Hyundai has 10-year 100k limited warranty. It means there is a limit on how many vehicles they'll honor the warranty with 😂 Just kidding hyundai fans and owners!
Thanks you for that video. I bought myself a Hyundai i30 Fastback N with DCT which is close to the Elantra N. I really like the car, the sounds it makes and how the driving feels. Just as I expected. I will testdrive a new FL5 this year and compare each other. For me the i30 has already won, because of the price. 17k € less than a CTR is a world. I paid 39.000 € for my N and the CTRs MSRP in Germany is 56.000 €. Crazy. It can't be that much better for 17k more.
I agree ! It's hard to justify paying all that extra money. Very happy with my Elantra N DCT ! Car has tons of character and is $10K less than the CTR here in Canada.
I know this might not be related, but I believe the Elantra N with the DCT (which I have) is an actual rocket. I’m not saying it’s quicker than some of the more high end cars out there, but dang is it quick. It surprises me too sometimes cause from a roll, the slight anti-lag (I’m quite sure the car has a the system as I can feel the boost actually does stay after shifting) helps rocket the car faster than you’d expect. It’s just from a dig that the FWD hinders it’s true performance
I think part of the quickness of the DCT is the transmission holding onto the lower gear while selecting the higher gear. No drop off as with a normal manual, just continuous flow of power.
I see a lot of pros the Elantra n has over the type r. First technology if anyone cares about it. Second best in class 4 banger exhaust. The type r doesn’t come close in it. Third is a big one and that’s cost. Getting a lot of bang for your buck and a lot cheaper. Good luck finding a type r at msrp paying a heavy markup for one. The one area that Honda shines against the competition is handling and driving experience. Honda has killed the fwd game for years. Type r a clear winner

