I grew up in New England where it was usually on the cooler side of the weather. All my life my nose would clog when the temps got below 72 degrees. And in NE there wasnt much seasonal temps above 72. So i was always a mouth breather.. Always had sore throats.. I lived with it till I was 30. I moved to Florida and it all went away. Because it's usually above 72 in Florida most of the time, I never have this issue any more. But when it does drop below 72 my nose does clog up still. Now that I'm in the warmer temps, I rarely have this issue. Glad to live in a state where the temps are usually above 72.

If you suffer from migraine, this can cause a congested nose.
I do tend to get a congested nose because an ENT surgeon told me my nasal passages are narrow. I have found the best remedy is 1/2 tsp salt and 1/2 tsp sodium bicarbonate mixed into 1/2 pt warm filtered water, stored in a bottle and poured into a nasal spray bottle for use as required. This softens the mucus, enabling you to blow your nose effectively, and it clears the nose wonderfully. I use this two or three times a day and it works a treat. It’s also important to drink plenty of water to prevent getting dehydrated, which is good advice for general health anyway.

I bought a couple of cheap nasal spray bottles from Ebay and keep one in the bedroom and one in my handbag. In respect of Sleep Apnoea, where Nasal Congestion can seriously impact the efficacy of CPAP Therapy, it may be worth mentioning that Nasal Decongestants often have a potential Arrhythmia side effect mentioned in the Patient Leaflet. That can be an unexpected complication, especially for anyone juggling a few issues to keep Cardiac Stress down that is, in itself, caused by night time suffocation issues if the CPAP and Nasal Congestion issues are not kept in balance. Throw in a new drug to clear the nose, which does often work very well initially, may lead to unexpected adverse Cardiac side effects if used for more than a couple of days. Same goes for Pain Killers, very few do not list Arrhythmia as a possible side effect.

@@animal1nstinct394 Before bed my strategy is to thoroughly clean and wash face, teeth, tongue and mouth, including a gargle with a good mouth wash. I also wash our humidifier tanks, pipes, masks and elbow joint every day, so there is no scope for bugs in the kit. I also clean our CPAP machines every 4 weeks with Isopropanol 99.9% (all visible areas), and change the inlet Filter for a hypoallergenic one, again to keep out any scope for bugs to lurk. Then just before bed, I squirt some saline nasal spray up my nose, wait a minute or so, and then have a good blow so I start off the night with airways clear. The saline nasal sprays are good, because most have no chemicals or drugs, so there is no cardiac effect. I have severe osteoarthritis, but try not to take pain killers if I can avoid them, due to the cardiac effect. I hope that helps.

When using nasal sprays, it's a good idea to try spray saline first. If after 1/2 hour the nasal passage is still clogged, only then should you use nasal spray. Often, the nasal cavity is clogged due to sinus dryness and a saline spray can actually be more effective than a nasal spray.

I must stop using it the moment I don’t need it otherwise it becomes addictive. Meaning you have to use it to keep your nose open. I had a congested nose too for about one and a half years. It's one of the most annoying things. First, it started in October. The room where I slept was colder than usual and my nose got congested somewhat. The congested nose started to come and go for part of the day, but only at one side of the nose. Then it became persistent after a few months and one side of the nose became congested continually. The other side of the nose got congested by the end of the year. The congestion became a problem. Especially when sleeping. Also, during the day when having the online meetings I sounded bad. I've tried all the available nose treatments from the pharmacy here in Canada. The doctor suggested some hormonal treatment as a spray that made me feel unwell.
And after a year and a few months, I've contracted a cvoid. The first night it started with a lot of sneezing. Then the nose area became very hot and inflamed. (seems like a big fight in the nose was going on). Even my eyes were hot. Very uncomfortable. But, within a day and a half, the heat in the nose stopped, and the nose opened up. Even though I was sick with C19. Eventually, I got over the C19.
Now, it's two years past and my nose is open still. Thank God!
Basically, C19 killed the congestion in my nose just in one day. Some cure one might say! But, guys protect yourself from the autoimmune, keep an eye on it, and treat it early if you happen to get it.
Wishing all to be in good health.

I've been living with a clogged nose for 3 years. I literally had a breakdown right now because i cant breathe properly and im extremely frustrated and tired of not being able to breath properly. I was recently diagnosed with asthma and sleep apnoea too and nasal congestion doesn't help me in the slightest. I have headaches and ear, and eye and head pressure from the congestion and i cant hear properly, my eyes are constantly sore and itchy and my throat is itchy and sore and im having a hard time swallowing. It's getting to the point where i want to give up.

Allergies and the deviated septum are my issue. When I was in my twenties i had sever clogging and got hooked on nose spray. I would go through a whole bottle of Afrin in a few days then. I couldn't breath without it. Quit cold turkey and it got better. Nowadays I use a few cool techniques I found on YT to help with the clogging which it always one side never two. She is a good actor, would have been more realistic if her nose was constantly running and her eyes red and streaming!!! 🖖 😁

When the membranes are swollen in your nose you can not breath at all through your nose. It can last for hours at a time. It is pure hell and nothing will open up your nose. I had inhalant allergies for over 20 years because of allergies and took 2 shots a day for 20 years before allergies were gone. I would have thought I was blessed to have constantly running nose and red eyes because with that I could still breath through my nose. When your nose is completely closed you can not get any air at all and have to breath your mouth. Both ways are bad as it is not normal to be either way when it comes to breathing. I feel for anyone who is suffering this way either way.

Try cutting out dairy for a month and see if it helps. Mine was shut for a year and that was it for me and I wish someone had told me to try it sooner.
