    This was essentially a master class in Catholic Theology. We just watched, free of advertising, a class that only a graduate student at Oxford or Cambridge might have witnessed. Bishop Barron is our Professor in a lifelong course in spiritual awakening. There are many incredible teachers out there, but how many can you experience daily for Free?! Plus, this education is essential to not only our present, but our eternal well-being. Knowledge is power and power is the force that makes things happen. I love the image of God creating a perfect image of Himself to go out to the limits of humanity in order to gather it all back to Himself. Christ is the perfect God and the perfect Gatherer, the perfect Sacrifice and the perfect Redeemer. It's all perfect in God. How could we want anything more?

    I just happened to catch this as it was airing, and with that special energy I took this sermon very seriously and took pages of notes as Bishop Barron preached, and came back to fill in the parts I missed. While I recognize a true Christian is spiritually yoked to Christ and requires a rebirth, I also love to learn, so thank you for providing so many wonderful attainable resources that are so intelligent and thoughtful. God bless you Bishop Barron and your great team!

      Friends, in today’s Gospel, Jesus promises to send the Holy Spirit to guide the Church through time. “I have much more to tell you, but you cannot bear it now. But when he comes, the Spirit of truth, he will guide you to all truth.”
      The above quote was taken from Bishop Barron's Scripture quote for today. I bring this up because last week at the 5:30 pm Mass, in a Catholic Church in South El Monte, California, I was disturbed by the priest's homily by which he kept referring the the Holy Spirit as "she." Every time he mentioned the Holy Spirit it was as "she." I had never heard the Holy Spirit referred to as a "she" so I know it was WRONG especially since our Lord and Savior himself refers to the Holy Spirit as "he" and rightly and gloriously so. I hope the other Mass goers caught this this grave error and didn't snooze through it.

      I believe that the more we lovingly share our differences the greater the possibility that the Trinity is recognized. The Trinity shows up in our dialogue. This is our experiential knowledge of the Trinity working through us, “through the logos” or “dialogue” is enhanced through Perspectival knowledge leading to us participating in the logos through liturgy and the every day life of living agape. We approach, perhaps, a deeper knowledge of God through our shared experience of God that we then put into practice, I think. DD

    I always love your sermons but this one tops it all. It was a gentle hike 'around' the great mystery. However, I don't know that it helps any more than the simple understanding of how one human can have many "roles" like wife, mother, homemaker, artist (or doctor or other public identity), each understood as a distinct identity. Take this to a 'higher power' and we get creator, redeemer, sustainer. The really great part to the mystery of the trinity is Pentecost and how the love between the father and son gets 'breathed on' us! I really do love Bishop Sheen's description.

    Many thoughts were flowing into my mind as this homily progressed. For some reason I cannot explain, the immaculate conception of Mary made so much sense. She suddenly appeared to me as the perfect human image reflecting all at once the « in », the « from » and the « for » God so eminently that the words from her heart upon Elizabeth’s greeting inspired by God’s own Spirit were: « My spirit rejoices in God » . Is this not the most perfect trinitarian reflex from a human being who bathes in God’s will, speaks from Him and lives totally for Him? I am just blown away by this woman.

    Chew on? This is an inexhaustible feast that surely came from the Holy Trinity finding the right channel for communication. The very use of you, Bishop Barron, is a blessing to you and to all who hear you. My head is spinning between the joy of this communication and the absorbing of it. And it illuminates the not entirely satisfying - to my mind - concluding passage of Dante's Paradiso, "Ne la profonda e chiara sussistenza" to "da un fulgore in che sua voglia venne". Long have I sought to know Thee, O most Holy Trinity, is the first line of what may become a verse, perhaps...
    Laurence Binyon's translation came close, using - I now know - Aquinas and Augustine, with possible acquaintance with Henry Constable's poem, " Great God, within whose simple essence". But neither gave me as clear an understanding as you, good Bishop, have done.

    It wasa perfect and beautiful explanation of the Trinity. Bishop Barron's Homily is the best explanation of the Trinity I have ever heard and thought provoking. It makes perfect sense. With each Homily he brings to us , I find he really grasps the unique and perfection of Jesus's word. Truly loved this Homily. Thank you Bishop Barron and God bless you.

    I have been seeking an understanding of the Trinity for weeks. I even got a Trinity knot pendant to have an image to reflect upon. While I listened to the Bishop, I felt such a stillness in my heart. Not tears, not quite, but a deep movement of my spirit. I still can’t fully grasp the mystery but it is closer.

    I have struggled to wrap my mind around the trinity all my life. This is the best example I have ever heard to explain how the three persons in God can exist with distinction and yet, be one. Thank you Bishop. Excellent!

    • @user-fc1ld9ts8u
      @user-fc1ld9ts8u Год назад

      But are the three persons distinct?
      Bishop Barron seems to be saying they are not. They are one.

    • @crazyedswonderfulworldofso9370
      @crazyedswonderfulworldofso9370 Год назад

      @@user-fc1ld9ts8u I don't think so, what he is saying is:
      Father: I think according to Bishop Barron, the Father is the “mind”, right? The “mens”, the mind, As Bishop Barron puts it, “there's a “mens,” right? There's a mind. The One who knows.” which is capable of making an image in the most perfect and the most interior way possible.
      Son: But the Father, is “able to make a perfect image of Himself”, The Son - The Word. Bishop Barron says, “The fundamental knowing of God gives rise to, from all eternity, an interior word” who is the Son.
      Holy Spirit: Bishop Barron says, “From all eternity the Father, utterly perfect, utterly sublime, gives rise to a pure image of himself. Not just a reflection, not just a two-dimensional reproduction, not just another like a child, but a perfect image. Therefore the Son is also supremely, sublimely perfect in every way. What happens when the Father and the Son look at each other from all eternity? They necessarily fall in love.” They look at each other and they breathe forth a kind of “sigh of love” who is the Holy Spirit.
      Each is very different but all contained in God. The Father is the “mind’. The Son is the “Word”. And the Holy Spirit is the “breath”.

    Originally listened to this fine sermon back in May 2021, whereupon its wonderful news was indelibly fixed on our wee brains.
    Based on this it seems safe to assume that, unlike us sad exiled mortals, the glorious nature of the Trinity is unchanged JMJ

    G.M. Hopkins' As Kingfishers Catch Fire is a lovely evocation of this! And brings in man, at our best, most just, most like Christ, being the image of God's image, God's Word, to delight The Father.

    Thank you, bishop, for this sermon. I don't understand the Trinity after listening to you, but I can get an impression of the meaning. Your explanation of thing's images was very helpful. I am reminded of chapter 52 of Fioretti, about the franciscan brother John of Alvernia whom "the Holy Spirit filled his heart with such love to Christ, who had humbled himself so as to take upon him our humanity, that it seemed truly as if his soul were a burning furnace".
    "One night especially he was so rapt in God, that he saw in him all things created, both celestial and terrestrial, with all their perfections and their various orders and degrees; and he knew most clearly how every thing created presents itself to its Creator, and how God is above, and within, and around all things created. He was made acquainted likewise with one God in three persons and three persons in one God, and the infinite love which made the Son of God to become man out of obedience to the Father. He was likewise informed in this vision how there is no other way by which the soul can go to God, and have life eternal, but through Christ, the blessed one, who is the way, the truth, and the life of the soul."
    These things which I can't understand now, I know that I once will understand. The Trinity and similar mysteries of the Christian faith are not irrational, but I would say they're superrational, by which I mean that they transcend our ability to reason. I don't know if you agree, bishop.