It's up to you to shop around. I got mine for 53K after contacting over 100+ dealers in over 9+ states and different regions. Best deal I could find at the time, and I needed a car cause my old one was totalled.
Great review Joe. Both are amazing cars. I believe the N is easier to find at a reasonable price (MSRP?) compared to the Type R, right?. Hope these cars stay for longer.
I love you video and how you’re trying not be biased. You do miss a few points like how the manual elantra is lighter than the civic type R, 0-60 on the CTR is at 5 unless your very very skilled, you also forgot that the elantra is severely underrated performance from factory.
I disagree. They both have cheap plastic inside. Both have just enough extra stuff to keep it looking better than basic. I feel the seats are gonna hold up way better than the type r and heated seats is a big plus. Also love how they did the black handles and speakers inside, the dash screens Make such i big difference other than having a floating screen. Plus sunroof ❤️
To be honest, it’s kind of an unfair comparison. The Accord is all new, and the Camry is still the same since 2018. When the 2024 Camry comes out, that will be a better comparison.
Great video Joe. I like how you do these comparison reviews. I remember when you compared the Edge and Explorer STs. That was cool. Keep it up Joe Raiti. You da man 💯 How's Big Bertha by the way Joe? Haven't heard about her lately
When comparing value to product and price, I would have to go with the DCT Elantra. The N just has a better overall value when it comes to PRICE and what you get with it. I like the interior of the type R but it’s just not their for exterior wise.
Do your due diligence and shop around beyond just your local dealers. I had to contact over 100+ dealers with Type-R allocations, in over 9+ states, and different regions to find my Type-R. Of all the dealers 2 got back to me with the lowest offers of "only" 10K over msrp. I took those 2 offers to a third local dealer (who I previousl got my 2020 Si Coupe from) that initially told me first 15K over, then 12K over, and negotiated them down to around 8K over. Ended up paying ~53K, and they threw in some free accessories and their 7 year Diamond Coat ceramic coating package. But I was ok with up to 10K over, that was my cap, and I wouldn't go higher. Main thing is shop around, and know the cap your willing to go to. Funny part is the day I was planning on visiting the dealer at 5pm, I get a call around 11am from my sales guy and he tells me another sales guy has a customer on the way that's ready to buy their Type-R, but he's in Philly over 2hr drive away, so If I got there in time I could snag it. Which is what I did. We were finalizing the paperwork, and they had to call the guy to tell him the car sold, when he was 15min away. I could hear him yelling at the sales manager on the phone from 10 feet away. I was cracking up...🤣
I got my Elantra N for MSRP, and sadly that won’t be the case for the type R. So really we’re talking a 15-20 difference in price. Save your money and get the N
The N will never make 640+hp without blowing up tho which is why people prefer the build quality of the Honda - plus the superior suspension design and performance. Value matters and the Hyundai is just cheap - especially the drivetrain
The huge price differential would clearly be the deciding factor for most folks. Considering how close they are in all the important specs, there's no reason whatsoever to pay an extra $12K for the Honda.
@@RaitisRides Some people will argue anything but not all people can afford the $12k more and that ain't going to happen anyway with the Honda. Dealers are even marking up the SI to a higher price than the N. And really the SI is the car that should be compared to the N, not the type R. Entirely different price segment with the R.
Can someone tell me about the reliability of the Elantra N, because I always hear people say "Dont buy Hyundais because they will break down in the first 10k miles" or something like that, But I really like this car and I'm looking into getting one. I just want a little more information, it would be appreciated.
Joe bringing the content that people actually want to see - great comparison. I love the Type R, but the markup (at least in Canada) is absolutely insane. I can walk into a Hyundai dealership and get an Elantra N for MSRP right now.... the Type R would run me more than $65K CAD. At that price point, I would just get the Genesis G70 or TLX Type S. Value for dollar, the Elantra N is hard to beat.... too bad it's so fugly looking. Hyundai should just make a Sonata Type R and get rid of the catfish headlights. Now that car would be a winner.
Type-R crushes the N in my op, but the fact that a Hyundai is even being talked about is progress to me. Hats off to them for going for it 👏🏻 Never even knew the N existed, love the vids, keep ‘em coming 🎉
In Puerto Rico, Elantra N is $44,995, the Type R $65.995, $21k more than the Elantra. I Buy the Elantra N manual, great Performance, technology, exaust sound 🔥🔥 and $21k less.
The type r has smaller brake rotors at 350mm vs the elantra N at 14.2 inches (360 mm). Not that it really matters that much, both are massive and the braking will be determined by the tires, as both brakes are more than strong enough to lock the wheels.
Braking is determined by the brakes, if the wheels are locked you are out of control. The Brembo calipers and two part discs on the CTR are far superior.
If would be same price I would by Type R for heritage besides that reason would be Elentra N , price , pkg , engine , technology, exhaust noise, all around car and price .
Loved this review Joe! I’m sure someone else has said it already, but I’ll reiterate the DCT version of the Elantra N is actually the better car, but I understand the apples to apples comparison between the manuals. The DCT is a quicker and more capable car though. And just a fun fact, the pops aren’t because of extra fuel being dumped on heavy throttle, it’s actually the anti-lag feature that keeps boost through the gears. So when paired with the DCT it feels very, very quick. Such a fun car! But back to the comparison of the CTR to the EN, great job taking a neutral approach despite being a CTR owner. They’re both fantastic cars for sure, but with very different personalities.
This is the truth. The DCT is so good in every situation that I don't feel I'm losing anything by going this route over the manual; in fact I'm gaining performance and comfort.
How many colors have you seen on the N in person? Just wondering how they look up close and live. I have only seen the light blue color. It is not for me.
@@t.k.morris I saw 3 colors at the dealerships, white, blue and black. Black was the only color I considered because of the awkward grill. Blends right in without drawing attention to it.
Both cars have pros and cons. Honda is shutting out buyers by not offering an automatic and no doubt would make it a quicker car. Plus, they use a dreadful CVT like in the regular Civic. The DCT and manual options offered in the N gives an advantage. As far as pricing…Honda dealers are charging a big premium for the Type R. Can’t see spending a 5-15k MSRP premium. Elantra is priced very good in this class…10k less than the Type R. With the markup it could be up to 20k. That’s a lot of money for insurance, gas, and tires.
Connecting to the road through the car is my absolute #1 "Raison D'acheter", or reason to buy. So my first pick would be the type R of these two. But my heart still loves the Miata.❤️

have actually been news reports on the local news about kia's and hyundai's being stolen because of some challenge on social media,or something like that
Even though I like the Type R a little better simply for the cleaner look, it's going for double the price of the N. I don't believe it's double the car personally.
The Elantra N has a wait time of 6 month. The Type R has a wait time of a full year. That would be the biggest difference. Honda only gets 1 to 2 cars per year of the Type R veriant per dealership. And that doesn't mean you'll get the color you want either. And the honda is also 11k more expensive.
Gonna have to zonk you...the Hyundai Elantra N rotors are bigger (front and rear) than the FL5. Hyundai also could have matched the hp and tq of the FL5 by matching the boost levels, but they have a much longer warranty so they had to turn it down a bit.
@@4Kandlez It is not a gimmick though and for someone like me who does not race or abuse my cars, I want something I can depend on for ten years of ownership. That said, doesn't mean I believe the Type R would not last that long, but if Honda cut back on it's output to help with longevity, that is what I personally would rather have.
For the money, I'd take the Elantra N. The type R doesn't seem $12k better than the Elantra N. Plus you're gonna need a lot of luck to even get the type R at msrp. I feel like it'd be much easier to get the Elantra N at msrp.

