If you're budget constrained (or just cheap like me) after you scrape most of the wax off, corn starch (from the grocery store) and cheap plastic scouring pads from the dollar ($1.25 now) store works as a great substitute. Sprinkle a little corn starch over the board then scrub with the pads same as the pickle. A damp paper towel takes any leftover starch off. The Pickles work great - just an alternative. Great tip and great showing at Pipeline!
Thanks Lakey, I will try the hair dryer trick right now. I have just also watched your how to wax your board video. I will try that on my old board before my fresh new one. I’ve always struggled to get those small beads. This New Zealander 🇳🇿loves your work 🤙🏽
Thanks for the great vid Lakey & Tom..Your How to’s are super helpful..my boards will be waxed poetic from now on…So…sorry and I may be bias but just a word about the Pipe Semi’s..no way Tyler’s wave was an “8” more like 6.5 at best..No idea how you’d have done V Carissa in the final as the conditions were brutal but you deserved to be there. Just sayin..Anyway All the best from the North West🤙🏼
Don't think they had wax combs in my day. Yes, I'm old. We always used a hair dryer and a plastic spatula. Great info on waxing and removing! I don't surf anymore, but I'd like to get back into it, if my tired old bones would let me.
Thanks for making this!! You did great yesterday at Pipeline, it wasn't your fault, you still did great. How often should you remove the wax? Also, I talked to people at Channel islands on there website about buying one of your used boards and they did not know how much they would cost, do you have any idea how much they are?
every season so when the water starts to warm up remove your wax and put some wax on for the water tempature or when the water starts to cool down during the winter change wax accordingly
Thanks, I always appreciate your videos. My question for you is, what else can I use besides the pickle, I’ve already ordered mine, but if someone doesn’t have one, what else can be used??
congratulations for yesterday's performance in Pipeline l know you wanted to go further if the conditions had been good you would undoubtedly be higher now it's Sunset and l wish You the best luck because You already have the talent, two big hugs from Barcelona Lakey and Thomas 🌹🤙
i am with paulywoodnorth below. No way that was an 8! I gave it an 6.3-6.8. And i use to judge pro contest. For what its worth. Thx for not busting out the ole' hair dryer for the wax removal. Or sun to start the removal process. As we all know what both do to PU and EPS. Still like the ole' hair dryer in between satin clear coats as i mentioned over the holidays. That (painting video) inspired me to paint 6 Eps decks canary yellow. As again, we all know what the sun does over time (especially) to epoxy boards. They amber and turn yellow. Thought maybe Thomas would be held accountable for waxing and de-waxing your quiver. Though, he did shave his head! Shoots, if my wife surfed Pipe as good as you did, or even paddled out, i would be waxing her boards until she threw me out! Thx!

Love this! Things have changed so much haven’t they!
Lakey bom dia, parabéns pelo trabalho, porque os profissionais não usam deck frontal?
Obrigado pela atenção e boas ondas na vida!
A lot of the air guys do however I personally feel for turns you have a better feel of the board without the deck grip

Hi Lakey! Thanks for the great content and how to’s. How often do you remove wax from your boards?
Thanks Javier! I remove it every 4-6 weeks normally … or if I do a trip and the weather climate is different
Thank you, this helped so much. New sub
Can you keep on reusing the pickle?
Yep
Satisfaction guaranteed by just cleaning up the wax on your boards… a car film tool also works for me.
Good to know 👌
👍
My wax comb is my eleventh fingernail
Haha so good

Love it Kevin! The painting never gets old no matter your age.
Haha yes indeed. He did shave his head so I guess he can get out of waxing my boards 😂
Wax on Wax off..🙃
