full. It’s impossible for me to reach water bottles from either side without having to remove the bag. Back pad is very hot during warm weather so lots of back sweating. I also don’t like how my trekking poles flop around so much on one side.
      I’ve been also considering the Osprey Talon 22 or Strato 24. However they are double the price of the Trail 25 pack.

    • @NealBenson
      @NealBenson  Год назад

      @@ek8652 I was looking at the Flash 22 and went with this for the better straps, back support, and trekking pole holders! If you can wait, it might be on sale again around Labor Day.

    Appreciate the pack overview. On the fence between this and a significantly more expensive Osprey pack but this less expensive pack might fit the bill for most day adventures with a camera and one extra lens.

    • @NealBenson

      I had the Osprey Talon 22 and sold it. I liked the Osprey pack but went back to this pack. The Talon has a better hip belt for sure.

    How does the back and shoulder straps hold up in hot weather? For example, when you’re sweating, do you find the back and shoulders to be damp when you take it off, or does the mesh do a good job of drying it quickly? Also, any rubbing with the shoulder straps when it’s against your skin? Thanks for the review!

    • @NealBenson
      @NealBenson  Год назад

      Great question. I used this pack in 2019 to hike Half Dome. It was a warm day and the pack was great! No rubbing on on my shoulders.

    I'm 50/50 carrying crap, but I mostly want to be prepared. How do you think this compares to the 40? I'm torn between the two...

    • @NealBenson
      @NealBenson  Год назад +2

      Great question! I think if you can take a hard look at what you’re carrying and why then you can get this pack. Often in hiking we “carry our fears.” Meaning we pack items and never use them. If you can reduce what you’re taking this is a great pack!

    I’ve always liked REI packs but hate that they stick with the thin webbing hip belt for smaller packs. If they made the tarn 18 in adults sizes, it might be the ultimate pack

    • @NealBenson
      @NealBenson  11 месяцев назад +1

      That is a great idea for improvement! I’d love to see a better hip belt on here.

    If your kids are old enough to walk on the trail they should be carrying their own stuff gradually increasing weight until your carrying nothing of theirs. Im actually looking at this pack because i was so impressed with the tarn 18 i got for my 6 year old from rei and this seems to be the closest adult pack to that one.

    • @NealBenson

      My son has the Tarn 18 and Tarn 40 for when we go backpacking. REI makes great packs!