Coming from an S2000 back in the day, I'm going with the bigger money and the heritage and Honda. Outstanding review Team Raiti, I love this head to head format!!!
I had to crank my volume to hear the stock CTR exhaust noise. CTR is a better car, better performing, better built, etc. but the difference in price (even considering without markup, which is a big conditional) is too much to justify it for me over the Elantra N. Maybe if it were like a 5k delta, I could justify the CTR but 10-11k is a bit too much to stomach on a 30-40k car.
I can't believe how the type 5 is not loud at all with those 3 exhaust tips. It's literally hummy down the road. That will definitely be the first mode people will do.
DCT option is a win for the Elantra for sure. The spoiler on the Civic makes the car look like a shopping cart. And it's not intergraded very well. It's just bolted on. But the overall look of the Civic is better then the Elantra. No ones had any complaints on the track with the Elantra's brakes. In fact they say it's one of the best stock braking systems for the track. The Type R will also cost you at least 10K more to buy even if you could find one.
One of the mandates of the upcoming Integra Type S is that Acura is supposed to be branding the Type S as a more 'emotional road-going' experience than the CTR. What are your thoughts on how Acura will tune the ITS compared with Honda and the CTR?
It'll be a slower, softer, more luxurious version of the Type-R. Basically for people that want a decently quick and comfortable car for the streets, and not a razor sharp scalpel for track days.
given how people have complained how stiff the FL5 is and how relatively spartan it is for the price, the Type S should fix that. Also it will be made in the US so availability should be better
@@BigBear-- its not helping with logistics and availability lol. They took forever to get to the east coast of the US. And Japanese built, while better than British by far, doesn't always mean the best quality. My japan built honda had a recall for rust lol

Yup save 12k and get 90% of the performance. Spend a portion of that on mild mods and now it outperforms the Type R.

Just kidding hyundai fans and owners!
I do like the interesting design on the wheels 🛞 on the Elantra N.
I love how the Elantra N has the original hand brake and not the electric one
So does the GRC
I chose the N from your original review and love it. I can definitely say "youtube made me buy it" lol. But that type r looks pretty sick! Congrats
Yep his reviews definitely pushed me towards getting the EN. I love it.
Bro i have a ceramic white EN DCT and it's a roll race monster, surprises alot of people even me still to this day. Crazy bargain this car is.
The DCT is great.

I am so glad that you are digging the N Alfredo.
Great review Joe. Both are amazing cars. I believe the N is easier to find at a reasonable price (MSRP?) compared to the Type R, right?. Hope these cars stay for longer.
You are so very right!
I love you video and how you’re trying not be biased. You do miss a few points like how the manual elantra is lighter than the civic type R, 0-60 on the CTR is at 5 unless your very very skilled, you also forgot that the elantra is severely underrated performance from factory.
Thanks for that great intell.
Both great vehicles. The type R is more polished, but the Elantra is fantastic and a great deal.
Prefer the Elantra. Better daily. More comfortable. Especially the Aussie version we get
Very good points!
Hey Raiti's Rides Can You Make A 2023 Honda Accord vs. 2023 Toyota Camry: Comparison
Car confession just uploaded a video comparison. But would love Joe's input on these two legendary car brands.
To be honest, it’s kind of an unfair comparison. The Accord is all new, and the Camry is still the same since 2018. When the 2024 Camry comes out, that will be a better comparison.
@@SIIKAP1 As much as I like Toyota, they are extremely slow to change anything.
@@brokeboy87 That’s true. I’m ready for the new design
Both amazing, but I'd go Elantra N all day.
The fact that you can get the hyundai for under msrp while type R is going for 50k and up makes it almost a 15-20k price difference...
Great video Joe. I like how you do these comparison reviews. I remember when you compared the Edge and Explorer STs. That was cool. Keep it up Joe Raiti. You da man 💯 How's Big Bertha by the way Joe? Haven't heard about her lately
I clicked on this so fast, because I love the Elantra N lol. Great video again Raitis fam and team 💯💯 thank you!
When comparing value to product and price, I would have to go with the DCT Elantra. The N just has a better overall value when it comes to PRICE and what you get with it. I like the interior of the type R but it’s just not their for exterior wise.
I'd get the Type R if I could find one at or around MSRP.
I think one crashed already and was scrapped for MSRP.
Good luck with that
Do your due diligence and shop around beyond just your local dealers.
I was cracking up...🤣
In these times it's not happening. You won't even get one for a $3k markup.
The R will depreciate far less then the crappy Hyundai
@@TheFK8Lifelol why would you even go for 600 hp in a fwd vehicle? It can’t even put that much power to use and it will be less driveable

If only Honda could remember what the civic was all about. Affordability.
Thats why the Elantra wins. 10k over MSRP is a joke.
thanks Joe! you heard me, more of this comparison please!
You got it my friend!
The CTR might do 0-60 in 4.7 if it was going downhill in a hurricane, otherwise no.
The huge price differential would clearly be the deciding factor for most folks. Considering how close they are in all the important specs, there's no reason whatsoever to pay an extra $12K for the Honda.
I think some people would argue that.
Now this is 🔥! Type-R for me all day everyday! Keep it coming brother Joe!
I'm obsessed with the FL5, I think it has an almost Super Car look, the worlds 1st FWD Super Car. Looking to buy 1 soon
Im going Hyundai Elantra N. Im just hoping they make the horsepower rise up to 315 like the Type R or at least 300 flat.
Type-R crushes the N in my op, but the fact that a Hyundai is even being talked about is progress to me. Hats off to them for going for it 👏🏻
Never even knew the N existed, love the vids, keep ‘em coming 🎉

@@rosamerlujan5510 that’s probably why the N’s are selling for 20k markup
I will like to know where do you think the Toyota GR stands compared to the Elantra N and Type R?
Smokes it
Here in Australia CTR is at $72,600 no discount or wiggle room while EN starts from $55,876 - $58,000 and you can haggle and wiggle room on price.
Oh wow that is intense.
This is so very true!
EN Popcorn sound is magical.
You better believe it!
Nooooo Joe you forgot how many Twinkies can we fit? 😂 thank you again for letting us know. About these two cars. Very interesting.
Of course Eddie! Definitely more twinkie storage in the type R.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this one.
This is the truth. The DCT is so good in every situation that I don't feel I'm losing anything by going this route over the manual; in fact I'm gaining performance and comfort.
You certainly were smiling and laughing more on throttle in the N. I have a black N - cheap thrills for sure.
Facts, I traded my n-line for an N
How many colors have you seen on the N in person? Just wondering how they look up close and live. I have only seen the light blue color. It is not for me.
@@t.k.morris I’ve seen, black, blue, white, and the light blue in person

Here in Southern Ontario most Hondas mainly the civic and accord are at the top of the list for theft hahaha I wouldn't want that worrying about it

Is that by total number or by %? Civic & Accords are the most common cars. Other cars total numbers are less, if there's less to begin with
have actually been news reports on the local news about kia's and hyundai's being stolen because of some challenge on social media,or something like that
Even though I like the Type R a little better simply for the cleaner look, it's going for double the price of the N. I don't believe it's double the car personally.
More like $20-30k gap with the markups these days 😅
This is such a good point!
In Canada, the elantra is 40,000, while the type R is 52,000. Our dollar and interest rates drive up price and payments.
Used vehicle is going for $80000 which is ridiculous 😊
The Elantra N has a wait time of 6 month. The Type R has a wait time of a full year. That would be the biggest difference. Honda only gets 1 to 2 cars per year of the Type R veriant per dealership. And that doesn't mean you'll get the color you want either. And the honda is also 11k more expensive.
I was at the Milwaukee Auto Show and I will say most of the Subaru, Honda, and Toyota seats actually feel nicer to sit in than the luxury brand seats.
I'm partial to your Honda, Joe.
I love and appreciate the variety of content you provide.
Gonna have to zonk you...the Hyundai Elantra N rotors are bigger (front and rear) than the FL5. Hyundai also could have matched the hp and tq of the FL5 by matching the boost levels, but they have a much longer warranty so they had to turn it down a bit.
That just confirms that the longer warranty is just a marketing gimmick, and their vehicles are built down to a price to undercut the competition
Can you do Si vs N-line next? ❤
Or the Elantra 'N' vs the SI..... they are closer in price, especially with dealer mark-ups on them as well as the R.
For the money, I'd take the Elantra N. The type R doesn't seem $12k better than the Elantra N. Plus you're gonna need a lot of luck to even get the type R at msrp. I feel like it'd be much easier to get the Elantra N at msrp.

Full disclosure, I have been up close to see the Team Raiti Type R and it has great curb presence. Also, been up close to a couple of Elantra Ns. I just feel like in the looks department, the Type R is so much some people's speed than others, as is the N. they need to change that exhaust sound on the R for real
Awesome video, I'm looking forward for your Type R and your Type RA of your thought Joe :)
I would go for the Type R, but you have to give it to Hyundai for bringing such fierce competition to Honda in a segment Honda had decades to perfect.
This is so very true!
What makes you think the Honda Civic Type R is a better car ? When Hyundai has won rally races so many times with this Elantra N !!!!
Even for the same price I would still choose the Elantra N for what it offers
That is great! I appreciate you sharing that.

Slightly more power or different gearing to make it slightly faster in a straight line, softer adaptive suspension, obviously nicer interior.
